One of the few coffee houses in Montréal that roast their coffee beans in house. However, it did not live up to the expectation that I had. We got a latte and a mocha. The latte was overwhelmed with milk and mocha’s chocolate sweetest completed overwhelmed the espresso. There are also aeropress and other fresh brewed coffee of you are into filtered coffee like me. Will be back for coffee with less milk but certainly not latte again. Also, they have a very poor bakery selection.

Évidemment le café est super. Il y a pas grand chose à manger par contre et c’est toujours plein alors vaut mieux prendre un take out

Really neat neighborhood café that also roasts its own beans. But the clock is ticking. The«À Louer» sign is up and in less than 6 months, Café Saint-Henri will longer be, at least not in its current location. This is one of those places with a deep local vibe, you feel it as you step in on a Sunday afternoon packed with people. I find the combination of tables and church benches really hip. I can imagine an awesome group coffee date on those benches. The staff is among the most soft-spoken and unpretentious of 3rd wave coffee shops. Saint-Henri is my go-to roaster these days to get my weekly pound of beans for home. The single origin beans change from time to time and there are always a few to choose from, never more than a week old. Also free drink with bean purchase. There is a choice of two espressos: the default Godshot roast or a really mellow Holy Cow. I haven’t really tried the food. You will be missed, Saint-Henri.

Location: Notre-Dame W. Street parking is available but metered. The closest subway is likely Lionel-Groulx [orange] then a 5 – 10 minute walk from there. The place: Small but you don’t really feel crowded unless(I assume) the place is packed. They’ve got a few tables and three pews. Yes, you read that right — church pews. Good if you decide to take a nap on a hot and humid day summer ;-D. The goods: I was a little iffy about these guys because the feedback really varies — some people love it while others hate it. On my end, I was pleasantly surprised — the macchiato I ordered was amazing — almost as good as my new favourite place, Code Black(don’t tell Vince at Olimpico!). Service: Meh. No warm and fuzzy feelings over here. The guy was ok but no smiles or small talk. Price point: $ 3.25 for the macchiato.

Montréal has several local roasters but few coffee shops with in-house roasting, which is what St. Henri micro-torrefacteur offers. They serve most extraction methods, though I can only comment on their espresso-based beverages. Their lattés are quite good, definitely on the creamier side with few high notes. Very round. They roast beans on-site, with two espresso varieties available(Godshot and Holy Cow, recommended for straight espresso and lattes respectively). Definitely a good place to buy beans, as most coffee you will find that is «locally-roasted» is roasted off-premise and distributed privately. Some reviewers have noted barista inconsistencies, but the lattés have been very consistent in my experience with several different baristas. Perhaps this is not the case for americanos, mochas, etc.

A little expensive for the lattes but the place is really cool and the coffee is good. I have to stop by everytime I’m nearby :) plus they share the space with a bakery shop and I can never resist getting something there too!

I was staying nearby and needed a morning cup of joe. I decided to forgo the starbucks and timmy hos and try something local. Bad choice. The entire menu is in French, like most other places in Montréal. That’s okay, I can read well enough to decide I want to try out a mocha, or café moka. The guy at the counter was actually really nice which was surprising because usually the second you open your mouth to speak English, it’s like a cloud of dirt surrounds you like Pigpen on the Peanuts show and the French speaking people can’t get away from you fast enough. Anyway, I’m digressing here. So he’s a nice dude, explains they don’t carry non-fat milk, only 1%. Okay, fine, I’ll deal. So I stand awkwardly by the church pews??? lol. Not exactly the best seating for a coffee shop but alright. Finally I take my drink and off I go, walking back to the loft where I’m staying. It has to cool down anyway. I’m maybe a block away from where I’m staying and I take a little sip. It tastes… meh but it’s cool enough I can drink more. I take a big gulp and nearly choke! My esophagus was literally on fire. They must put cayenne pepper in the mocha because it was insanely hot. I love hot and spicy food but I was freaked out. I took another sip and it burned as badly as the first. I just threw it out. It didn’t taste good even, it just tasted like hot peppers and it made me concerned. Like why the hell is the coffee spicy? Is there something wrong with it?

Good lattes. Not the best I’ve tasted but certainly up there. The Lattes are overpriced at around 4 $ something. The other good Latte places lake café Olimpico and Milano hold theirs at 3.75 $. However, these guys have fresher roasts and may be using more expensive beans so I think it’s fair. I did not try the food but it looked tasty. The staff are friendly, knowledgeable and care about what their creations. You can tell the difference if you have ever seen stressed out Starbucks baristas. Nice open and sunny décor and the crowds don’t tend to be loud if you want to do some reading. Downside: They do have a tight paid parking area –Try the free parking in the side streets-, choppy internet if streaming and they tend to run out of tables but they have church style seating if you don’t really need a table. The following is just for Coffee enthusiasts so you might want to skip: They roast their own coffee. Few places in Montréal do that reliably. That means you can get fresh espresso beans for your Lattes at home every week –check the date on the bags-. I suggest popping in Thursdays to pick up the bags. The freshness of the roast goes a long way in making a good cup of espresso/Latte. You Also get a discount on one espresso or Latte cup if you purchase a bag. I would suggest Holycow for Lattes –though it doesn’t cut through the milk that much– and Godshot for straight espressos. I think they offer bean roasting and Barista classes.

This place offers great cups of fresh roasted, single origin coffees. We especially enjoyed their Ethiopian coffee brewed using the Chemex method. We also tried their cappuccino. It was a high quantity as noticed by the espresso’s sweetness, foam’s creaminess, and foam art. We loved that the Chemex was served with tea cups.

Amazing moka. I don’t know why, but it was spicy. No complaints about it. Pastries not very good though. That’s why it lost some stars.

Two and can be, but often deliberately chooses not to be, three or four stars: The staff cannot currently make a consistent espresso. My Americano often tastes like a watered down soup of old coffee grounds due to the lack of mindfulness of its preparer. This absolutely must be fixed if I am not to be completely swayed from coming here. My experience is dependent on who is working what shift. I roll dice every time I come here. Fortunately, the odds have been in my favor some part of the time.

What an experience! I said to a friend I never go to Tim Hortons and we decided to meet there(it’s in my neighborhood), and I was embarrassed I brought him in! First of all, the place is a mess. REAL mess! Looks like if a business has closed down and some punks decided to throw in some stolen church benches and enjoy the moment till it lasts(there are actual church benches scattered chaotically in this place!).The dishes are all streaks and scratches, and… yes, I understand it’s winter, but. I don’t even want to talk about the condition of the floor. The lighting screams«drink your coffee fast and go!».Otherwise you go blind!!! The punk-ish girl at the counter has the same approach too: «so, what do you want?».and no more words.(and you think, thank Gd she didn’t say anything else!:) .after all this. who cares if the coffee is good or bad. but I must say it was bearable. They say they roast the coffee beans on premises and bring in some special kinds of coffee. WHAT for, people??? to overburn them at premises and throw that cup of coffee at people’s faces in this freaking mess??? I don’t know, maybe it’s a new level of «authenticity» here. or maybe it’s just a punk game. I am just surprised by a substantial amount of good reviews I see for this place! These guys actually rock! Some businesses few blocks away have so much to offer and still improving themselves, but this one… what an experience!.. but never again, please.

When it comes to coffee, and especially good coffe, this is definitely a place you want to visit. From espresso to aero press, filter, mocha, chai latte, you name it, you’ll find whatever you’re in the mood for. Selection of muffins and pastries, the almond croissant was big and really good ! Service is nice and the place is cozy. With… Church benches to sit on. Why not. They brew their own coffee here too so a nice smell will welcome you. Possibility to buy any coffee they have on the menu to bring home. Enjoy !

In my previous review, I recommended Saint-Henri Micro-Torréfacteur in spite of the inconsistent coffee preparation I experienced regularly; someday the coffee would taste amazing, another day it would be a diluted mess. Well, it seems like the coffee angels heard me! Over the past 3 weeks, the several Latte I ordered have all been consistently well brewed, honoring their delicious coffee beans. I raise my two thumbs to the coffee shop and its baristas who have made my life even more enjoyable! I pray that this trend continues, Amen.

Little charming coffee place in the heart of Montréal. It was fabulous to find that they carried almond milk to enjoy an exquisite cappuccino. The girl behind the counter was so pleasant and sweet, I felt like learning french just to have a conversation with her.
