It has the basics, so it gets the job done. But it’s also abhorrently expensive. Mark-ups are routinely a dollar or two more than other markets. I mean, some of these prices would make even Whole Foods at Lansdowne blush. Silly amount of money for food basics. Bus down to either the Independant on Bank or at Billings Bridge instead. It’s worth the money

I have been to this store several times and still do. Very impressed with the recent renos. They have really done a good job to brighten the place up. New produce fridges, new freezers, all new floors, new paint, new shelving, expanded organic and natural food lineup. They really went all out and I think it works. If you have not been in this metro in a while you will definitely notice a difference and it definitely makes for a nicer shopping experience. Prices for the most part are reasonable, but I do find the egg prices here a bit pricey, I can find organic eggs quite a bit cheaper elsewhere. They do offer a good lineup of local products(from frozen meals to sweets to sauces) it is really nice to see the store incorporate that into their selection. Great to see local businesses working together.

Grossly overpriced, small chain grocery store. The place is clean, well-lit, and has mostly what you’d expect out of a grocery store– just be prepared to pay more.

Perhaps this is a letter better left for management. This past weekend, I was in Metro with my partner, and we were able to find almost every item on our list, despite what feels like a comparatively small-sized store. But what horrified me was the check-out staff member whose name, if memory serves, is Julie. I had perhaps one-quarter of the $ 135.00 cart-worth on the belt when she tossed — and I do mean tossed — the divider, which landed somewhere on top of our groceries and my hand.(I had trouble believing this was not deliberate, given that she was able to speak and process at least the bare minimum.) When she came to the apple pie, she tipped it immediately at a 45-degree angle, barely acknowledging that I had asked her to leave the pie with me. Then, when I went to pay with bank + air miles cards, she tossed — and I mean tossed — the Air Miles card across the belt toward me, not really caring where it landed. I then asked to purchase a $ 100.00 Metro card, which seemed to throw her into an odd state of flummox mixed with indifference. And after I paid for this, she tossed the(which is difficult, given the light weight) receipt in my direction, which was within easy arm’s reach. Appalling. I am used to neighbourhoods, and people, that deem themselves superior to others. But the check-out girl at this Metro was so beyond any behaviour I have seen in this(or any) civilized part of the city, I didn’t know whether to ask for the manager or to laugh. Either way, we won’t be back — not as long as staff members like Julie work there.

This is not the store to buy the 24-roll pack of toilet paper but for a small store that knows and caters to its Glebian customers, MG does very well. Somehow they manage to stock basic groceries and keep prices reasonable, at least on store brands, while catering to organic/vegetarian/locavore/gluten-free/ethnic tastes. I am very picky about fruit and veg and MG meets the mark in terms of quality and variety. The cheese and dairy section is well stocked and I always enjoy my stroll down the breads/bakery/deli section. The best/most surprising part of MG is that the staff are really attentive and well trained. They make eye contact, have a bit of chat, and get the job done. More impressive is the fact that because this dinky store doesn’t have room for you to push the Lilliputian carts past the cashiers’ stands, you are instructed to push them back out into the aisle(by the chocolate bars). Somehow, there is always a staffer there to collect them and the practice does not vex folks waiting in line behind.(Also, they tend to open enough cash registers to keep lines quite short.) As a bonus, there is a produce lady with a beautiful voice. If you’re lucky, you’ll come by while she’s belting out a few tunes.

Hmmph. They do have a great selection and some interesting specialty foods all packed into one wee space. Some highlights include their coffee selection and their breads(Artisan Bakery! Yes!). However, super pricey. To be expected I guess since it’s both Metro and in the Glebe, but I still get grumpy every now and then about their prices. That being said, I can still get in and out of there with minimal shopping sacrifices for about $ 40/week versus maybe $ 30-$ 35 at Food Basics.

If you’re looking for Loeb Glebe, this is it, just with different name. All the Loeb’s changed to Metros, so this is now officially the Metro Glebe, but it’s still the same store, but looks more updated. This definitely wouldn’t be my favorite grocery store to shop at, since it’s small and can be a bit more expensive, but I really, really love that they have delivery! It’s not the cheapest, but it can be incredibly convenient. I used to use their delivery grocery service when it was terribly cold outside and I didn’t have a car. You can buy your groceries there and head home, and they’ll just deliver your groceries at a set time later that day. You can also order online! You can view the flyer online and search for items, add them to your virtual shopping basket, enter your contact and delivery information, and select your method of payment and delivery time. It’s all very simple and easy to get the hang of, and it’s especially great for students and those that pay with Interac.

In a nutshell(aisle three) this place is small, pricey but offers a lot of variety. If you don’t mind paying a bit more for your groceries and having the trade off being that they have more options, especially a lot of organic and specialty choices then there’s nothing to complain about at this Glebe grocery store. The place recently underwent a face lift and that’s exactly what it was — they updated the exterior and the entrance but the rest of the store stayed the same as they have little room to work with inside. Despite the small size the store is laid out well and you feel like you’re in a family run place instead of a chain supermarket(this store is actually both — a family runs this Loeb location). The checkouts can get really crowded especially on busy weekends but just be patient as the staff move you through there quickly. This location also offers delivery for a relatively low cost. Loeb is a popular place for those who live in the Glebe so don’t be too annoyed if you find a lot of people in the aisles just standing around visiting. Their bakery makes excellent cakes too!

Considering its size, the Glebe Loeb has a good selection and not just the essentials. They have a great produce section, although they sometimes lack in fresh herbs. They also have a hefty organic section and lots of vegetarian«meat» in various sections of the store. If you prefer your food to be already prepared, whether that be a frozen meal or in the deli, you may find this grocery store lacking in variety. The deli is decent, but not as great as other Loeb delis. The frozen food section is also puny. But if you prepare your own recipes, this store will rarely lack in ingredients. However, the prices at this store, which is owned by a couple named McKeen, are notoriously higher than other grocery stores. Perhaps it’s due to the location since the Glebe is a pricey neighbourhood and there isn’t much grocery store competition in the area. I also constantly notice that the staff are pretty explicit in front of customers. I don’t mind this, but I’m aware that this displays a lack of professionalism. The staff banter around customers about personal stuff in their lives, but that’s not really something that would ever concern me. What does concern me is over the years I’ve seen dozens of arguments between staff and many displeased employees. Perhaps this is due to bad treatment by management rather than the smaller possibility that they keep hiring pre-disgruntled people.

Great grocery store, lots of organic produce and and specialty foods. The bakery and cold counter have a good selection, Even though this is a small store, it’s a great one.
