Ruby King Restaurant

Ruby King is one of the few Chinese buffets in Ottawa. Its food has always been delicious and affordable, exactly what I’d expect from a Chinese buffet. Yes, the décor is dated, but it’s not a deal-​breaker for going there.

Oh Ruby King… This is the place my family used to always take me throughout the years as I grew up. It’s had it’s good moments but this place is in DIRE NEED of a facelift.
As you walk through the doors of this very tired restaurant, you’re blasted back into 1990 as the chairs and tables and carpets are so old. Can’t forget to mention that you can even see the stains and the wear and tear on the carpets where people walk the most. Not the best atmosphere if I do say so myself.
There’s not much selection for a Chinese buffet either. Only one aisle of dishes (two sided), a carving station, and a dessert aisle. Greasy food, bleh.
Funny yet not so appealing story though. This one time, as my mom, brother and I were wrapping up, and about to devour our dessert, my brother pulls up a piece of jello *wait for it…* with a FLY right in the MIDDLE of the jello cube. How on earth does that even happen? We laughed it off but that’s pretty nasty if you ask me.
The last time I was there, they attempted to seat my family in an area that hadn’t been cleaned, and looked like someone had a food fight on the ground beneath the tables. Can’t you clean up after your guests have left?
In any case, I won’t be back here until something’s changed. Renovations are certainly needed and their cleanliness policies should be reviewed.
I don’t even want to know what their kitchen looks like…
