the food was fantastic. All three of us really enjoyed our brunch and would definitely go back again.

My husband and I had lunch here recently. The food was good, and service started off really good, but then was exceptionally slow. They were completely understaffed for the lunch crowd! This place was really busy. We were there for lunch on a Friday, arrived at noon and there were only 2 tables for 2 that were not already reserved. Luckily we were able to snag one of them. So I guess it’s best to make reservations if you really want to eat here. I had the TAB Sandwich(tomato, avocado and brie) which came with fries and a salad($ 15) and my husband had the Curry Wurst Sausages which also came with fries and a salad($ 13). My TAB sandwich was an open-faced sandwich. It was pretty much guacamole spread on a piece of toast with some sliced grape tomatoes mixed in and then 2 pieces of grilled brie on top. It tasted like it sounds. Ok, but nothing exceptional in my opinion. The fries though were delicious. So crispy and perfectly seasoned(there were spices sprinkled on top) and with the skins on. The salad was fresh and was a real mixed greens salad(not iceberg lettuce) with cucumbers and tomatoes. I had a bite of my husband’s sausage(yeah, sounds obscene I know…). It was basically a bratwurst sausage with a curry flavoured sauce on it. Again, ok, but nothing special in my opinion. When we first arrived, we were greeted and seated right away. They brought us water and menus and took our orders promptly. The food also arrived quickly. However, they never checked up on us and we waited over 20 minutes for the bill. Now the servers were very nice and they were busy running around serving people. It’s not like they were socializing with each other or on their phone or anything like that. They were working hard, but there were only 2 servers for the entire restaurant. This place needs to hire more servers. I guess if you were there for a leisurely lunch and didn’t care about the time this would be fine, but my husband had to get back to work. I would not come back here if I or any of my dining companions were on a schedule. I would only return if we had all day with nothing to do. Décor is really funky and eclectic. As with other restaurants in this area, there is no parking lot, you have to park on the street.

Amazing food! Great look and would highly recommend. I loved the half price wine on Tuesdays. Mussels, spätzle, and grüner wine. :) Will tell people about it :)

Went in here for Sunday brunch. The place was busy, but not crowded; there was no lining up here, but they do take reservations. The service was really excellent, and the server still apologized! We had eggs benny and a spaetzel with a daily crêpe dessert. Everything was just perfect. Even the side salads were plenty tasty! The chef also willingly subbed at our request and added a palenta with cheese better than any I’ve ever had. A++

Located at the north end of Dalhousie in a former Kentucky Fried Chicken building, this newer addition to the area had many first class elements and a few downsides. Let’s start with the positive. There were four of us and we were seated in a booth at the far end of the room. It is as comfortable as sitting on your living room couch, with comfy cushions and a table of perfect height. The service is friendly. We started by sharing an amazing charcuterie plate — four kinds of meat and a wonderful array of sauces, chutneys, pickles and scrumpy bits. Two of us had the duck confit as a main course and the other two had roast lamb shank. Both offerings were delicious, well prepared, seasoned and presented. We then shared a cheese plate that consisted of three very ordinary cheeses, but with a similar assortment of accompaniments like the charcuterie plate. The accompaniments were great, but we were really disappointed in the cheese offerings as there is so many wonderful cheeses to choose from these days — even if you decide to stay local. Three of us had desserts which were OK, but not amazing. The portions are not large, but you end feeling satisfied rather than bloated. Now to the«areas for improvement». The place is very noisy. We had to shout to hear each other — as did everyone else in the room. Although our servers were pleasant, they were run off their feet. They really need to hire one or two more for busy nights. They ran out of coffee cups and I was served my espresso in a water glass. So perhaps they need to hire a dishwasher too. I think that Das Lokal has a lot of potential, but they need to work out some logistical issues in order to reach the next level.

Wonderful! Everything — service, atmosphere, food — was great. I always find it a challenge to find good food when in Ottawa, and Das Lokal is it. Will be back for sure and highly recommend. I was with a group of 9 and everyone enjoyed their meal. I had the confit duck leg, bread dumplings, spiced red cabbage, confit carrots, cherry & pork jam, with duck jus and it was fantastic.

Lunch was served by an attentive and friendly waitress. The cocktails were tasty. A frothy corn chowder with chilli oil drizzle was one of the best soups we had ever tasted in Ottawa. The two main courses of smelt and schnitzel did not disappoint! We will return to sample the supper menu.

Really enjoyed our meal here. The atmosphere was warm and inviting, décor was cool and our server was attentive, very friendly but not pushy. The food was fabulous. I really enjoyed the Halibut and the perogies were delicious

I love the décor here. It looks like the Ikea catalogue version of a restaurant.(This is high praise in my book). Rarely do I even notice the interior of Ottawa restaurants but this place gets me excited about my meal before I have even eaten a bite! Plus, I remember when I was little the building was a KFC so the transformation of the building over time always delights me. The food and service were dynamite both times I visited. Attentive, but not weirdly obsequious. Casual, friendly and well-informed. The food is remarkable. The Crème brulée is wonderful and during both visits I had excellent fish courses.

Been twice and have to say the service is sublime and the food is superb. These folks know who they are and what experience they want to deliver. An early warning to you southern Dalhousie types let me tell you a beer garden will arrive this summer.
