This is a pretty tight location, the customer service varies dramatically depending on who’s helping you. The first guy that welcomed me into the store was very friendly and had a big smile, he directed me to another girl as what I was after was behind the counter. This next girl was less than eager to help me out, although she did provide me with the information I asked for, I guess it would have pained her to smile and be polite, as though she worked in CS. Another plus is that this location isn’t far from the ByWard Market which is a nice spot for a walk and a definite spot that needs to be checked out, although as you get further from the market area you do feel the sketchiness of the area. I find the prices competitive and worth stopping by and press your luck with the service.

If you could ever wrap the feeling of buying something from a back of a van in a brick and mortar store, it would be Canada Computers. I have no idea why but CC feels like you’re in the back of a van or moving truck that has all it’s products at «hot» prices. The truth is they have items at «hot» prices but it’s the best damn store to get 95% of your computer and electronic parts. They always have deals; their prices are always highly competitive and the staff are always friendly and helpful. This isn’t the most well stocked CC but it has most of the items you would want. This store is pretty large, unlike the CC at the Pacific Mall in Markham, which is probably the size of the back of a van. Come by and geek up!

I’m a great fan of the many Canada Computers locations in southern Ontario, so when I found myself needing a wireless router as a housewarming gift this past weekend, I was pleased to find they had not one, but two Ottawa locations. This one was fairly close to Byward Market, where we were going anyways, so it won. A note on the location before getting started: the neighbourhood felt a bit sketchier down this end of Rideau than it is closer to the market. It’s not bad, but a consideration depending on how much equipment you’re going to buy. I felt fine, but the contrast was noticeable. Inside, it’s like most Canada Computers locations — lots of stuff about, and now most of it isn’t in locked cases. Let me tell you, not having to track down a sales associate to buy a damned card reader is a more than welcome change from their former way of doing it. All the other Canada Computers benefits — good prices, good selection, great website that actually tells you if the store has any in stock — are the same here as they are at the other stores. The only real differences are somewhat downers — one is that this store felt a good deal messier than other locations. I’m not sure why — the aisles did feel closer together, and the shelves were in a bit of disarray(though not much). The other thing is the exit — very close to the checkout, to the extent where it would be a bit tricky exiting without buying anything if another person was checking out. Probably more a function of the space they’ve got than anything, but something to keep in mind. It would definitely be difficult if the store was busy(as the southern Ontario ones often are). I don’t know what the rest of the parts stores in Ottawa are like, but this is definitely one to check out.
