Just came from a wonderful experience at One World Buffet. We brought about 40 – 50 people(adults and kids) here for a post funeral lunch. The food was great, the wait staff was prompt and patient! The buffet was very full and honestly I was surprised at the great selection given that it was mid-day on a weekday. In my experience, buffets usually scale the service and food back quite a bit for that time of day/week. For my bill, including a bottomless pop, and a 20% tip, it came to just under $ 24, and it was certainly worth it. I will be back and I’ll be bringing everybody with me ;)

The food and service is fantastic. My mom and I were there for brunch, but at a pricy $ 17.99, I don’t think we’d be back. There’s no way to get $ 18 of food in you at lunch. There was a fresh waffle bar and there was a large piece of each meat for carving as well as a whole turkey. They had a large salad bar, pizza/pasta bar, Chinese food, breakfast bar and dessert bar. There’s a lot of choice! If the prices weren’t so steep for lunch on a weekend, we’d be back.

The food is good, but both times I have eaten here I ended up with food poisoning. I wrote the first one off as ‘maybe I’m just coming down with a stomach bug’. But twice? Someone isn’t following food safety procedures.

Our Golden Girls Group of mostly retired woman met for dinner here recently. We identified ourselves as Seniors when the reservation was made. We also ask for individual bills. The restaurant honored our requests. Our server was excellent. Our group meets once a month for an early dinner. Usually we have about a dozen show up for dinner. The staff had us set up at the furthest table away from the food and the opposite side of the restaurant to the washroom. This restaurant is located in a former Canadian Tire store to give you an idea of the size of it. Some of us have mobility issues and walk with canes or walkers. It is difficult enough to walk as it is without having to balance a plate full of food as well. The food was just okay. The meat was on the dry/tough side. There is lots to select from. The one area I liked the best was the salad bar which appeared to have nice fresh salads. The rest of the meal was standard for a buffet. The dessert selection was limited. The fruit was not the freshest looking. Parking here is plentiful but the restaurant is between a private college and a Driving Test Office. The driving students were practicing driving around the parked cars which made me a bit nervous. The college students, I guess are not allowed to smoke in front of their own entrance moved towards the restaurant doors to smoke or towards the parked cars. I was waiting for someone to arrive and had my window down on my car and had to put it up again when the smoke started to waft inside from the smokers close by. I would not return here. I still think if you must have a buffet meal there are better choices out there.

So on a whim my husband and i decided to give this place another chance. … Not too bad this time around. All food was hot where it should be, the flavours were much improved. Excellent service. Better overall selection of dishes and more choices for desserts. The cole slaw was my only real disappointment(almost spat it out) and the gravies still need major work otherwise not a bad place for lunch at $ 12.99 Mon-Fri. We’re curious about the weekend buffet offerings…

Just returned from dinner at One World Buffet in Oshawa and in our opinion, it was a middle of the road buffet. As mentioned in other reviews, it is a large dining room but very well done, clean, tables are nicely spaced and setting was very pleasant. Being a Thursday night, the place was almost full at 6 pm. which generally makes for a quick turnover in buffet dishes. Everything we tried from Chinese, Greek, Italian and of course Canadian was fairly bland but nicely prepared. The Dill Salmon was my personal favorite and my wife enjoyed Mama Rosa(Sausage & Peppers). The salad bar is fairly small but did have medium size crack n peel shrimp. Nothing else on the salad bar really stood out and the lack of grated parmesan cheese was a bit of a disappointment for both the Caesar Salad and the Italian dishes. They had two hot soups, chicken noodle and wanton. Both were not very exciting looking so we passed on them. One interesting dish in the Chinese section was grilled shrimp(shells on) in a tangy sauce of some sort. Kind of weird having to remove the shells on a shrimp that is covered in sauce but the backs of the shells were split to make it easier. Desert tray was virtually 4 large pans of puddings, a few various types of cake, bowls of Jello, some fruit and of course ice cream. All in all, the buffet was rather uninspiring at this point in time but certainly worth the $ 15 we paid on a Thursday night, seniors rate. As mentioned in other reviews, it is NOT the Mandarin but it also doesn’t have the Mandarins price tag either. We would try it again perhaps in the warmer weather when they have had a chance to see what people say and what we expect in this type of buffet. Having travelled the world and dined in hundreds of restaurants, this one has a way to go be on our ‘favorites’ list, even in Durham Region.

Excellent Place to come for lunch. Great atmosphere, good lightning, friendly staff, lots of great food. We tried several different items from the buffet. They have an open kitchen where Chefs carve various monster size slabs of meat. I tried the turkey, and beef. Cooked perfectly for myself, a little rare for my wife. Their roasted chicken was right on the mark. They also had really good pizza. The drinks were only 2.50 and bottomless as well as twice the size glasses of their competition. Wasn’t too keen on there Chinese cuisine with the exception of there general Taos chicken, and their chicken balls but too each there own. Nice salad bar, small dessert selection, but sufficient and what was there was fresh and tasty. Overall the best part of this dining experience was that we could appease our picky 5 year old son, and kids under 12 eat free Monday to Thursday lunch(1 free child per paying accompanying adult). All in all a worth while trip to the midtown mall which has been a lacklustre to say the least for many years now. Keep in mind that this is not the Mandarin, which has had many years to learn from their mistakes and perfect their kraft. If you can remember that this should be an enjoyable experience.

Wanted to do something different for breakfast than our usual quick $ 3.99 eggs and bacon and thought we’d try the new ‘international’ buffet at Oshawa’s midtown mall that opened a month ago. They’ve taken over at least three or four stores and is absolutely enormous. Thought for sure with that kind of financial investment they’d be trying to give Mandarin some real competition. Wrong. First of all they advertised they were open at 11 but we(as well as at least four more parties) were forced to wait fifteen minutes while the ‘hot trays’ were put in. Once were seated we were seated three feet from the buffet in a restaurant that has at least 50 – 75 tables open. Who likes to have dozens of people’s butts in their faces when they’re eating? When we asked to be moved the hostess rolled her eyes which was not appreciated. Now for the food. As with other high priced buffets, drinks were not included. We opted for water as the drinks were $ 2.99 each, even the coffee. We grabbed our plates excited to try ‘international faire’ as advertised it was supposed to be Greek, Italian, American, Asian, Mexican etc. As far as we could tell there was generic Chinese and undercooked red sauce pasta bakes, and pizza. So much for world cuisine. Being brunch there was a breakfast food station which contained cold eggs Benedict with powdered hollandaise, overcooked potatoes, funny tasting bacon and my husbands favourite ‘powered eggs’ which they didn’t even bother to break up into something that would resemble scrambled eggs. I will give their carving station a B+ though for variety– ham, pork roast, Turkey, smoked meat and beef. I didn’t try any though. Dessert station contained two huge vats of caramel pudding, one of chocolate, three huge containers of underset jello and four types of cake that all looked the same. Salad bar was underwhelming and my husband said the imitation crab was hard as a rock so he abstained. All in all it wasn’t remotely worth the $ 17.99 each we paid. Dollar for dollar Mandarin has better quality and more variety. Perhaps the 3 ½ weeks of being open for business has not worked out all the kinks or maybe the owner spent so much renovating that he forgot the food should be the star and scrimped on quality ingredients. Whatever the case I won’t come back any time soon. If it’s still open for business in a year perhaps that means they’ve fixed their mistakes and I’ll give it a second try then.
