I used the self checkout yesterday. two female teen-workers that were assigned at check-out, seem busy betting on ‘stupid customers’ who potentially could run into trouble. mocking them and laughing. And guess what! the card reader jammed while I was paying. there came one of them while laughing hard. After couple of minutes of ‘dumb blond” clueless examining the card reader, she pulled the card out. machine was beeping and unresponsive. but did manage to display the payment had gone through. So she examines my bag content and with smug on her face, makes a-go– away-gesture with her hand. «you can go», she said. I ask, did the payment go through? and there she goes again. waving her hand. «doesn’t matter, «go, go». Since there was no receipt, I said, «hold on, I still need to pay if the payment didn’t go through». Now, I had really confused this little short blond genius. So she calls the manager and the manager starts screwing around the machine for a while. She was acting surprised that someone is insisting to pay even when the machine had failed. Finally she agreed to write my name and phone number down, and let me know in case the payment had failed. My free advice: 1. Look! we know that some of the folks who work there, probably can’t even afford to buy a candy bar in that store. Mocking folks who can, is not cool, it is petty. Reading my above comments should provide a clue. Acting like snobs, and talking down to people, who potentially making 10 times more money than you, and have far greater achievements in life, makes you look even more stupid. 2. no matter what the situation, treating your customers with respect is the key to success in any kind of BUSINESS. specially when you are overcharging them like crazy, and Walmart and other stores nearby. 3. having white staff doesn’t add class or generate revenue for your business. Particularly non white managers with poor self image may try to compensate by hiring the«wrong white». 4. having the wrong command of English(hillbilly) is even worst than having non. 5. invest in training and higher pay, could get you far. 6. thankfully, there are far more decent honest folks around, that want to pay for the items they purchased, no matter what! Don’t act surprised! You can’t give away what is not yours! You just work there. Being involved in adults higher education, I don’t get insulted that easily. But seriously! read this! This is coming from a clean-cut middle aged white guy, who is reasonably dressed and doesn’t project idiot burned on his forehead.

I don’t like this Safeway — simple. Some staff can be quite rude(especially the older people). I noticed that they have changed their plastic bags to read something along the lines of «our mission: better produce everyday at at lower prices» — LAUGHABLE. I pit stop in on occasion. About a week ago, I was in here asking about the quality of their ground beef(which I rarely buy anymore). The young man I spoke with had very dry, peeling lips(big chunks of skin hanging off) and severe halitosis(I’m almost sure it was this location and not the Safeway at New West Station — very expensive here as well). Anyway, I asked him about the change in their ground beef — you used to be able to get a very lean option. I’ve noticed in recent months that the so-called extra-lean/lean ground beef looks worse that what used to be classified and labelled as regular ground. You can see the big chunks of white gristle, vein looking stringy things and chunks of fat. Now that I’ve posted this, they’ll probably«meat glue» it up or add red food colouring to it. Their meats are very over-priced and of poor quality. Seems Safeway is trying to improve their profits where they can. Why do they have all these cash registers and no one at them? I am glad they got rid of that stupid points card system — annoying marketing BS.

Came here 5÷31÷14 w wife b/c now owned by Sobeys. We found Safeway quality before to be lower & prices higher than other stores such as SS&SOF. Also 20 yrs ago the staff use to make more money than nurses was the saying in nursing school. Well I guess we ran into one of those relic employees who had an attitude of the customer was just an inconvenient part of her job. Striploin steak was on sale for $ 6.99. None in the cooler so we asked the butcher who was pleasant & pointed out that a lady was putting them out. Others were also waiting but she went to the far side of the meat cooler to unpack her trolley. When my wife approached her to ask she gave a very dirty look & said cant you see im doing this first?. What was that?. A normal response could have been Ill be there after I finish unloading these. Better still was to look for a pack in the trolley & offer it but we didnt expect over & above service but never rude service. We had to inform the manager. One star extra as other staff & manager were pleasant. We let the manager know we werent going to shop here that day.

This Safeway store has the exact same layout as the one I used to frequent in San Jose so finding my way around is a piece of cake. The prices are much more expensive though, but you can’t blame this location for that, although I have noticed that this and other Safeways have started to price some of their produce differently. Who’s ever heard of charging bell peppers each instead of by the pound??? It’s a good thing I pay attention to the price signs because I almost got duped. I appreciate the disinfectant wipes at the store’s entrances ‘cuz those hand baskets are some kind of dirty. The store is clean and provided you’re purchasing your items at a competitive sale price, your Safeway experience should be fairly pleasant. Parking is free and plentiful but do pay attention to the pedestrians ‘cuz they have a way of just walking from the store to the parking lot without looking and I’ve already witnessed someone get hit while crossing the street. It would be nice if the Safeways here could adopt the US stores’ perk of offering free wifi while in the store.

This is one of the newer starbuck locations to open in new westminster and so far it’s been a good experience. Coffee arrives promptly, food is quick and the service overall is a very good. Job well done.

Wow, this place has changed a lot in the 10 plus years since I worked here lol. For a Safeway it looks nice. There’s a Starbucks right inside the doors and they have a BMO on site. What I like the most is that they finally made the exit door into two doors as no one seemed to be able to read the exit only sign lol. I tend to go to the smaller produce stores etc., but for bigger items that I won’t find there I will come to Safeway. I like that I can just check myself out and not deal with people. The line ups can be crazy. What is really good about the store is that it is attached to the mall so one can get their retail therapy in before they get the groceries.

Connected right to Royal City Centre in New Westminster, this Safeway is located right in the centre, but oddly enough, it is not interconnected with the mall. If you were to get to the entrance of the Safeway, you go right to the end of the mall, go into the parking lot, then go down a flight of stairs before you reach this grocery store. It is one of those, renovated Safeways, with a very high ceiling, a nice Starbucks, and also Bank of Montréal service. For me Safeway has been another alternative to eating out, or a food court so to speak, and this one is no different, with some great cooked foods, from the grilled panini’s, to the mac-and-cheese, and soup options, it is a nice getaway from the food court. For me, the prices at Safeway are ok, as long as you have your Safeway Club Card(or phone number that it is registered to), and you never need to buy the stated amount if it is on sale, like 2 for $ 4, where you just buy 1 for $ 2 at the till. The one other thing I come to Safeway for is their cheese loaf, especially when it is fresh.

It’s kind of exciting that the newest Safeway to get a makeover(soft light, soothing brown tones, Starbucks) is the one right near me. And though I had nothing to do with it, I kind of like the fact that«our» Safeway is now one of the biggest in BC. Wooo, big Safeway! I still think that Safeway is kind of lacking when compared with my darling steady grocery pal Save-On. Let me count the ways: no bulk section, crappy selection of natural and/or organic brands, generally higher prices overall, and need to watch expiry and/or packed on dates on perishables like a hawk. It’s okayfor quick trips, but no way do they have everything I need. But it’s big, there’s now a Starbucks, and the deli is pretty good for sammies and soups and snacks — and they’ll make you a darn fine party tray if you order ahead.
