I have had terrible experiences with hairdressers. The last cut I got was maybe 6 years ago, and I was dissapoint. So much so that I kept growing my hair and trimming it at home.
Still, I’ve been collecting weird hair colours and hair ideas for years, and I wanted a big change. When I told her my idea, the girl who coloured my hair told me straight away to go to a barber, a friendly one who wouldn’t mind serving a woman. A barber in the village seemed a shoe-​in. I was referred to Tanya, who specializes in long hair. She insisted on meeting me beforehand to check-​out what she would be working with, and booked an appointment 2 days later.
The place is teeny-​tiny, but super friendly, they have a nice «bar» for you to chill at when waiting, and pump some electro jams worthy of Unity II. Tanya was a good conversationalist and seemed actually excited to do my cut. Bonus points! As a straight girl in a village barbershop, I was surprised by the warm welcome. No one batted an eyelash at me getting a «dude» cut, I was well-​served, at a fair price, would love to be back!

I was in Montréal today for a business trip. Asked a waiter at dinner if there was somewhere near by for a haircut. He. Said Mohawk around the corner. I walk in at 545 and ask if there was any chance of getting a haircut. Btw I am from Dallas TX and speak no French… None. The staff was nice, asked if I would mind coming back at 630. I said no problem. At 630 I was in a chair, the gentleman started with French, I apologized, he switched to English, gave me one of the best haircuts I’ve ever gotten. I have no idea why you would not go to Mohawk. Thank you guys! If I’m back I’ll see you!

I have been coming to get a haircut from Danyel at Mohawk for the past three years, and I could not feel more welcomed. I also receive an always perfect haircut, performed efficiently but without rush. I am from the US and was surprised by the negative, one star review from another American. I cannot, of course, either validate or dismiss his experience as I wasn’t there. But that has not been my experience with Mohawk at all. From my first time there, I was made to feel welcomed and appreciated by Danyel and by the owner, Jean-​Marc — in English. I am now married to a Québécois man and I am putting quite an effort into learning French. Danyel has shown remarkable patience and receptiveness to my attempt to learn the language as I struggle to practice French with him. This is a friendly, neighborhood business, and the barbers here cut hair with care and precision. And they are quite nice looking too. What’s there not to like?

I went to this place while I was visiting from Toronto and really enjoyed the haircut and beard trim. Francis was friendly even though he had trouble with English and we had trouble speaking French to him. I got a great cut and the ambiance was very cool with the great dance hits laying in the background. Well worth the higher cost and I’m always happy to support a local business.

My barber did I really good job. Even if their name is Mohawk, they do any cut you want. If you live near, I would recommend going because all the other salons are 35 $ and this one is 21…

This is my first visit and I have been waiting for 3 months to have a decent haircut as I relocated to Montréal!
I can say I am highly satisfied with the hairstyle, barber, cleanliness and ambiance!
A definitely great choice and as I speak only English I didn’t have any problem with the guys as they all speak English!

The suspiciously bitter reviews that I just found here have more to do with a complete misunderstanding of what bilingual service is in a strongly bilingual city, than with the actual experience that you get at Mohawk. I was the first reviewer of the place and I still stand by my words. All staffers do speak flawless English and French, as do most of the customers I have met on my visits there. That’s how it works in Montréal. And it works beautifully at Mohawk.

… and i totally DISAGREE with the review stating they are rude to English speakers! I speak only English and I have been going to this place for more than year now (once a month) and i never once felt uncomfortable or discriminated ever.
