Sushi Hun is a newly opened sushi bar in Port Coquitlam. It took over from the previous Japanese restaurant(which was completely dis-functional) and completely did a 180 on the renovations. 2×4′s line the back wall with soft under cabinet and accent lighting and mirrors to elude brightness. The fresh wood concept is both minimalist and sexy. Herman Miller Eames chair replicas accessorized the open space and complemented the slate grey porcelain tile with a wood look. Wow, I feel like I was at the Interior Design Show! Now, if only they also opened up the sushi bar instead of covering it with wood, the space would be a nine. Wouldn’t an open concept glass sushi bar be more sexy? Marinated octopus morsels, romaines and cherry tomatoes for appetizers and a hot bowl of miso soup was perfect for a chilly rainy Vancouver evening. Alaska Roll and Negitoro Roll: A cream heavy Alaska roll with not nearly enough salmon sashimi filling to support it. The rice was cold and even hard. I question how fresh it is given minimal clients. Actually we were the only ones tonight during the hour span. Negitoro Roll: I could hear dicing and mincing once we ordered, so I believe this was made to order. This roll was tasty but would be better if they had added more chives for flavoring and texture. I think I still prefer Matoi Sushi in the Tri-City area. Saba Sashimi and Maguro Sashimi: Both the mackerel and the red tuna doesn’t appear to be properly cut. The saba had some bones and the maguro was like a block of wood. Nonetheless, both was pretty fresh. Tuna Tataki Salad: A lightly seasoned ponzu vinaigrette and seared tuna sashimi. We felt almost indifferent about our experience at Sushi Hun. The service was prompt and friendly. The waitress never skipped a heartbeat in refilling tea and water. The prices are northward boarder line expensive comparing oranges to oranges at nearby sushi restaurants(here, here or even here). Not sure if I will completely write this place off yet. Maybe I’ll give it another try after a few months… Let us know your experience here too!

This is my go-to for sushi. They have the most fantastic spicy salmon sushi, that is really reasonably priced. All of their food is fresh, the service is good and most importantly — Hon Sushi is consistent. Their lunch/dinner boxes are great deals and good sized portions. This place is a hidden gem!

«Hello, welcome to Hon’s Sushi!» Is what I hear every time I enter the door to Hon’s Sushi. I’m a regular, and it’s my choice when deciding where to go for Japanese food. From their fantastic BC Rolls to their surprising inexpensive lunch/dinner combos, it’s the place to go around her for sushi. It’s run by a husband and wife, and it simply is one of the better sushi joints here. The Good: The Sushi is fresh, the service is excellent, and the prices are very reasonable. The«Meh»: The menu is pretty big, and some of the items on the menu don’t live up to their sushi or dinner combos, for example the Wonton Soup is actually a let down. My biggest tip: Don’t order anything you don’t expect to at a Japanese restaurant. Hours are okay, not open Sundays but people deserve a time off! The Bad: Nothing. The Verdict: Four stars, the service is excellent, and so is the sushi. It’s the best kept secret in the little strip mall they are in! The odd menu item may not be up to par with the sushi, but it’s still a great place to eat! I mean, you could do worse… you could go to Sui Sha Ya!
