I had my wedding reception at Table 40 recently after falling in love with the space. The space was quaint and beautifully decorated. The food was AMAZING! Every single bite of our meal was delicious and our guests left raving about it. Tristan helped us coordinate every aspect of the dinner and answered every question we had which put us at ease. The prices were also reasonable. I gave this place 4 stars only because of the following: 1– it was warm and I don’t think the AC was on, 2– I wish we could have moved the extra tables elsewhere(but I get it that they are heavy and there is no real storage area) so that prevented us from having extra little space 3– I thought we were going to have 2 staff(1 server, 1 at bar) and we only had 1 server. Our group was only 18 people but I think it was busy enough to warrant a second server which would have made things go a little faster and smoother. Our server was nice though and worked hard to ensure we had a great night. If I was to give stars only based on food, this place is a 5 out of 5. Portions are a little small but with a 3 course meal I was stuffed and every bite was so good. Overall super happy we had our wedding reception here and would highly recommend it for any group or wedding for 40 people or less.

I recently came to Table 40 for a dear friend’s wedding dinner, and had a fantastic time. I’d been hearing rave reviews for this place, and have heard nothing but high praise regarding Fraser Café, so I was really excited to attend. For those who don’t know, Table 40 is attached to Fraser Café, one of the city’s most loved restaurants. When the space next door became available the owners purchased it as an extension of their restaurant for private dinner parties(weddings, anniversaries, etc.). They are also open on Mondays for dinner, and I feel like that would be an awesome experience. When we walked in there was a small seating area where people were waiting. We walked past a funky red tapestry into the dining area, and it looked just lovely! The seating is communal, and we had enough for 20 people. The design is very modern with Edison bulbs and the like. There was enough room for the dinner table and a large table for gifts and the apps and cake, which was perfect. Note that if you’re looking for a venue with dancing space, this isn’t it. There’s a small, well stocked bar at the back on the dining room, and rest rooms in the back. Now, on to the food. We were greeted with some delicious amuse bouche treats: a bite of steak that was perfectly cooked and seasoned, shrimp in a red sauce with corn and lentils and a vegetarian option which I didn’t get to try. It was the perfect start to the meal and was divine! We were then offered wine, which ended up being a bit confusing for a couple of us who requested a sweet white. The server explained to us that they only bring over what the bride and groom requested, and that he could not get a different kind from next door. Nevertheless, he found us a great white that, while not super sweet like a Riesling or Muscato, totally did the trick! We had a choice of appetizer, main, and dessert, and I chose the tomato cucumber salad, Cornish hen and for dessert, the apple fritters with raspberry coulis. Every dish was spectacular, but I particularly loved the Cornish hen which was covered in a curry coconut sauce and served with seasonal veggies. Yum! The apple fritters were also unbelievable, and rank as one of my favourite desserts ever. So why not five stars? The temperature was uncomfortably warm, which could have been due to the candles and amount of people, but event venues should know to crank the AC when they have a group of people there, especially in formal attire. I also felt like the server/host was a bit overwhelmed with a table of 20, and could have used a bit of help. He did his absolute best(he even carried around the baby of the group while cleaning up!) but I think things would have run smoother with a second employee. Overall, this is a warm and welcoming place for a special dinner, and the food is absolute quality. Note that the portions are on the smaller side, so this might not be the place to bring someone with a big appetite. I loved the portion sizes though, and was pleasantly stuffed after dessert. Consider booking this place for a special dinner. It will especially delight foodie friends!
