There aren’t many good places to eat in Owen Sound. And, even though East Side Mario’s in a chain, this location is far better than many others I’ve been to. And, while the Italian is average, it’s stands out in this area. It’s one of the better chain establishments you’ll find in the area and whether you’re from out of town or a local you’ll find a place here.
East Side Mario’s is one of two places in town (Boston’s Pizza, the other) where there’s a comfortable bar area, with good service and plenty of TVs to watch sporting events nightly. Both these places are packed with locals, many of whom are here to socialize and drink and don’t even come for food.
As for the food, it’s average, chain, Italian. The pasta dishes are ok. The bottomless salads and bread are fine and the pizzas are ok, too. None of the food isn’t anything to rush here for. Meanwhile, nothing is bad, either. It’s chain food and rivals that of what you’d expect at a chain. It doesn’t tastes like mama’s cooking, but you won’t be complaining either.
This is more of a place to come and enjoy lunch or dinner with friends, family or both and be in the presence of laughs, good service and not care too much about how good the food is.
