Niagara College of Applied Arts and Technology

As a non-​student, this is difficult to review, so I’ll talk about my limited experience.
(I did write a separate review for Benchmark and the on-​site Greenhouse.)
Walking around, seemed as though there were many smiling faces, so that’s always a good sign! The hall I walked down seems older, but the larger part of the building facing the major street appears to be new construction.
What I can comment on is that there seems to be very little parking spots reserved for the Benchmark restaurant. After I parked, I did inform a guy in a uniform, who I assumed was parking authority, whether or not I was in the appropriate spot. He concurred, but when I got to my car, I had a pink parking «warning» on my windshield!
My questions are who placed that there and how were they to know that I WASN’T at the restaurant? I found this just slightly irritating. Rant over.

Niagara College claims to be voted #1 in «student satisfaction» year after year! Well I can say the Diploma was worth it.
I took the program in Accounting with COOP. Most of the teachers are very knowledge, but one was a little racist in marking. You will have to work a little hard for the Coop and make sure you impress in the interview; as the connections of the job centre and employers in this area are very limited.
The Campus is great and has grown big time with new program requiring new buildings such as restaurant, Greenhouse, Spa, Winery & brewery.

I don’t have any other post-​secondary institutes to compare this school to, but based on talking with friends, family and colleagues, and their positive experiences with their Colleges and Universities, I decided to give my 2 cents about this whole shit show.
This school promised me a co-​op placement related to the field of study I was in – Human Resources — when I signed up for their 3 year HR co-​op program a few years ago and completely let me down. Niagara College touts the fact that they offer programs with co-​ops but they barely have ANY connections to companies or businesses in the region. It was so disappointing! The placements I did manage to get interviews for were for positions that dozens and dozens of other students from Niagara and Brock University were vying for too. Wasn’t one of the lucky ones, unfortunately (along with many more in my class…) I ended up moving back to Toronto for the 4 months I should have been in a co-​op, worked at a fucking grocery store, then came back for my last semester. Trying to get a place on a 4 month lease sure was fun. Plus just the hassle of moving your life 1.5 hours away… not the easiest thing.
Some of the teachers were nice and knowledgeable, some were completely ridiculous and rude. The teacher who was supposed to help get us a co-​op was completely useless. Word got back to our class that one of the heads @ the Ministry of Transportation gave her feedback about the the resumes she had received from our class. The resumes edited and approved by this one teacher. Apparently they were completely not the style appropriate for the type of position we were applying for and not one person in our class got called in for an interview. God knows how many more call-​backs we missed out on due to her bad advice. I also just found her to be a complete scatter-​brain and that she definitely didn’t have my best interest at hand. Our economics teacher had NEVER TAUGHT A CLASS IN HIS LIFE when he was assigned to our class. Turns out everyone failed the course, but he gave us all 60% so it wouldn’t look bad on him. I also remember one of our accounting teachers being a complete asshole and making a classmate cry.
Another reason I’d spend those OSAP dollars elsewhere is that their residence (NOTL Campus) is INFESTED with Bed Bugs. Not *technically* a part of the college but guilty by association. You can read my review for that disgusting cesspool of a building here:

The gym is a joke. 2 treadmills, 2 bikes. Some dumbbells and mats. No pool. The cafeteria sucks ass.
I would strongly recommend NOT attending this school. None of the companies I went on interviews with in Toronto even knew who/​what/​where Niagara College was. Such a waste of money. And after all the shit they put me through, they made me jump through hoops to actually get my certificate and graduate! All because I didn’t do a co-​op, which was THEIR FAULT to begin with.
I could go on and on about how shitty this school was but it’s not even worth my time… Thanks for the useless certificate, Niagara!

Touring the Niagara On The Lake Campus of Niagara College of Applied Arts and Technology give me this urges of wanting to be back in school…
Not that I am looking forward to examinations, assignments or group projects. but I do interested in some of their Culinary Courses and Wine Appreciation/​Making courses. Basically you are taking a course at where all these VQA wines coming from and NC does have it owns wineries and breweries for the students to practice!
I guess I have to continue to day dream of tasting wine as one of my homework/​assignments. For the time being, I would love to support the students by visiting their Greenhouse, their restaurant (Benchmark), their Spa (Niagara Water Spa), their winery (Dean List’s) and their Brewery (First Draft).
