Fujiji

It looked like it was closed, and there was no one else in the restaurant. When a man finally came in from a deck outside, the Service was quick. Having said that, the sushi rolls were very poor quality.

We have tried sushi all over Vancouver Island and Fujiji is by far our favorite. We even give Gift Certificates. Sam, the owner, has been in business for over 25 years. My husband & I go at least twice a month.

I was very hopeful upon entering Fujiji with my boyfriend, as I had heard good things, however it went downhill almost immediately when our server seated us from across the restaurant. He made no movement to come to us whatsoever.
Once seated, or service was reasonable enough in terms of friendliness and speed, but nothing special. The miso soup was good, and the presentation of the sushi was nice. I got the tuna and salmon combo (1 tuna maki, 1 salmon maki, 2 tuna nigiri, and 2 salmon nigiri). The pieces of fish were huge, and it was garnished with nori and fish roe.
My excitement of my meal was short lived, however. It was almost impossible to get anything into my mouth without it falling apart. I’m no expert with chopsticks, but I’ve never had this problem before. Most of my nigiri ended up in a pile at the side of my plate. What I did manage to eat was tasty, but there were a few bites that felt like the tuna had been frozen and hadn’t thawed all the way.
My boyfriend ordered the beef teriyaki dinner and a California roll, and it was delicious. The beef was tender, and everything was cooked to perfection.
Overall, it was half decent. The prices were very reasonable, and everything but the sushi was very good. Will I go back? Probably not. Would I recommend it? Only of you’re looking for a full belly for a very reasonable price.

After asking for a reduction on our bill for the price of one roll we were accused of trying to get «free food!» Insulting!

Nice dining room but ultimately disappointing. Perhaps I expected too much. The sushi wasn’t overgood and the special roll combinations I had did not excite my little palate. Grilled chicken app was tasty, but chicken and noodle dish was lackluster and uninteresting. Service was inattentive. Not horrible, but no need to go there, either. Really. Just keep driving.

Stopped here for lunch during a business meeting. Pleasant atmosphere, friendly servers and free wifi. The sushi was very good and were large portions for the price. I’ll be going back sooner than later.
