The Rex

Lovely little spot. Food and service were both excellent so we will be back.
I do have to say that the set dinner, while delicious, had very small portions.
We were both still hungry, and seriously considered ordering another «dinner» to share!
Instead, we went home and made omelettes!
Perhaps providing bread to start would help.
And no, we are not over-​weight over-​eaters! :)

I’ve been here twice. The 2^nd time was for our Christmas party. I had the grilled striploin steak with crispy potato frites and sauteed oyster mushrooms, leeks, baby spinach which was a truly excellent steak. The chef butchers his own meat (which he orders) and I guess he knows what he’s doing. It’s rare I get a steak I like and this hit the spot. Comparable to Sterling in Gatineau (well, it’s been a long time since I went to Sterling and they are steak specialists so probably not as good but matched my memory of Sterling’s steak).
My appetizer was triple cream brie cheese with duck prosciutto, maple fig jam, grainy mustard, and crustinis. It was a burst of flavor moderated by the creamy cheese. Left me wanting more just like a good appetizer should.
The dark chocolate crème brulee shortbread cookie was a tiny but delicious dessert.
After eating I wished I could repeat the whole experience again. The chef is extremely talented. At my previous visit I had the burger which is now my 2^nd favourite burger in Ottawa (my top favourite is Two Six Ate).
