The Lemon Tree Bakery just opened in early July, the second outpost of this Barrie-based bakery. We popped in this summer looking for a quick lunch as well as some sweets to serve dinner guests. LTB satisfied on both counts. The prepared food menu is quite limited, but everything simple café food should be: quiche, soups, and a daily special, all whipped up in the small kitchen behind the pastry counter. When we stopped by, the chef was just pulling a tray of golden-crusted, piping-hot chicken pot pies from the small oven. Once you order lunch, you can have a seat in their cozy dining room(with art for sale on the walls), or outside on their little porch. Throughout the rest of the brightly decorated shop you’ll find LTB’s cookies and pastries prettily boxed up to take home or give as gifts, as well as frozen pies, and that tempting pastry counter. They’re producing beautiful baked goods liiiike… pistachio macarons, orange butter cookies, espresso-flavored biscotti, Linzers(my personal fave), meringues, apple gallettes, cream horns, berry cheesecake, cannoli, mango mint mousse pastries, baklava, lemon bundts, chocolate hazelnut cake, fruit tarts, coffeecake, liqueur-filled chocolates, cinnamon truffles, mendiant, chocolate-dipped strawberries… …PHEW(and I could go on). With its cheerful façade and décor, friendly staff, and thoughtfully prepared food, LTB is a welcome addition to Port Carling.
