Wow!!! It was such an awesome Powow!!! Although I am not from the Squamish Nation, they let everyone from the stage to join in during the welcoming powow celebration on the centre grass stage. It was so fun and I was evening jumping and dancing with the entire group. The weather was warm and sunny, and there were hundreds of participants from all over BC, Canada and the U.S. — the very young and the very old — dressed in traditional First Nation Indian outfits. The outfits really stole the show! They were very beautiful and colourful. I’ve never seen outfits like it anywhere, including the Museum of Anthropology at UBC. There were prizes for the best dancing too, so I got to see some of the best of the best. There was an amazing smoked salmon BBQ too with some of the freshest salmon available. Admission is very reasonable 5 bucks and it’s good for 3 days.
