HMV

HMV used to be THE place to go to get CDs and similar merchandise. Now that is almost an after thought to this store. Prices aren’t the best, you can usually find the same item cheaper at Wal-​Mart or Chapters.
Occasionally there’s a sale where you can pick up a decent bargain, but that’s rare. I buy a lot of CDs, but can usually find what I want for much less elsewhere.
HMV introduced a Rewards card, but you have to pay an annual subscription to be a member. And they award such minuscule points compared to what you actually need to get any item that it is completely not worth it. In fact this «reward» scheme has driven me away from regularly shopping here. I calculated that with taking off the cost of annual fees, I had to spend over $ 700 to get a voucher worth $ 4!

I bought 2 CDs May 16, 2013. One had a terrible soundtrack. When I was in Oshawa again May 23, I brought it in to exchange it, though I couldn’t find the receipt. I had the notation in my cheque book of the purchase, the CD in my hand, and the saleslady who waited on me originally remembered me, but still the manager, LINDA S., wouldn’t allow me to exchange it without the receipt. Way to treat a repeat customer. Never again!
