A solid and expansive menu. May be the only Portuguese game in town. The grilled calamari was cooked excellently. I tried the Carne Alentejana as the main course and it was well balanced dish. Not over the top tasty, but reasonable. And relative to other places in the Market, a fair value. The chicken Galiano was superb. Overall, a good dining experience, although slightly pricier than I think it should have been. Nice ambiance for couples. Service is a little sporadic, so be sure to review the menu before hand.

I was a little underwhelmed with my experience at Spiga, the downtown self proclaimed Italian and Portuguese restaurant. I have no problem paying a higher amount for dinner, but expect to receive a meal that is worth the price. The food at Spiga was not by any means bad, but it was not worth the amount that we paid. I walked by Spiga almost every day when I lived in the market, but was surprised to see that there were never many people in the restaurant. Even when we finally did go for dinner, we were the only customers over the 3 hour span that we were there. We had the baked shrimp as an appetizer and it was hands down my favourite part of the meal. Baked to perfection with gorgonzola cheese sauce, it was absolutely delicious. Shrimp? Gooey Cheese? Sign me up, ALWAYS! For my main I had lasagna(which was a special) and my boyfriend had fusilli with sausage and sun dried tomatoes. Maybe were were overly hungry, or maybe our expectations were raised since we were the only people in the restaurant, but it took a long time for our food to come out. When it came, it was good, but nothing exceptional. Our server was a bit surly, and was not interested in offering us drinks or dessert. We felt rushed to get out because it was obvious that they wanted us to leave so that they could go home. I will probably go back to try it again, because I saw so much potential and a lot of people I know have recommended it. Maybe it was just a bad experience.

Not worth the money, overpriced for what you get. Two stars for the decorations of the place, location, and atmosphere

I’ve had their steak in a lemon cream sauce and it’s absolutely awesome. This wasn’t a place I chose and had never heard anything about it before going for a small party. I would recommend Spiga again, especially if you’re hungry and don’t mind paying a little extra for a high quality meal. The service was good but the restaurant was a bit crowded as were our tables but perhaps that was only because it was a very busy night. The bar area was seperate from the restaurant and both were nicely decorated with European art. Be sure to make a reservation and make sure you’re not headed to a show or in a rush because they take their time preparing the food which I didn’t mind since our group was in no hurry.
