Verdict: A bit of a change from the old location, but it certainly appears to be a step up. So we had a hankering for some Mongolian Hot Pot, and stopped by the location on the corner of bank street and riverside drive only to realize it had closed. A quick google search showed it is now located on Merivale. Bit of a detour, but we wanted it, so we went anyway. When we arrived, we were told that it had literally opened yesterday, and given that was the case, they seemed well prepared for the lunch rush. If you have been to the old location, which was more interactive, this one is a sit down only, and you do not physically have to get up and go to select your vegetables. Everything is ordered off a «sushi style» paper menu, which you mark up and give to the waitress. My primary, and pretty much only complaint with this, is that if you are a first timer and/or are not familiar with the cuisine and naming conventions, you will likely not recognize half of the items on the menu. Consequently, the size of the portions you order are difficult to determine. Not a big gripe, but a gripe nonetheless. The food itself appeared to be really good quality, and the service was quick and very pleasant. I ordered the«spicy broth» and it was literally the perfect amount of spice. Not flamethrower«sign a waiver» kind of hot, but also not lacking in heat. If you’re looking for something different, and don’t mind experimenting with new types of food, give this place a try. Note: Bring cash. Given it has only been open for literally 2 days, they have not set up debit/credit payment yet, though there is an ATM on site.

Took my friends there for their first time hot pot experience, Good service. my friends are happy. But the desert and the fruit bar are pathetic. I paid a little over $ 100 for 4 of us, not a bad price.

great service. pretty waitress brought up the hotpot before I was done taking off my coat. the sliced lamb melt in my mouth; house made plum juice way better than any coke. has tons of variety of food too cook too. to name a few: seaweeds, soy knot, soy sheets, baby boy choy, mushroom. the soup was less salty than the other little sheep places that I visited. so an extra star for the health conscientiousness. fried steam bums was lovely, too.

I have been chiefly supportive of this place. Whenever we are in town, we made sure to stop by. But our last few pop ins, many things have changed. The self serve pantry had no luncheon meat or quail eggs. We had to ask for the meat. It used to be that after seating, the waitress would ask us: ‘beef or lamb’?. At our last visit, the drink dispensers we’re out of order and they didn’t have Sriracha sauce. Although the many added flaws, I still love the place.

Wish I could give this a no star because it was horrible! Customer service was severely lacking, the food quality and selection were awful. The food products were not fresh and the facility was far from sanitary. I had a groupon and felt like I had been ripped off. Extremely disappointing.

Love this place… very good section of foods to cook. Sometimes the freshness of the food is not on point but I just skip what is not fresh and move on.

As a Chinese, i can say this is the best hotpot place in Ottawa, very authentic. Meat is very delicious, the soup is super super wonderful! I would go for lunch instead of dinner, cheaper and similar kind of food as dinner. Love this place!

We walked in and walked right out, The service was terrible. It was our first time their and didn’t know where to start. Our server wasn’t forth coming to speak english and we had a food allergy we wanted to ask about. I wouldn’t recommend it from a first glance perspective.

I had heard from several different people that Mongolian Hot Pot was amazing, and while I agree it is a must-try, I didn’t share their enthusiasm. Believe me, I love Asian cuisine, and I especially love collaborative Asian cuisine. But I didn’t find the quality and presentation of the food to be outstanding, as well as the sauces available. And the tables are awkward — I find them too wide, so you’re really stretching for the pot. On the plus side, the variety of things you can put in your soup is great. I never thought I would have the chance to eat fungus. The beef and lamb they gave us was really beautiful and fresh. And the staff was attentive: they come around fairly often to refill your pot with broth. I conclude that it’s worth checking out if you have money to burn and want to try something new.

Very nice broth and lots of food options, but for the moderate price, I would expect a cleaner, nicer restaurant. It’s yummy but definitely not a date restaurant.

I love this place! The broth is good. I always took the non-spicy because I prefer to make my own spicy sauce on the side. If you take the spicy one, I think there’s an additional charge. They have a lot of variety of meat, seafood and vegetable. The service is o.k. I find the place a little bit dirty but I don’t mind. Stay away from the soda and soya milk machine… taste funny. Overall, great place! Always a good reason to stop there when I visiting Ottawa.

My girlfriend hasn’t even gotten to pay for the meal and had to visit the bathroom TWICE due to an upset stomach. Her stomach is actually really tough. This pretty much sums it all. It’s extremely noisy and you smell like their hotpot base after you leave, you have to take a shower as soon as you get home. The only things you can eat here without putting your stomach at risk is the meat you buy to take home and cook yourself. Everything else? Try at your own risk.

In China, this is a very famous and nice Hot pot restaurant. So I went there with full of expectation. As usual, not that good! So far, there isn’t even one Chinese restaurant is good enough to let me go back again.

So, the Mongolian Hot Pot is a take on basically Chinese Fondue(i.e. cook a lot of different items in a broth). It’s an all you can eat place so if you have an appetite, you will be able to fill it. There are two(maybe more) types of broth that you can choose, spicy and I guess non-spicy. I had the non-spicy whereas the other half of our party had the spicy. Note: the spicy(a red broth) is spicy! There are numerous items you can choose from the cafeteria style shelves for your hot pot(fish, meat, vegetables) but keep in mind that most of the ingredients are… more Asian oriented(i.e. chicken hearts, fish balls). If that isn’t your style, there are still enough items you can choose to fill your appetite. Personally though I wasn’t a huge fan for a couple of reasons. One, the service was a bit lacking(at least the night we were there). The service was not quick at bringing what we ordered(basically the meat that comes with your broth and later when ordering another drink) and a lot of items were empty on the shelves and they weren’t refilled until almost an hour later(as we were there for almost 2 hours). Two, the ingredients used aren’t exactly fresh. Everything except the vegetables are frozen and left on the shelves to thaw or you cook from frozen in your broth. I guess this is the most practical way to do it but I can’t help but prefer to do something like this at home with fresh ingredients. Third, due to the way the ingredients are set up on shelves with tongs that are left in the ingredients sometimes, I worried a bit about the hygiene aspect. I’m sure they could find a better way to keep the food.(Two days later though and no reaction but still…). All in all, I don’t think I would go back but don’t regret going.

Great broth, both spicy and regular. All you can eat offers a huge selection of stuff to put in your hot pot. At least 2 types of noodles, 2 types of mushrooms, pork, chicken, tofu, shrimp, seaweed, broccoli, lamb meatballs, beef tendon ball, fish balls, shrimp balls, bamboo, ginger, and the list really does go on and on and on

Nice place for large-sized groups as the restaurant is quite spacious — I came here with a party of 8. The broth — we got the spicy and the non-spicy… of course, I always prefer spicy. I liked that it wasn’t TOO spicy and the broth wasn’t filled with all of those herbs to the point where you’re eating herbs with a side of food. The food — self serve… strange. You basically bring your plate up to this supermarket-looking refrigerated shelf thing and pick out as much of whatever you want to eat. The freshness of the meat and seafood was a bit questionable, but the veggies were just fine. I liked that they did have a rather large variety of things to choose from, but thought it was weird that people could just go digging in it themselves. Drinks are self-serve as well. Dessert… I’d skip if I were you. The service — what service? Everything is do-it-yourself. Beware, if you waste food, I think they charge for over 200 g or something like that…

$ 3 pint of carlsberg? Daddy likes !!! I actually really enjoy this hot pot compared to Hong Kong style hot pot places in Toronto. The soup bases are extremely flavourful, but be forewarned, you will reek after. So be sure to wear bum clothes and don’t make any plans to be in the public after dinner. The lamb and Beef takes about 20 – 30 seconds to cook, when it’s not red, it’s done. Pretty much anything else from the buffet bar I cook for at least 5 minutes. I didn’t give it a 5 because places in Toronto will give you lobster and oysters as well.
