bf and i came here ordered poutine and calamari the calamari was $ 12.50 for a measly portion, not even a handful there was no jalapeños onion or anything, very upset about price and small quantity AND missing ingredients… didnt even have the thought to say ingredients were missing until we noticed ourselves. will not go here again unless for just poutine

Poutine are good albeit expensive and I recently tried the Philly cheese steak sandwich, tiny sandwich not worth the $ 15.

Such a shame… The food is good but we found a small metal screw in our Jamba poutine? Never mind the fact it’s already so pricy considering its just fries and cheese curds but id expect some more care in preparation of our food. Not likely to come back any time soon Took it to go, didn’t see the screw until half way done the food. Not a very comforting sight Cheese curds are still hard and chewy, not the melted goodness you’d expect, even though it was in the box for a good 10 minutes before we ate it, it still wasn’t hot enough to even soften the curds

I love their butter chicken medium poutine! A bit pricy but you’ll be filled for sure. Best looking poutine ever!

Never loved poutine so much before finding this place! It is conveniently located inside the New West skytrain station and is super cozy! Some amazing flavours and unconventional poutines to try out — from Italian«Big Hero» to Korean inspired«Night Market» to Indian«Butter Chicken», there is something for everyone. The beer selection is pretty good too! Haven’t tried their burgers/sandwiches because I’m all about poutine! One word of caution though — the portions get massive, even a medium. If you’re with friends, I would suggest getting smalls(one for each of you) so that you can try the different flavours if you can’t decided AND so that you won’t die from overeating. Its delicious, but definitely too rich if you eat too much. My friends and I learned the hard way when we all got mediums. If you’re just with one person and you can agree on one flavour, a medium should suffice even the hangriest of people: P

3.5 stars. It sucks to take transit for an hour to arrive at the restaurant only to find the dining space closed for a private event, with takeout service being offered instead, but then realizing the wait for takeaway poutine will be 30+ minutes(compared to ~10) since the private party inside has just ordered. Normally I would be willing to wait the extra time, but I decided to bail since my hourly bus waits for no one. Other than that hiccup, the poutine here is good. I’m fond of the baked potato or the buffalo chicken varieties. The night market one is a bit of a mess, but I understand it’s more of a novelty thing to have ginger beef, kimchi, and wonton strips on your poutine. Portion sizes are huge. Unless you’re absolutely starving, the small size is sufficient since it’s still a heaping mountain of carbs and stuff. I can’t speak for the rest of the food here other than the poutines. Their beer selection looks impressive, but I always go for a cherry coke or cream soda when I’m here.

Can you say guilty pleasure? I love the beer selection and food is to die for! I wanna learn to make that southwest sauce they put on my poutine, absolutely scrumptious. The service is great. I was offered beer samples when trying to decide what to drink. It’s also very refreshing to see staff that young who genuinely enjoy their jobs.

Craving poutine? This is the place to go! The sizes are huge! The plates might look small but they top it off really well. A medium can be shared between two people. I’m hoping for a little more flexibility in the menu though. I avoid eating pork and beef, would have liked to be able to substitute chicken, but they said no. Other than that, good food and good vibes!

Just stopped in for classic poutine while taking a short trip into BC. It was half off, which made it even better! We had to be a little creative with the pepper and vinegar to really give it a nice flavor, but it was 5 bucks and really hit the spot.

Perfect poutine every time! My friends and I often struggled to find a place to grab a quick bite to eat before heading to Landmark theatre. After doing some quick review look-ups in the area, we read some buzz about The Spud Shack and decided to try it. Well… it’s now turned into a little bit of a tradition. One of the reasons this place is so perfect for a before movie bite, is the way its set up. You just line up, place your order, grab your drink, then find a seat and wait. Its efficient and the wait for food isn’t too long. They have plenty of drinks to sip, from two whites/reds, craft beers, bottled beers, gluten-free beers, ciders, and sodas. All which pair oh-so perfectly with poutine. Which is exactly what we get every time. I mean, If you’re going to be indulging in comfort food eating/movie watching/potentially junk food nibbling, you might as well go hard. The«Baked» Potato poutine and The«Hero» poutine are just perfect for that. Adding bacon, sour cream, and a splash of green onions to a poutine just makes it that much more savoury. The«Hero» is also quite delectable, and in my opinion, reminds me of a chilli poutine. All in all, I have to say that their original poutine is my favourite. There is just something so good about a well done Canadian classic. I have to mention that if you aren’t all that into giant mounds of gravy/cheese curd covered fries, their plain Frites are amazing by themselves. They are the perfect amount of crispy. You can pair these with their creative mayo/ketchup dips if you fancy. As well, the small sized portions are just prefect for my 5’5 self. I don’t usually end up finishing it all because I find their food pretty filling! I believe this place is extremely well priced for the quality, location, and convenience. I have not yet dabbled in their sandwiches, burgers, or salads(as their poutine is just too hard to pass up) but hopefully next time! Which shouldn’t be too long.

New Westminster station has grown so much in the past few years. Having banks, a grocery store, various shops, a movie theater, and restaurants has made this a much less sketchy place to be while waiting for your train. Spud Shack is a small little restaurant located by Ardene and a short walk from the movie theater. I went with my mom and we split the medium size original poutine. It was good. Served hot, the cheese melted from the gravy which sometimes doesn’t happen so you’re stuck eating cold, chunky cheese. Being the gluttons we are, we also split The Doughnut — a rather over the top, chocolate filled, chocolate covered, ice cream topped pastry. I would recommend splitting it with a friend for sure; we were already full from our poutine so eating this monster was a bit of a challenge. I’ve only been the once, but I’m not one who is usually drawn to greasy food on a regular basis. I’m sure I’ll be back one day. But for now, I’ll recommend it. It’s easily accessible too. If you’re on a skytrain, you have no problem getting there.

i must’ve been pre-menstrual, because i usually avoid deep-fried food like mad, but that same madness overtook me when i found out there’s a place i can stuff myself with vegan poutine. within two days of finding out about it, i was sitting in their darkened dining room, trying to eat a stack of gravy & daiya soaked frites gracefully, but miserably failing. oh, the gravy massacre… there are three vegan poutine options: the original(frites, gravy, cheese), the buffalo(breaded gardein chiggen and frank’s ‘i put that sh*t on everything’ red hot) and the big v(a mess of veggie chili and cheese atop a mound of frites). i chose the original because, mais oui, i wanted gravy and melted cheese on my damn fries. small is plenty big enough for an active wo-man like me, but i’m sure i could easily scarf down a medium if i was not under duress. the frites are fabulous: perfectly salted, utopianly crispy on the outside, and a good width. the gravy(all of their gravy is vegan, but it’s not gluten-free) is rich and flavourful, but it was a bit too salty for me. of course, the lovely and liberal layer of daiya mozza atop the gravy made it ridiculously scarfable. also ordered the yam, quinoa, and oat burger(vegan and gluten-free) with a vegan, gluten-free bun. the burgers and its fixings are yummy. the only problem with the burger is that it’s not too solid — it oozed out of the bun as soon as i took a bite(oozed out like a big, flavourful thick lava paste of yam spread). messiness aside, veg burg was very tasty, and i’d order it again — the only issue is its softness and the squish factor. the veg burg came with a big cone of frites, so by the end of the meal, i’d eaten enough fries to last me two or three PMS cycles. i ordered the final(ever, boo hoo!) glass of bench 1775 red to go with my pig-out. wine and fries? hell yeah! their beer list is impressive, i must say, and they offer a few gluten-free beer and cider picks, too. i think the prices are reasonable: the small original poutine i ordered is $ 5. i filled up on that, but piggishly ordered the veg burg post poutine(at least i shared it with someone!). i’ll be going back… soon…but not so soon that i’ll have to increase my gym frequency!

The Spud Shack Fry Co. has(among other things), «poutines» — fries with stuff on them. It’s kind of like Chinese noodles at a budget Chinese restaurant — lots of cheap carbs with a pile of stuff on top. It’s a small, dim place with simple seating. They are presently slightly understaffed, so don’t expect all tables to be wiped down during or shortly after their dinner rush. TIP: When you walk in, look up. It says«Order Here». We totally missed that and instead went to secure seats for our party. Only later did we wander over to the counter, and we still didn’t see the big sign right over the counter. Duh. TIP: If you can get to New Westminster Skytrain Station before 6pm, they have $ 5 drinks on Happy Hour special that ends at 6pm. Also late-night«Last Call» $ 5 drink specials(the one hour before closing). Their Large Poutines are mostly $ 15 and you get a heaping plate of fries. We’re talking probably 3 – 4 cups of fries. Depending on the topping you choose, you might get more or less toppings. The«Night Market» poutine looked like it had maybe 50% more quantity of toppings overall compared to the«Squealer» which was topped with pulled pork. Price for portion is a bit high but you are also paying for the«fancy toppings» so overall it comes out to decent value. $ 15 is a gourmet burger plus side. Here you have all sides plus toppings, and probably more volume for your money. Also, a single Large Poutine probably works out to a light meal for two persons. Sharing plates and extra forks are available for the asking. The Squealer($ 15 for large) pulled pork, BBQ sauce –Pulled pork OK. BBQ sauce not overdone, so the whole thing wasn’t a too-salty too-sweet mess which can sometimes happen when you get a pulled pork + BBQ combo. The Night Market($ 15 for large) Kimchi, Ginger Beef, Crispy Wontons, Spicy mayo, Green Onion, Sesame Seeds -«Crispy wontons» are the deep fried strips that look like noodles. Doesn’t really add that much to the taste. Probably more for fun. –There were sesame seeds? –Gingery from the beef. –No heat from the kimchi. Not too much kimchi(probably a good thing), but enough to be there. –Overall quite interesting and tasty, but the clear ginger taste might be startling to some. I’m going to cautiously give them a full 5 stars for tastiness and value for money, BUT this is for their poutines only. They also have other things, such as a messy falling-apart veggie burger that my friend tried. Didn’t look like a 5-star build to me, but I didn’t personally try it so I can’t rate it.

This place is so convenient, and you really can’t go wrong with poutine and craft beer! Some friends and I stopped by before heading to the cinema. We were looking for something quick and tasty and this certainly fit the bill! I ordered a Yellow Dog IPA(so tasty), and *ahem* The Big V. Yup. This is poutine with veggie chili, cheese, green onions, and sour cream. Heaven, basically! I ordered a medium which was absolutely more than enough food — I ended up taking a bunch of it home with me, as was my plan all along. It was super fresh and hot when it popped up on the counter, and we all enjoyed our meals. A small seems to be a good size for a moderate eater, but regardless of the size, you’re going to get a very satisfying mound of food! I like that they have inventive types of poutine here, and I’ll have to come back to try their regular to see how it stands up. The location is so convenient being literally steps off the skytrain platform, the food is great, and the service was friendly. You can’t go wrong!

I’ve had poutine all over Vancouver and I have to say, The Spud Shack had the most amazing tasting poutine I’ve had in a long time. Everything was cooked to perfection, their staff was amazing, and their small restaurant looked really cool. Our whole staff was impressed with whatever they ordered. The owner personally came over and explained how we would get our food and what was best on the menu. Definitely will go back.

I crave a good traditional poutine here and there. When I saw that they have opened one up in New West I needed to try it. Note to self and tips for others if you’re not taking the skytrain it might be a little difficult to find if you haven’t been here before. I drove to the area parking was hard to find being close to the station. I haven’t been to this station since I went to college in New West years ago. Wow it has changed! If you enter the main entrance to the station its pretty easy to find. A bit confusing because usually you can’t enter the station without a train ticket well I guess not here, so I got lost, almost gave up until I saw a sign, it was meant to be and Im happy I found it! I entered the small restaurant with a sports bar feel. The menu on the wall lets you choose from sandwiches, fish & chips, and of course poutines. I ordered what I came here for a medium poutine. Pretty good portion for $ 7. The gravy was good, I would rather have a little bit more cheese curds but it was still tasty some cheese melted and some stayed firm, the fries were great! It was a really good poutine I would come back and live on the edge a little and try out non traditional poutine.

Situated inside the New West train station this place serves decent poutine, however, a little on the pricey side for a large. I shared my large vegetarian chili poutine with my sister and we were both full. They serve red wine which was interesting. It’s not really a red wine kind of place but for some it works. The place is small with limited seating.

I’ve always seen this place while traveling on the skytrain and have been wanting to check them out. So when my daughter was in town we did so and I’m so glad we did! The two men that worked there was friendly and helped us pick the right poutine. We both got a small and it was just right. I’ll be back Spud.

Maybe I was just in an off mood(it had been a rough day, hence the decision for comfort food) but everything was just kinda. meh. The fries were good but not life-alteringly so. We had the burger which was overcooked for us) — even by BC well-done standards. The salad we had was also lacking in flavour. Writing this out, I realize how ridiculous it sounds. I went to an upscale NY Fries and had a salad. Duh. Guess I should go back for the poutine. I will be back and update then. Would be a four star but because I see this as being primarily a lunch spot and I can’t stop in during my 30 minute lunch break — food takes too long for me to order, eat, and go — I can’t give it a four.
