It’s ok, but by far the most expensive of the top-your-own yogurt places. It’s better than Miss Yogurt, but that’s not saying much. They made it all low fat, which means more additives and crap to make up for the loss of fat. This was the most artificial tasting of all the top-your-own places I’ve been too. Also, I had to leave because they started cleaning the floor with Mr Clean which I am allergic to, and was swollen for a week from it. Why can’t you use Lysol? It had a nice interior though.

It’s refreshing to see such friendly staff and a great product all in one. It might be a little expensive side, but they make up for it with a nice patio in the heart of the market.

Great quality froyo! I used to visit with my friends a lot, great selection of Froyos. The toppings are pretty good too, they also have sprinkles n fudge syrup! Great environment and seating arrangement(could be expanded though). Only downside is that it’s a little further down byward market, and abut pricey as compared to Menchies that’s inside the market.

It’s not bad, a little pricey though. The good news is that they give points, so about 10 fro-yo’s later you get a free one.

My friend wanted to come here so we did. We weren’t as impressed! I was expecting a bigger variety of flavors. I wanted mango flavored but they had none. Also being able to sample the flavors would’ve been great but we didn’t have that option. Am I gonna go back? Most likely not :/

Yum! I love the idea of self serve froyo! Yogen Fruz doesn’t have enough toppings for me to go crazy with, but this place does! I know self serve froyo is a pretty common things in other cities, and I got hooked on the idea of it in Montréal after visiting one of the many frozen yogurt places there. Sooo glad Ottawa has caught on! So you get a cup, you fill it up with as much or as little yogurt as you would like, and then basically go crazy with the toppings. They have a good selection of different types of yogurt, which includes: original tart(fruity tasting), vanilla, chocolate, cheesecake, strawberry etc. I tried a combo of tart, vanilla, and cheesecake. They have 40 different toppings for you to experiment with, some of the ones that stood out for me were the oreo pieces, skor pieces, FRUITBOBBA, fruit of every sort, gummy bears etc. Please try the fruit bobba. Please. They’re essentially explosions of fruit deliciousness. I filled my cup up ¾ of the way, it came to about $ 7, which isn’t really bad depending on how much I got and how many toppings I threw on it. I can’t wait to go back!

I am a fan of the fro-yo invasion and am pretty stoked to have one in Ottawa finally. This place is pretty nifty – there is pink everywhere, so prepare your eyes. There is a pretty decent array of yogurt flavours and toppings. I liked that there were three different cup sizes to help with portion control. It’s fun to come up with different combinations– it was a bit like going to bulk barn when you’re a kid! The only thing that was disappointing was that you can’t sample the yogurt first. When I’ve been to fro-yo places elsewhere there are mini-dishes, like you’d put ketchup in, to help you decide what flavours to choose.

I just tried this place yesterday and it is so amazing. You serve yourself and then the price is based on the weight. I think it’s like $ 0.59 an ounce or something like that. Sounds cheap, but it isn’t. A small modest sized portion will run you around $ 6. I tried the red velvet frozen yogurt, which was so delicious. Tasted like red velvet cake. Some flavours are«low fat» and the red velvet was one of them(although it didn’t taste low fat, it was rich and yummy). I think the other one was watermelon. They have a bunch of toppings that you can choose from. They have the usual sprinkles, oreo cookie crumbs, smarties, Reeces pieces, etc. but also some unusual ones like mochi pieces and boba. I tried the mochi pieces which were so soft and chewy and taste like the ones imported from Japan. The boba came in several flavours. I tried the Litchi ones(they also had strawberry and other flavours that I forget). I initially thought that the boba were tapioca pearls(like in bubble tea), but they were even more awesome. They were these unusual balls of thin jelly with flavourful liquid inside that burst when you bite into them. Some people may not like them because they look a little like fish eggs and the texture is weird, but I loved them. The liquid inside tasted like Litchi juice! If you like bubble tea or the long gone Orbits drink of the 1990s, you’ll like the boba. They also had fruit toppings if you want to be more healthy. And also crêpe pieces. What a great new asset to the Byward Market! Update: They have a rewards card now. You get $ 5 off your next purchase after you make 9 purchases(doesn’t matter how much you spend for each purchase, you get 1 stamp per purchase).

I can not believe our luck in finding this place! It made for a great end to our evening. On the way to dinner at Cornerstone I noticed an unfamiliar storefront on Clarence — a bright pink sign, and locals sitting outside eating out of neon bowls. Could it really be? Has Ottawa finally jumped on the fro-yo train?! SUCCESS! Spoon is not only Ottawa’s first frozen yogurt shop, but also an amazing food experience from start to finish. After our dinner at Cornerstone(more disappointing news on this in my next review), I convinced my crew to skip dessert at Cornerstone and head just down teh street tp see what this«frozen yogurt lounge» had to offer. Admittedly my hope weren’t too high — I expected something similar to Pure Gelato or another ice cream shop. WRONG!(And pleasantly so!) Almost as soon as we stepped inside this funky, fluorescent space we were greeted by a lovely young woman who asked us if this was our first time visiting. When she heard that indeed, it was, she dove into a well-articulated spiel about the process: Spoon is a self-serve, choose-your own frozen yogurt with a dozen flavors ranging from Canadian Maple to Red Velvet(low fat!), with classics like pistachio, mango and chocolate thrown in for good measure. The hostess kindly let us know that the yogurt price depends on the weight, and that most people only fill their cups up ¾ of the way full then add toppings. I decided to go for half Red Velvet, half Coconut and wandered over to the toppings. AH! They have about 40 different kinds including brownie chunks, Reese chunks, cheesecake, animal crackers, fresh fruit, sprinkles, and a bunch of candies. this was dangerous for me since I was always the kid who put way too many toppings on her sundae and then couldn’t tell what kind of ice cream it was anymore. Oh well! My inner child sprinkled a bit of shredded coconut, some cookie dough chunks, Reese, Sweedish Berries and blueberries. Yes, I realize this probably sounds disgusting but it was AMAZING. After a chat with the charming owner, he disclosed that the hostess was his daughter, and that they’ve been around for about a month. He seemed genuinely excited about the business and his daughter, as well as the cashier Tessa, were absolute dolls. We also noticed a crêpe iron(YES!), and the owner let us know waffles are coming soon! My boyfriend and I both filled our bright bowls to the very top and it came to about $ 16 each which I think was very fair. We also vowed to make it a regular date spot and try as many combinations as possible!(Yes, we’re lame. Don’t hate!) We decided to stick around and chat, and I’m so glad we did. The atmosphere is super fun and relaxing — there’s some beautiful chairs, seating cubes that change colour and some tables if you’re with a big group. We settled into a little raised space that looked onto the street and thoroughly enjoyed our stay. We were told that a local knitting club has made Spoon their weekly hangout — too fun! They have a cute little nook where you can sit with one other person — cute date idea! I’m so thrilled this place has opened and think this is just what the Market needs. Two of my cousins that came along are from Texas, and both mentioned that the frozen yogurt trend has definitely taken off in the States. Spoon hits the nail on the head in terms of customer service, innovation and general yuminess. I can’t wait for our next trip!
