I love love love!!! This place! The salad is amazing! No seriously… They make everything bite sized, and at first you think it’s not a ton of food, but you often walk away full! My best recommendation is to go for lunch, it’s often less expensive and I find the menu a bit better, for me personally… If your going with a big group… Book ahead, they often fill up… Also, ask for a special room upstairs… If your looking for a more authentic feel that is! The rooms upstairs are great. Now just a note, this place is not wheelchair accessible, so if that matters to you, unfortunately this may not be the best place.

The best restaurants are in the largest cities. If that statement bothers you then you likely live in a small city(sometimes the truth hurts). That being said, there are moments where an establishment will sprout up, far exceeding the city it calls home. North Bay’s Kabuki House is a perfect example. The hibachi grill downstairs and the traditional low table seating upstairs, provide an appropriate dining atmosphere but the menu makes the whole experience memorable. No it does not compete with Toronto’s Guu or Kingyo, but the context is more important here. In my opinion, Kabuki House could compete with the bulk of what Southern Ontario has to offer as far as traditional Japanese, and is located in a city of 54,000 that is predominantly caucasian. The salad dressing is legendary, the sushi rolls are more like meals than appetizers, and I have never been disappointed with any of the bentos or mains. For people visiting North Bay during cottage season, this is a perfect dinner option. For those who live in the Bay, do yourself a favour, skip the all-you-can-eat(and the food coma) and indulge in some fine Japanese cuisine.

A real surprise, great food, service and experience, I’d definitely recommend this restaurant and if ever I’m back in the area would love to go back.

I have been here for special occasions and business lunches. Every time the food has been delicious. The atmosphere has been perfect, the staff friendly. Did I mention the food was really good. I look forward to my next visit.

Wonderful food! Great atmosphere. Showed up without a reservation and was given a private room for me and my guest. Excellent service. Price didn’t scare me. The BBQ Eel was tasty.

I enjoyed my lunch there; it was a nice change from going to the same other places over and over again, hence why I think it is so busy, that and because it is small. The portions are not large, it is expensive, but the food was good, the service was ok, the restaurant was clean, the environment was okay, but yes don’t just show up because you more than likely won’t get a table.

We went to the Kabuki House and enjoyed ourselves immensely. The food was top notch as well as the service. We were even entertained by the chef with juggling the pepper mills. We ordered the two Bento boxes, Take and? . Fantastic. We always order tempura sweet potatoes for an appetizer and I am always pleased with the quality and presentation. Our meal came to around $ 200. and we had cocktails and wine, so we were pleased. I love that they have replaced their chairs as the new ones are so comfortable. North Bay is so fortunate to have the Kabuki House.

This place was a complete surprise. We walked in the door and got seated right up front where the main action happens. One teppan grill and a Japanese chef with a bit of character. Might not know as many tricks as some I have seen. We are talking North Bay here!

Sadly this is as good as the Japanese food gets in North Bay. After moving to Toronto and being introduced to Japanese food there, coming home to North Bay to try the locally available Japanese food was beyond disappointing. When we first tried to go to this place, we showed up mid-morning around 1100. We showed up at the door and waited to be seated. Apparently you can’t even go to this restaurant without a reservation so don’t waste your time expecting to walk in. The most frustrating part about this was that there was nobody there and there certainly wasn’t going to be for the next hour while we ate. So we turned around and left to go into an even more disappointing restaurant(Valenti’s — find my review here: ). When I did finally make a reservation to go to this place we found the food and service was terrible. The location was clean and well kept but it didn’t make up for the terrible experience we endured while there. Also, the cost of the food was criminal. We racked up a $ 70 bill between two people!(in less than an hour!) I’d much rather eat the Sushi buffet available at Oishi Sushi in Toronto than ever return to this place. Never again.
