Of Rock & Chalk Climbing

We came in without booking in advance, and there was no space for us, but the girl at the registration desk was so nice she gave us a complimentary card to try it for next time. It was so nice of her. The staff are super friendly :)

This was my first time rock climbing and I loved it! Even though I totally suck in it: climbing 5.7 route was my top achievement :)
My husband and I got a Groupon deal for $ 42 and it included everything: harness, shoes, and the instructor who did all the belaying. We decided to take a lesson in one of the climbing gyms in downtown, going to Rock & Chalk was justified by Groupon savings but it’s too far a ride from where we live.

I found a deal for this place on Groupon and decided to make a day of it with my family. This is an indoor facility with two different rooms of walls. We climbed the walls for two hours and the staff were super nice, helpful and patient. There are many different walls to try out, the staff will know which ones are easier and suitable for your physical needs. I would start out thinking a wall was easy and then halfway up the wall I would realize how wrong I was. There are also ropes and ladders, a great place for the whole family.
We had six people, two different instructors were there to hold the ropes and guide us through the climb. I asked if you have to be able to climb all of the walls in order to become staff and the young man helping us out replied that it is not necessary but is useful because you can aid the customers, provide tips and make the experience better. This is definitely true because this guy can climb! He also knew how to get the most out of the wall and showed us all of the different obstacles that Of Rock and Chalk offers. Other then the two main rooms there are the boulder climbing that are smaller walls, done without the use of the ropes and staff members.
We had a great time and I will definitely recommend this place to anyone in the Newmarket area looking for an adventure.

I went here for the first time tonight. As what would be called a complete novice, I had a blast. The staff is well-​trained and encouraging. They are also accomodating. The facilities are really quite good. I’m no expert, but there was a good mix of climbing and bouldering. I would be lying if I said I wasn’t hurting a whole lot right now, but it was so entirely worth it. I would go again, even though it’s in Newmarket. That would be the drawback for this city boy, but when that’s where everybody is going (and they handled the nearly 20 of us very well), well, that’s where you go.
