Just had a shave and a haircut. All-in, including tip $ 35. A fair price for a great job. Giovanni took my unruly mess and while I can’t say that he produced a Michelangelo… he did succeed in making me presentable. I plan to make this my monthly treat and I strongly recommend it to anyone who wants a great cut at a fair price and spend the extra $ 10 buck for the shave. Ol-fashioned straight razor done by a Master. You won’t be sorry.

A friendly atmosphere and pleasant conversation(even for an anglophone like myself), a great haircut and a great wash(basically a scalp massage and wash in one). I will certainly be a regular.

For 35 years Giovanni has been demonstrating his craftsmanship at this location. It’s a no nonsense institution that hearkens back to a time when a man could sit down, shoot the breeze and get treated to some old school pampering. He’s a gentleman and a credit to his trade. I cannot recommend Montallegro Barbershop enough. You won’t be disappointed! Remember to tip the shampoo girl… she’s awesome!

This place is awesome, the brothers are super friendly. We chatted about all sorts of things from the weather to owning land on obscure Islands in Europe. Great job on the cut also, very professional and thorough. The hair wash and massage a nice bonus not to mention the expresso that arrived in from next door. Awesome, if you are looking for a barber in Montréal, right outside peel metro station this place is well worth the trip

Montallegro is the place where I first met Giovanni Bonadonna, only the second barber I ever had. He’s part psychologist, part bartender, part comedian, part barber, but 100% friend. It’s been close to 30 years and I may have gone from long-locked rocker to grey-haired dad, but the enjoyment of going to Montallegro and seeing Giovanni and his brother, Joe, has never changed. I’ve been to his daughter’s wedding, grandkid’s birthdays, etc. — we are family. I now bring my little guy, who loved it as much as I do. I will never have another barber(until he retires). Simply the best.

This old fashioned barbershop reminds me of the places that I used to love as a child, it’s a great find because there are very few left like it. As far as I can tell it’s only staffed by two male Italian barbers and a woman hairdresser, they take appointments and walk-ins. I got my hair cut by Giovanni, who spoke English and told me that he’s been cutting hair there for 33 years. He was fast, very skilled, and did a great job on my haircut. One of the things that I loved the most came at the end, when he outlined my haircut with a disposable razor and warm shaving cream, you don’t get this in hair salons! They also offer to wash your hair after the haircut so you can leave completely clean. At $ 18 plus tip for the men’s haircut, I consider it a good price for a great service. It took me a while to find a real old-school barbershop in Montréal and I’m sticking to it. So if you’re looking for real barbers who aren’t afraid to wave around a real blade and chat with Italian charisma, this is the place to go. P. S. If you need to wait your turn, I recommend going for an espresso at the Italian bar next door.
