8 Locks’ Flat

If you have any budget or taste whatsoever, avoid this place. Pitchers of cheap beer somehow cost $ 25 each, and while the staff tries to create a class façade with their uniforms, ultimatley this place has no bathrooms except for a stinky port-​o-​potty out back. Given its extremely good location, it believes that it can extort patrons with high-​priced, low quality food and drink.

Hubby and I were travelling by bike along the canal — he wanted beer, and I was hungry so we stopped at 8 Locks. I was expecting bad bar food and over-​priced low-​end plonk but was very pleasantly surprised on both counts. The chicken lollipops were drumsticks grilled to juicy perfection in a yummy sweet sauce; the Canadian mezze had some really nice local cheeses and the beet salad was perfect. Beer was micro-​brewed (can’t remember the name tho’ as I’m not a beer drinker), and the wine menu was decent. The location is fabulous for a scenic pit-​stop on bike. The only downside was the plastic cutlery. I’ll definitely be stopping here again throughout the summer :-)

An interesting addition to the canal scene. Many of the dishes are suitable for sharing. A little difficulty cutting with the apparently eco-​friendly bamboo knife, but not a deal-​breaker. A great way to spend a summer or early fall evening.

Un bar/​resto le long du canal qui ouvre juste comme je n’habite plus dans le coin? C’est presque le même feeling que lorsque mes parents ont transformé ma chambre à couchée en gym. Je suis contente parce que je vais pouvoir y aller en visitant mais aussi un peu triste que le bar n’existait pas quand j’y étais. Quand je suis allée, ils n’y servaient que de la Beau’s en fût mais il y avait aussi du vin dont je né me souviens pas du nom. Le menu est parfait pour y faire une pause car on y suggère plusieurs plats de style «grignotines» selon différents thème dont une assiette méditerranéenne, une à l’indienne, et 3 ou 4 autres. À découvrir avant qu’il fasse trop froid pour en profiter.
