Little Ray’s Reptile Zoo

One weekend I was looking for something to do with my kids. It needed to be something both of them would enjoy — I have a boy and a girl and they are about three years apart in age (7 and 10). It had to be cheap (because sometimes outings can add up) and it had to be close. I asked my brother-​in-​law (an Ottawa native) for some advice. He thought about it for awhile and then suggested Ray’s. I was sceptical at first — the idea of a reptile zoo sounded cheesy and I imagined a tiny place where the animals would be treated as performers and abused. But, happily, Ray’s is not like that. Ray’s is the GREATEST place for kids of all ages. My kids had a great day and experienced some amazing things. First. Ray’s is just outside the city, so it is not a long drive, Next, it is huge and features all kinds of creatures — snakes, lizards, exotic birds, and aligators or crocodiles (I still can’t figure out the difference!). There was this birds of prey show where my son got to don one of those leather gloves and have an eagle fly to him and land on his arm. Then we went in this room to watch a python devour a whole chicken. And, my daughter got to hold a tarantula! We paid only $ 10 a person and had a whole day of fun and memories. If you have kids and you want to take them somewhere where they won’t be jaded or «too cool», you must take them to Little Ray’s. Your kids will be kids again when they mingle with this collection of amazing creatures.
