I have come here 1 – 2 times before. I find the produce to be not fresh n the place is not maintained properly. Yesterday went there coz i wanted something urgently n this is close to whr i live. I picked up their red velvet cake which they said was just out of the oven. When i came home n tried to cut a slice, i was having a lot of difficulty as the cake was very hard. The cake looked very old after cutting n the cream was stale. After 2 bad experiences if cakes from metro n food basics, i am never buying cakes from grocery chains!

3 cheer for FRESHORGANICVEGETABLESANDFRUIT! Reasonable selection of organic produce(lettuce, carrots, celery, tomatoes, berries, etc). The organics are reasonably priced and arrive fresh but are unfortunately stuck in the south west corner of the produce section and have to be discovered before they deteriorate. ORGANICSHOPPERS please find! FOODBASICS please post a GIANTSIGN on your windows informing that organic produce is available. We have also found other organic products on the shelves and wish they would sell Ezekiel bread. The 4th star is for the organics and will be reduced to 3 stars if the organic section is discontinued. The Newtonbrook store has plenty of free parking, location is convenient and is open 7 days from 8am to midnight and last but not least, the staff are always friendly and helpful.

I don’t come here often even though it’s in the area. The produce is not always fresh but it looked good the last time I was here. I love buying things needed for baking or items that won’t go bad in a few days. Found good ice cream for $ 2.99 on sale! Usually they are $ 5 – 6.99 at Metros. What a steal! Parking is easy to find. The only bad thing is the traffic on Yonge St. Getting out might be a problem. The plaza seems a little dodgy at times… but still worth coming for the good prices.

I have to say that my experience here sucked! The place came across as being very dirty. The produce was terrible, they were out of stock of most items, and only had one cashier working with a line down an isle. Yes it is a convenient location with parking, but I am going to stick to No Frills!

Food Basics, basically it has food. I love basic food, so I love Food Basics. Price is important so this place is my favorite. It has better prices than Metro and Loblaws. It is not flashy or dazzlingly clean, but I love it exactly the way it is for sentimental reasons. The plaza nearby has nice little shops. I love to walk here to absorb the atmosphere.

it was an okay experience. we needed groceries on sunday @ 800pm, this place is close by and still is open. the prices are very reasonable but you gotta sacrifice the quality a lil bit. wilted beans, sad green peppers, and browning pineapples. it’s okay, pick the stuff that look better. they even have safflower oil for steak which im super impressed about! it was okay, not too exciting but i got mah groceries done! :)

This is a decent Food basics but nothing special. It has the expected selection of groceries, meat and dairy but fruits and veggies were of poor quality when I last visited. The cash lines are long and very slow. I noted that they were using Desjardins payment terminals and they seem to take FOREVER to process a payment. This store is also still charging five cents for plastic bags *sigh* lining their pockets and not helping the environment. I visit this location for their loss leaders(the front page foods that they sell below cost to attract clients) but nothing else.

Convenient grocery store, open 7 days a week, Monday to saturday till midnight and I believe Sunday’s at 10pm? It’s always busy here, even before it closes at night in 15mins. I come here every other day, love fresh produce. You wont find too many organic stuff but atleast you can get the fruit/vegs you like before they ripe so you know it’s not old? One problem here tho, they have lots of cashier tills but only 2 – 3 working every single time and at nights just 1 so expect angry customers in line beside you especially on busier days.
