There are three mens stores in Oshawa… I mean real mens stores, not Moores! I had planned one day to stop into all three. After meeting Pete, the owner of Murray Johnsons and spending three hours with him, I had found my haberdasher, possibly for life. Lets start the review by stating that I’m a big guy, not fat, but powerlifter big. I cannot buy off the rack… well, I can, but the pants wear away between the legs in three months, or the jackets remind you of that Chris Farley skit (Fat Guy in a Little Coat). I have a 36 waist and a 46 back… or so I thought. Pete sat me and my wife down and explained that I was wearing the wrong sizes. It doesnt matter what size you are, it matters how a particular suit fits you. I walked out of there buying two pairs of pants that fit perfectly. Pete and I met on another occasion and he ended up tailoring all my currently owned jackets and pants so that they fit… and helped me to throw out clothing that was no longer appropriate. Go see Pete. Forget what you know. Listen to him. He has worked there for 33 years… he kind of knows what he’s doing. His prices are very, very reasonable. For a well tailored suit. yes, off the rack, but tailored to fit me, I spend $ 695. You cant get a sports coat in Toronto for $ 695. The suits are Canadian made… I like that… he has a few brands so dont go looking for Boss or Canali, go looking for a suit that fits you and looks elegant. Pete, your the best buddy. You’ve got a customer for life!
