I can’t believe this place isn’t already listed on Unilocal! Then again, I couldn’t believe I had never been here either. To be fair, I’ve pretty much always been a west end girl, and there’s plenty of parks there, so n never thought to venture to Petrie Island. All I knew is that they had a big Canada Day festival. Noah K and I decided to come here for him to practice his open water swimming for a triathlon. Even though it was a cold and cloudy day I couldn’t help but be caught up with the place. Two beaches are on the island, both beautifully maintained. One is larger and opens up to a bigger part of the river(we saw dragon boaters practicing here!). The second is smaller and surrounded by rock steps which are the perfect place to watch the river. There’s plenty if grassy space here for sports and picnicking, and while I didn’t get it out, they have a canteen and also rent kayaks and canoes! I can’t wait to come back here and picnic. I’ll definitely be spending more time here in the future. It’s really more of a 4.5. The only reason I didn’t give it five was the amount of goose poop and the fact that dogs aren’t allowed on the grassy areas. Otherwise, this place is amazing. Note: They don’t allow dogs here, on or off leash.
