I visited Bayview Food Mart once when I was a child. In fact, I was so young I forgot what it looked like! It seemed bigger than last time I visited as well. In terms of selections, it’s not like Foody, T&T, or Sunny, and there’s definitely that«smell» that’s associated with most Chinese supermarkets. However, some of the quality is excellent, particularly the produce(that seems to be a common theme amongst these chain supermarkets). There’s usually huge discounts on their fruits(particularly oranges), and their veggies are also significantly fresher than places like T&T. Where their produce is of higher quality, their non-perishable items have much higher prices than the usual places. Their Del Monte Cream Style Corn is usually around $ 1.49, while you can get the same thing for $ 1 or less in other stores. Their rice bags are also charged higher($ 15.99 for Pacific Gold rice compared to $ 10.99-$ 13.99 in other places). Similar to Lucky Food Mart in Markham, this place is good for produce, and maybe meats if you’re not picky. In terms of other stuff, I would pass.

Just came back from here this evening. It has been renovated since the last time I visited several years ago. It is now nicer and cleaner than ever. Bayview Food Mart has been around forever and has stuck around eventhough T&T Supermarket has stolen the business of many smaller chinese grocery stores in the area. After the renovation, it now has clean shelves and a nice selection of green veggies, bottled sauces, and instant noodles. The prices are about average with not many advertised specials. They still have a prepared food section, with prices marked down to $ 2-$ 3 for large portion dishes after hours Just like before the renovation, I still found a few products that were either expired or near their expiry date(typical of smaller asian chinese grocery stores). Still it’s a nice chinese grocery store if you’re looking for a decent selection with a less crowded experience than T&T Supermarket.

This was the only grocery store that I could tell was open on Thanksgiving Monday, and I feel silly visiting Richmond Hill without getting Asian food, so I stopped in. Glad I did. It’s clean and tidy, with a smaller selection than Sunny or T&T, but the same great quality and prices. Beautiful produce, nice looking meat and seafood, and lots and lots of imported dry goods. Most of it seems to be Chinese and Korean(which should not be a surprise in this town). When I have more time I’ll look over the frozen goods more carefully. There’s a little hot food bar that seemed to only have various kinds of barbecued meat(I think I saw beef tongues), but the menu suggested that most of the time there were other selections. My dinner tonight was long beans, daikon and tteok in Glico curry sauce. The white girl’s pan-Asian special. :P

3.5 Star I am definitely surprised and impressed with the face lift and renovation of Bayview Food Mart! It is totally different from what I remembered! The selections of products are just amazing with stuffs I cannot even find at T&T and Foody Mart and price are really competitive! D24 Durian Moon cake direct from Singapore($ 36), I think is the only moon cake I really want to try for this year Mid Autumn Festival! There is also great addition in Vietnamese, Taiwanese, Malaysian, Thai and Korean groceries which I did not find here before! The store itself is just really clean and tidy. I think I will be back shopping here again!!!
