Thanks to places like the Jo Beale Gallery, my trips to Peggy’s Cove are getting so much more interesting than just a lighthouse on a bunch of rocks. A two-minute walk from the main attraction, this charming homestead on the main road is packed to the brim with artist works from all over this region of the country. During our visit, we were promptly welcomed by Jo Beale herself, a delightful woman who seems to be just fascinating with all she knows about art, culture, and the history of Peggy’s Cove. I probably could have chatted to her all afternoon if we hadn’t been on a timeline. From information on individual artists, to acting as a host for seminars for students and art enthusiasts, Jo seems to be creating her own little world of inspiration just off to the side of whats in my opinion one of the most inspiring landmarks we’ve got. It’s a perfect fit and a new destination for my future trips to the St. Margaret’s Bay area!

Original sights that stretch beyond visuals, Jo Beale is an artistic experience and an honest one. The gallery maintains the simplicity of seaside surroundings along Peggy’s main drag. Its hilltop perch and country home parallel with fine art and the tranquility of nature. The owner, Jo, was a very cool lady to speak with, seemed happy to let visitors browse on their own or engage in conversation. Photography, paintings, and some truly gifted artists– most local. Anyone holding onto the idea of small towns being all a bunch of landscape realism can bite their tongues. Landscapes? Sure. But there were more than many to take my breath away, and a spectrum of styles. Louie Armstrong sang in the background, and the work of Brian Atyeo provided me an equally jazzed highlight. This is art to take one from spectator to collector. Oh, I cannot wait to be able to afford good art. One of a kind and magnificent works. Jo Beale is an oceanside dream, and I highly recommend art lovers to get on down.
