I went here for dinner with my usual dining companion recently(my husband). We enjoyed our meals. I had the Pecan Chicken Salad($ 16) but had my chicken grilled instead of pecan-crusted. My salad had mixed greens, mandarin oranges, sliced apples, cucumbers, tomatoes, celery, dried cranberries, and feta cheese. The dressing was a balsamic vinaigrette. I’m glad I asked for the dressing on the side because it was way too oily. Too much oil, not enough vinegar in my opinion. Other than the dressing, the salad was excellent. All the ingredients were fresh and the chicken breast portion was a good size. I didn’t run out of chicken before I finished the salad(which usually happens at most places). My husband had the Chicken Caesar Salad($ 15). I’m not a huge Caesar fan but he is and he loved it. I did have a bite and I liked the fact that it was as not drenched in dressing. It tasted lighter than most Caesar salads. There were croutons and bacon bits, as there should be. I really want to go back and try their pastas. They smelled great and looked good too(yeah, I was ogling other people’s food). I like lots of ice with my ice water and let me tell you, they do not skimp on the ice here. My glass was 60% ice and 40% water — loved it! And I didn’t even request that, that’s just how they usually do it! Our server, Holly, was really great. She was attentive without being intrusive, and nice without being creepy. She was very competent and not flaky like many servers I’ve had(at other establishments). I did not find the décor as kitschy as other reviewers mentioned. I didn’t notice a huge amount of mob memorabilia. And I don’t think it looks dated. It’s dimly lit, which is my only complaint, but I guess that’s the atmosphere they are going for. This place is rather unassuming. It’s in a tiny strip mall with a convenience store, a dry cleaners and a dental clinic. There’s free parking in the small parking lot. I would definitely come back.

We ate there tonight and it was excellent. Bruschetta and zucchini sticks to start. Delicious. We both had the Capone Combo which is a trio of lasagna, ravioli and manicotti. Again, delicious. Dessert was a generous square of tirimisu. Since my husband has good allergies I had the whole thing to myself. I took half home and am VERY excited about having it later. It is the best tirimisu I’ve ever had, and I’ve travelled through Italy. In one of the reviews someone commented on the décor, that it was outdated or something. Not at all! It’s a theme restaurant and it very much has that feel of a quiet speakeasy. We quite like the décor! Their choice in music is weird though. At one point Miami Sound Machine came on. Kind of hilarious but hardly note worthy. Servers are friendly and good at their jobs. We would definitely recommend this restaurant. The prices are very fair. Parking is plentiful and free!

Ordered takeout — Fettuccine Alfredo — and it was YUMMY! Nice big dinner portion and I had leftovers! Sauce was nice and rich and got some nice fresh bread with it. What I also loved is that you get a discount on your carry out! AWESOME! Will totally order again!

Capone’s At Carling West is an Italian restaurant right near my home. My personal menu favourite is the homemade mouthwatering pizza. A great restaurant.

If I could have given this 3 ½ stars, I would have. I had a blue cheese and bacon burger with sweet potato fries with house garlic sauce on the side for dipping. The burger was huge! The patty wasn’t super juicy, but still fairly moist. There was a ton of melting chunky blue cheese and crispy bacon, and fresh lettuce and tomato slices, just how I like it. The fries weren’t too crispy, but sweet potato fries almost never are. At least they weren’t overcooked or undercooked, which is really what matters in your standard sweet potato fry. The garlic sauce was preeeetty fantastic. Quite garlicky, which I also love, and not watery like many homemade sauces are. What really took down the points for this place was the atmosphere and décor. Yes, I’m sure there’s a certain old school mafia type of feel that some people are into, with the restaurant being named Capone’s and all, but it’s extremely dark and outdated. I’m sure they could keep the same vibe but update the carpet and fixtures maybe. Seemed a bit stuffy for us, and it had no customers in the middle of the day during lunchtime on a Saturday. This is usually a bad sign! They started off playing oldies, which was great, but then turned up the volume and changed it to top 40 pop hits — bleh. Food is pretty great, and for a very reasonable price, though I would hate to see people judge it by its looks.

This was right down the street from my Grandmother’s place, where we were visiting, so we thought we would give it a try. My husband and I went for dinner, after leaving my grandmother in the evening. The décor has a warm, pub feel to it. The walls and décor are all a throw-back to the 1920s and 30s, presumably as an ode to Al Capone’s era. The dim lighting and ecelectic décor make it nice as a date place. The service was excellent. The waitress was really on top of things. However, it is an Italian restaurant and I found the pasta(at least the one I had) to be really sub-par. My husband’s pizza was much better, but nothing special. I ordered an alredo pasta. Most of the pasta dishes seemed quite plain… various pasta with meat or red sauce, nothing else really to them. This particular dish had asparagus and mushrooms in the sauce and the waitress recommended it. It had ZERO taste to the sauce. It was just calories… with no reward. I ate very little because I wasn’t enjoying it enough to bother. I knew I could flavour it up if I brought it home and messed with it a bit, but never bothered in the end. We ordered dessert though(since I had barely eaten dinner). We ordered a sort of uncooked cookies in a skillet with ice cream and a lava cake. The lava cake was fine, but not really a lava cake. The filling wasn’t really«lava-ish» and it was a bit spongy. The skillet cookie was awesome. Watch out for the skillet though. My husband burnt himself on it. There doesn’t appear to be too much in that area, so if I was back, I wouldn’t rule out giving it a second shot, but if I’m able to go a bit further away, I think I would go for somewhere else and give that a shot instead.

This is hands-down, my favorite Italian restaurant in Ottawa. The ambiance is particularly lovely for a date night — it’s dimly lit and cozy. That being said, I’ve enjoyed a great lunch there with girlfriends as well. Everyone always enjoys the mob memorabilia on the walls! I visited Capone’s on my Mom’s recommendation — which let me tell you, is a rarity. Best decision ever! My Mom used to frequent this place in the early eighties when she moved to Ottawa from Toronto and remarks that it hasn’t changed much. The servers are all very experienced and knowledgeable and I have yet to take anyone there who doesn’t thoroughly enjoy their meal. Their pasta is always unbelievably fresh and delicious and I adore their Caesar salad. Their«Fettuccine Pollo Capone» is always a hit with friends as well. Their wine list is nice, and the dessert is phenomenal. YUM! Capone’s is on the Carling strip just between Woodroffe and Lincoln Fields. It’s tucked away, but well worth the visit.
