The purple building: very glad it had a vegetarian option for my brother. The food was great, fast, tended beef. Spring rolls were a bit too greasy– they should pay the grease off more thoroughly. And I can sense they are previously frozen which sucks. They need to keep their standards high– my glass of water had ALOT of soap foam on the top. Couldn’t drink that obviously! And had some leftover rice on my plate– from the dishwasher. Cash only. Delicious food here and at the older non updated building beside

The XL size phở here is huge and as someone else said big enough for 2. If you are not aware there are 2 phở bo ga 2 locations they are beside each other in Chinatown. My review reflects the purple one. The staff is friendly and the soups are tasty and come quickly. Ask for the spice bowl if you want to kick it up a notch.

Unilocal has the hours wrong, this place is open 10 am to 5 am I love this place, it’s cheap tasty and if you get the XL bowl of phở it’s enough for 2 adults. Honestly we’ve never ordered anything other than the phở so I have no idea if the other stuff is good but I’m good getting number 13XL every time. Cash only, no credit, no debit but they have an ATM

This place is absolutely disgusting, there’s bags of road salt stashed beside the dishes. We asked for two soups and two smoothies, the lady that made our smoothies was using a spoon that she was licking while making the smoothie, and using it again to mix the smoothie, when confronted about it she denied it. And when we asked to leave she tried to make us pay for the food we never even touch. Place is an absolute disgrace. I do not recommend this place to anyone.

Great food! It tastes very good and it’s prepared very quickly. The dining area is a little ghetto. It’s definitely not the strong point of this restaurant. However, the food definitely compensates for the atmosphere! The prices are reasonable. The staff does not seem to speak English so be patient when dealing with them. Overall, it’s a great place to eat a quick and healthy dish with an authentic flavor.

Don’t be fooled by the other 100 phở places with the same name on Somerset, this place has the best phở in Ottawa! I’ve been a loyal customer since my underaged clubbing days in Hull. Suprisingly, the long trek from the Quebec side seemed fairly short when drunk, and this place was always one of the only places that would be open in the wee hours of the morning. The Phở Tai always hits the drunk and sober spot! Great prices too for the phở, and huge portions. The small is enough to make you want to loosen your pants(without feeling super guilty the day after). My sober self usually comes to this place whenever I feel under the weather, because the super hot soup really helps to open your sinuses up and makes you feel better ASAP. The phở also comes with complimentary tea, and bean sprouts and herbs. Really cheap and delicious. Only downfalls are that: cash is required(there’s an ATM machine inside), and that the place is really tiny and old, so it looks unclean. Other than that, this place becomes an addiction. Go now and get your phở fix at this place!

Was very impressed with the tendon, tripe and brisket phở. Excellent quality meat, flavorful broth, although the herbs offered were less than fresh. Cash only!

Ok the fact that all the phở places in Chinatown are named something so similar is extremely annoying but whatever, I’m pretty sure this place is the one on Somerset and Rochester open until 5AM. Sorry to give it a poor review when everyone supposedly loves it so much but that’s what I’m doing. I’m hoping my review isn’t skewed by the fact I came here at 2AM, however the time didn’t appear to affect anyone’s opinion judging by who was in the restaurant, it was almost at full capacity. I went with the basic rare beef phở, and an order of spring rolls and a jack fruit shake. I know of a few places in the city that are cash only but also do credit cards(Zak’s being the first one that comes to mind), so I asked if they took mastercard. The waitress rolled her eyes and pointed to a sign that said«Cash Only». On my part, yeah it was stupid that I didn’t see that sign. On her part, she could have easily just have said«cash only» instead of being rude about it. I got my jack fruit shake on the way out, to my disappointment the take out cup she gave me was only half full of the shake. I noticed immediately that there were huge chunks of jackfruit in the shake. Jackfruit is kind of weird, and if you don’t know much about it, sometimes it can be used in vegetarian cooking because the texture is strangely identical to chicken. So, biting into sweet chunks of what seems like chicken isn’t very appetizing, call me crazy. The soup itself was watery and it wasn’t great. I didn’t get a chili or any cilantro and a very small amount of hoisin, so the seasonings she gave me didn’t help the broth much. Aside from the sriracha and lime I put in my broth I couldn’t taste a distinct rich, salty beef flavor I usually can in other phở soups. The beef was fattier than usual at most other phở places and I ended up picking a lot of it out. I know some people prefer their meat fattier, so the restaurant might have done this purposely? Dunno. Either way, I didn’t bother finishing it and I ended up throwing quite a bit of it out. The spring rolls were unremarkable. They put a lettuce leaf in the take out container which isn’t a great idea because one of the spring roll was stuck to the leaf and was soggy. Maybe I’ll come back in the day, but with much better options in Chinatown I doubt that.

This is our go to place for a Phở lunch, some weeks we are here 2 or 3 times. The broth is excellent and they are generous with the meat. I like the P30, chicken, beef, and a semi-hard boiled quail egg. Most of my co-works like the P1, the most basic rare beef in noodle. Don’t forget to order some spring rolls when you go, I prefer the shrimp but the pork is excellent too. All homemade, as you watch the staff make the spring rolls and wontons.

I sceptically went here for dinner with a friend on his insistance. This is a very unpretentious and lets not worry about customer service type of place. This is a family owned business and they have another restuarant with the same name with the prefix ‘new’ just across the street! They have a wide selection of phở bowls and vermicelli. You write your order on a piece of paper and hand it to the server. The food arrived fast and the complimentary tea is always a plus. I got the regular beef phở with extra meat… yes you can get extra meat for an extra buck. The broth was delicious. The spring rolls were good too. They are open till early morning which makes it a good place for late nite grub. Has one of the better Vietnamese food in the city. Cash Only policy though!

My favourite place for phở in all of Ottawa. Sure, there are others… but they don’t compare to Phở Bo Ga 2. Phở Bo Ga 2 is open 10am — 5am seven days a week, and food is always fresh, plentiful and delicious. 50 soups, 10 specials/sides, and about 10 beverages. Service is always nice and includes free jasmine tea and cilantro/basil/lime/mung bean sprout garnishes. They have some reserved parking right next to the building but there are usually streetside spots available. Last visit I had #4 beef phở large, my friend had chicken egg noodle soup and we shared some veggie spring rolls. Under $ 10 pp soup only, probably $ 15 – 18 or so if you order a drink and special. I give 4⁄5 stars and the only thing keeping me from 5 is CASHONLY policy and the fact that sides/specials are a tad pricey.
