This has been popping up in my Unilocal filter for weeks. With the snow melting, and the roads clear enough that I’m not longer death-gripping my car’s steering wheel in fear, I decided to finally check it out. It’s a short drive off of the area’s main road, and a quaintly scenic one at that. It’s removed just enough to make me feel like I’m close to nature, but still near enough to civilization that I feel like I’m in my element. I did pause when I saw a sign indicating that the country club was just a short walk away. «Oh, no,» I thought, «is it *that* sort of place? Am I underdressed? Am I going to get the once over when I walk in? Do I really care? No. I need coffee. I’m going in.» It’s not at all elitist. The interior is as quaint as the drive up, and the walls of windows and plentiful looks softened my immediate thought that the dining area looked like the place where my sister had her wedding reception in the 1980s. Really, it was very cozy. I showed up in time for a weekday breakfast, and the food was decent. The eggs were a little more cooked than I, personally, prefer, but they weren’t grossly overcooked. The produce within was fresh and just right: cooked, but with that texture that implies most of the nutritional value remains intact. I think the potatoes came from a grocery store’s freezer section, but I kind of like those, so I’m not complaining. Everything was reasonably priced, too: breakfast for two totalled less than $ 20.

Sunday brunch had no food. We made reservations for a 20 group party. There was honestly no food except store bought pastries. No eggs, no bacon and an omelet station with no one at it.

As all may or may not know, Bistro Fifty Four is in the Wildwood Chop house location. I’ve always enjoyed breakfast when Wildwood was here. Since having opened a new restaurant under a new chef and with a new menu, I’ve been here twice for breakfast and both times have enjoyed it. The menu is very basic and the breakfast served is as basic as the two egg breakfast to something fancier a croissant french toast that my wife ordered. My scrambled eggs were like no place I’ve had! Service was great and consistent as I’ve had the same server on several occasions. There is plenty of free parking. Heck go golf nine holes after a yummy breakfast at Amberwood.
