Had the worst experience at the Foolish Chicken tonight. The server kept bringing 3 of everything for our party of 4. She brought the wrong wine for one of the guess(white wine when red was ordered). My wife’s food was cold and when we mentioned it to to server she said great and walked away! We definitely won’t be back.

When in the Wellington Village area with my wife one afternoon, we were looking for a laid back place to have lunch and I came across the Foolish Chicken in my interweb research. It comes across as a Swiss Chalet with a more local, less corporate feel to it. The menu is focused on chicken and ribs, but with some more unique menu items and less of a cookie cutter décor. The pork riblets, Dr. Pepper pulled chicken sandwich and daily quiche are some of the more interesting items, while things like poutine, onion rings and a cheeseburger are standbys for the less adventurous. The riblets were especially tempting, but I wanted to see what their namesake protein was like, so I went with their quarter chicken meal, choosing dark meat, and baked beans as my side. There were a few other tables occupied when we were there, but most were already eating so it didn’t take long for our food to arrive. My plate seemed a little on the empty side as the large plate had a not particularly large drumstick and thigh, and the cornbread was just a mini-muffin. That said it was still an alright deal for $ 12, but needs some plating refinement. The beans on the other hand were very plentiful, filling up a good-sized casserole dish that dominated the plate. They were tasty as well, with a strong flavour of cloves, which my wife helped me identify. Not a traditional BBQ profile, but it was earthy and hearty and the beans themselves were cooked perfectly as well. I don’t know if my chicken was foolish, but I certainly wasn’t for buying it. Tender and moist, the slightly smoky and sweet sauce kicked up the flavour a notch. The coleslaw was nice and crunchy from the dominant cabbage and had an extra pop on the tastebuds from what may have been celery seed. The cornbread was okay, and although it was quite cute, it was disappointingly small. We were in and out quicker than expected, which was good for further strolling around the area. It’s hard not to like a place with a name like The Foolish Chicken, especially when they’re serving up solid food at decent prices. Hopefully I can stop by again in the future to try out some of those appetizing sounding apps.

Dont be fooled by the name, they also serve ribs. I Went here with some friends for dinner and was not sure what to expect. We’ve seen the reataurant whenever the bus drives by but have never tried it until the other day. The place felt very homey and our server was very nice. We all ordered the quarter chicken with different sides. My chicken was very delicious. Usually when you go to the chain restaurants the chicken was not cleaned very well and there is alot of fat and excess parts but this chicken was juicy and the bbq sauce… Mmmmmm finger lickin good. We also ordered dessert. I got the ebony and ivory cheesecake. When I first received it it looked very sweet. However, after I took my first bite it was the right sweetness. If your looking for a homey comfort food sort of vibe you should give the place a try. I would definitely recommend it. P. S. The minus one star was for because it was abit slow to get our food. But the place was very busy. We snagged the last table.

Fantastic! It’s the high end swiss chalet. Chicken is to die for and the price is very reasonable. Large portions don’t hurt…

Have eaten here several times always asking for items on the menu that are gluten and dairy free. The food is always excellent with loads of flavour. Recently, I tried the gluten free chicken fingers which were also great. The only thing I would add is I wish they offered a larger selection of alcoholic cider and gluten free deserts. Not a fan of Strongbow and would like to see Angry Orchard or Woodchuck even the local ciders would be good. We’ll definitely be returning.

Family rotisserie chicken joint that also has ribs and a few other things. We drove out specifically because this is one one of the few places to supposedly offer GF poutine. However, when we got there, they couldn’t guarantee that the fryer hadn’t been used with non-GF ingredients. Quite a few options if you are gluten sensitive, but not celiac. A salad was fine, but not special. Service wasn’t quite hostile, but not warm either.

Stopped here after the opening day of the women’s World Cup. My wife, daughter, and I split the ribs and half chicken combo. The ribs were fall off the bone good and the chicken was succulent. My daughter also ordered a side of fries with gravy. The fries were delicious and the gravy was some of the best we ever had. We came in close to closing time and Bridget, the owner’s daughter, was extremely welcoming and did not rush us at all. She was pleasant, engaging, and added to our positive experience. This place is outside the center of the city in a neighborhood setting. Our only regret is that we did not take some cheesecake to go. It is well worth the trip and we will go back again when in the area. You won’t go wrong stopping here for food.

Decent chicken, Causal service. Onion rings were good but out of place for 10.98 a small serving for 8 or so rings.

I came here for lunch with a group of 6. I tried their BBQ chicken wrap and was pleasantly surprised that it was full of BBQ flavour! It may have been the most flavorful wrap I’ve ever had. There is a generous amount of chicken and the large side of fries is sure to fill you up(you have the option of salad, fries or upgrade to sweet potato fries). Without the upgrade, it’s $ 10.99, not a bad price. It’s a very casual sit down restaurant. There were quite a few people who were dining alone for a quick lunch. I was drawn in by their quirky name and was glad I tried it but it wasn’t special enough for me to go back again without trying the other restaurants in the neighborhood first.

Update: I’ve been back several times since my original post. I just wanted to say that the Dr. Pepper chicken sandwich — so good! It’s very messy to eat. I tried to eat with my hands and had to abandon the idea for a knife and fork. It’s saucy, tender, juicy, and just amazing. I ordered a salad as the side and the dressing was exceptionally yummy. I was licking my plate by the end of the night. I honestly believe you can’t go wrong with ordering anything off this menu!

Friday night dinner at 7:30 after a big rush Poppy had the Chicken Fingers and they were ok but Fries were soggy Wife had the Dr. Pepper Pulled Chicken and she found it too sweet and a bit much sauce I had Rings(all onions were thick and meaty but almost to much onion if you know what I mean) ¼ Chicken & ¼ Ribs w/Mashed was main and it was just ok the dark meat was juicy but the bad was the skin was not crispy and the mashed was poor… Ribs were good but you needed to add the sauce All in all it was not as good as people had noted and we will not be in a rush to head back Service was good but they were just coming off a big dinner rush and something was missing

Andrea B brought me to this cozy, little house restaurant for a delightful late lunch and I was really happy about that. Looking over the menu I had a tough time deciding what to order — Should I go for Foolish Wings and sweet potato fries? Dr. Pepper Pulled chicken? Pulled Pork? Arggghhh! So many delicious sounding items! But, in the end I was an American in Canada so I ordered La Poutine(fries with cheese curds and their with chicken gravy) and I had absolutely no regrets. The service was super friendly and the food was good so I would definitely be happy to return again if I were in the area!

We love this place. The service is really friendly, in fact, the owner often waits tables. His wife makes all of the cheesecakes which are absolutely amazing. The chicken is delicious, especially the homemade sauce. They also have a delicious homemade chipotle sauce for their potatoes. This is our go-to place for a family meal. Well priced, friendly. They also do pick up orders, so we now often pick up a full chicken meal to share between 4 of us at home! Again, well priced and delicious, even comes with salad. They are eco-friendly, which is why they don’t include utensils and other items unless you ask. Most of the containers they use are fully compostable.

I followed another Unilocaler to this place and it did not disappoint! I got the chicken and rib. Nice big plate of food. The chicken is well seasoned and the meat falls off of the bones very easily. I was quite full from the meal. If your coming Friday night better have reservation or expect a wait.

Excellent chicken and ribs joint, one of my favourite places in the area. Last time I went I had a combo of chicken and ribs, the chicken was moist and tender while the ribs were really flavourful. I found the BBQ sauce to be very powerful, a bit too overwhelming for my tastes, but this is a minor complaint. My meal came with a Caesar salad and a pint of Beau’s,(they get brownie points for having local beer on draught, although they only have 2 taps). My girlfriend had a pulled pork sandwich that she really enjoyed, and the price isn’t bad either. Last time we went the place was empty as it was Sunday night, but our service was very good and the atmosphere is really nice with some really cool art on the walls. Overall a great little place.

This place is just as awesome as I remember! It had been a few years since I’d been here, so when Tiffany N and I were in the ‘hood, I thought we should come in here for lunch and see if it was as good as I remember. I ordered my favourite dish — the Dr. Pepper pulled chicken sandwich with sweet potato fries on the side. The sandwich was divine. Juicy and saucey and perfect! It was so filling I couldn’t finish the giant mound of sweet potatoes! I did however, manage to sample some of Tiffany’s poutine which was made with wedges and was yummy! I love the atmosphere here and the staff are just great. I see absolutely no reason not to bump them up to a five star — love these guys!
