Not that there is much option around the area. If you are not starving, perhaps worth driving over to bowmanville for some better choices.

Great place. Friendly staff and good burger. 10⁄10 would come again. Good options for vegetarians too!

To start, I have genuinely no clue what reviewer ‘Laura W.’ below is talking about? Not worth what you pay? Store-bought bread? A thimble-sized bowl of soup? The bread is not only ‘bakery-style’, a huge portion of it(very clearly baked that day) arrived to our table warm and toasty, served with ample sides of fresh butter and home-made hummus. A table of FOUR of us shared a soup of the day as a starter(potato bacon soup with 5+ slices of crispy roasted bacon on top), and found the bowl sizable enough to be passed around between us multiple times. Now for MY actual review! The Fire Hall Bistro is amazing! Upon being seated, we discovered that their Pelee Island wine offerings were available by the bottle, for a mere $ 23 price tag! As a Torontonian, I have never paid such a reasonable price for a bottle of wine in a restaurant. The bread and soup that my group started out with was clearly home-made, but beyond that, artfully prepared. For our main courses, we all ordered dinner specials from the blackboard. Three of us had pork tenderloin with a carrot and apple chutney, roasted veggies and garlic mashed potatoes(mother of pearl it was unbelievable). The fourth member of our party had a roasted chicken breast stuffed with goat cheese and spinach, also served with veggies and garlic mash. I traded a bite of my tenderloin for a bite of that chicken. All of the flavors were exceptional, and the portions were huge. We also found out that the meat and produce are all sourced from local farms in the area. It’s clear this place cares about food. Finally, the atmosphere is just so damn endearing! A mixture of local art on the walls couples with various old Fire Hall ephemera(firefighters hats and a vintage fireman’s coat on the wall). The owner/head chef informed our table(all of us are artists), that she doesn’t charge any sort of rental fees or take commission on any of the works sold by the artists who install there. She wants to support local artists in the community and give them a break. Unbelievable. Again, as a Torontonian, I’m not used to generosities of this ilk. I now have a go-to place to stop for dinner whenever I find myself in Orono. I look forward to returning.

Food isn’t worth what you pay. What this restaurant is missing is pride. Instead of bakery style bread or buns, it’s store bought and generic. For $ 5 and 7 $ respectively, the soup or salad is thimble sized and leaves you starved after lunch. I wish the owner would go to Dee’s Harvest Table in Newcastle for some inspiration into what a small town restaurant can accomplish. If you have to close for dinner because no one is coming, then there’s a problem.
