WEDNESDAYSPECIAL… Beans, slaw, pork roast with crackle. Let’s start with slaw: Fan of dijon or grainy mustard? This is the slaw for you. Sweet, yet salty. Yummers. Beans: Slightly smokey flavour, tomato base. Bacon aromas tickle my palate. A delight. Pork Roast con Crackle: Moist, tender, thick baconesque roast. As for the crackle, tremendously crunchy. $ 15.00 jugs on game day? Done deal.

Service is friendly and prompt even at the busiest of times. All the food items I’ve tried gw been delicious. A step above regular pub grub.

This place makes great sandwiches but it’s greasy but yummy. Decent pub food. Fish and chip style fries are good. Prices are average. Not too crazy. Like the pub food in North Van.

A bit corporate. Drinks ok. Food ok. They seem a bit short staff the two times I’ve been. The second time around the staff seem better! Great place for a drink.

The service was terrible and the place is way too noisy. Didn’t get a chance to try the food, but the drinks were OK

I just wanted to update my review and state that I am still a regular of this establishment. It has what I am looking for in a neighbourhood pub, comfort, good food and good service. If you are looking for a place for a bite, a drink and a welcoming environment on the North Shore I can think of no place better.

Was in north van on business and it was a toss up between going here or Boston pizza. So glad I went to hagars. Bartender Danny was great — knowledgeable on the menu and let me taste each beer before buying. Had a great Mexican burger and a couple pints of delicious craft beer. Fantastic views, classic décor and a bartender who knew his beer.

Food was ok, had a toasted chicken club which was excellent, however the accompanying fries were mediocre at best. If you like loud sports bar type settings where the door to the patio/smoking area is revolving so much that you’d think you were back in the days of smoking and non smoking areas in restaurants then this is the place for you.

What to say that hasn’t been said before? Brew Pub, Order the dinner special of the day and you’ll never be disappointed. Steak for under ten bucks? Nice! Potato skins made the perfect post-movie treat, And the chicken souvlaki was phenomenal — and of course i’ve heard no complaints about the brews at this brew pub.

Have been here a few times and things were pretty decent — the food was greasy but tasty, nice selection of beers & well priced drinks, and service was perfectly adequate. Fast forward to my most recent visit… started off fine, ended horribly. God awful service — basically a MIA waitress who was more interested in standing around chatting with the other server & bar staff than her customers. Throw in some bad attitude and I have no qualms about leaving a poor tip. Gratuities are a reflection of service quality– so don’t give me a hard time for not rewarding your nonexistent service. I don’t believe in leaving nothing, but I think 10% is more than adequate for simply«dropping off ONE drink.» I definitely won’t be rushing back anytime soon, but it’s popular amongst my work colleagues so I’m sure at some point or another I will have the opportunity for *hopefully* a better experience.

Excellent food first off. The place gets packed out for hockey games. Service could be faster but it’s pleasant enough. I’m giving it 4 stars for the pub-ness of it. I don’t live anywhere near it but if I’m ever in the area…

I like this pub. It’s a pub… you don’t go there for fine cuisine, but if you want a good beer, and not overly loud ambiance it’s great. The owner is very friendly. We go there at times with a group of over 30 people and while we have been to other local pubs in the Lonsdale area, this is the only place that can handle our group tactfully and professionally, and quickly.

Stopped in for a few pints after our Robbie Burns Day Scotch tasting. I have been here a few times over the years when visiting friends on the«other side» of Vancouver. Never really impressed me that much. But this time, I was happy to see Howe Sound beers everywhere. Of course they have renamed them with Hagar-ish themes, but at least they are serving a solid local brew. A-OK sums it up for me.

The last three visits have ended in FAIL but I have had the same waitress all three times. I swear this woman gets distracted by her shadow. I always have to wait for my drinks or wave her over when I can catch her eyes as she leans and chats with the chef. During Halloween I got a bonus of fake spider web in my food and when I asked her if it was hair she glanced said nah it is spider web and walked away … For awhile they had a great chef and he made amazing steaks but he is gone and they are breaking in a new one that likes to under cook meat. I only go because it is easy to walk to but if I moved I would never go back, not because I hate it but because it isn’t that great.

This place is a dying breed. What I mean by that is that Sailor Hagar’s actually brew their own beer on site! I kid you not. They carry about 10 beers that are made in house on tap, and the rest of the generic brands are carried in bottle only. They actually use hand pumped beer engines imported from England directly from the kegs! Now thats FRESH! Some of the highlights from my past experiences have been the Raspberry Wheat, Blueberry Pale and the Real Indian Pale Ale. The brewmaster himself is usually on site to take you for a mini tour(be polite and ask nicely!). The location couldn’t be better with amazing views south of the Vancouver Downtown & Waterfront. It’s just a 100 metre walk to the ferry and Londsdale Quay. If your a beer lover looking for an authentic beer experience, you should try this place out. The food is… well lets put it this way — not as good as the beer. So fill up on hops, and enjoy the views!
