A lot of people. Very HK environment. I feel only Cantonese people come here. It’s recommended by my local Vancouver HK friend. Solid HK style milk tea that is hard to find anywhere else in US. Seattle is a dessert for HK food. Solid pineapple buns. Egg tart is way too sweet. The custard is not fluffy enough and very thin. The worst one is the French toast. First time I saw its with pineapple jam inside rather than peanut butter. It’s so sweet that I cannot eat. Cash only.

The best pineapple bun I have ever had! I came over from New York to visit and read that this place is a must for buns and I was not disappointed. Taste and fluffy-ness was perfect. My only compliant is that it is slightly more costly than what I normally pay in NY but it was worth it.

I finally had a chance to try the infamous pineapple bun! It’s so good! You have to try it! I think it’s very similar to Japanese メロンパン

Their bakery is amazing tbh. Just the taste from your first bite. Get it right by the bakery. The breakfast is a disaster. Milk tea has no taste. Pricey to have a cold drink. Toasts are just not right… more like bread instead. Wieners don’t make it at all. Ham is the only item saves the breakfast dish. Well… can’t really expect frdly services at a HK place after all.

Awesome food. I ordered the breakfast combo. I enjoyed the ham omelet. The tea is not as strong as I expect but it’s fine. The combo is about 8 $. I came in b49am so no need to wait. Otherwise maybe 15 min wait on a Wednesday morning. Also they close on Tuesday.

Lido Restaurant was another restaurant listed as a must stop in a Western publication and I was skeptical as the noted item was the humble pineapple bun. But when I saw that Lido Restaurant was located in the busy Center Mall near Parker Place and in the Golden Village and had lines out the door, I become more interested. As I was waiting in the lines(I went twice and it’s the only place I went twice on this trip if that says anything), I would see people order pineapple buns by the masses. How can something so simple, without any fruit(it’s named for the appearance of it’s texture), be that good??? Finally, we were seated and the booth seating leads to some semblance of peace from the chaos of waiting by the door. The servers take their time and don’t rush you at all with your order, though they bring items very quickly and are very quick to take orders. Our first pineapple bun arrived and I noticed it didn’t have a slice of butter. We made sure that it came back with the slice of butter that we had been told was key. Then the first bite and I clearly understood. The warm, sweet, fresh pineapple bun engulfed the cold, salty slice of cold butter and the entire contents mixed together as you chewed and swallowed. It’s a great combination of contrasts and wonderful flavors with nothing being too sweet or too salty. A couple of blinks later and the pineapple bun was gone. We ordered two more. The rest of the menu is an expansive mix of Western café style dishes and Chinese classic soups, rices, and noodles. There’s a variety of set meal pairings you can choose from and many include included coffee or milk tea drinks or an upgrade to the beverage of your choice. You also get included dinner rolls or can upgrade to that pineapple bun and some even include soup choices. Needless to say, I sampled a broad variety of items. Everything hit the spot, even though the pineapple buns ARE the star of the show. A sample of our orders: Curry Beef Brisket and Japanese Teriyaki Beef Tongue Set Meal — served with a Russian borscht soup that was hot and reminded me of my childhood both from the familiar flavor and the delicious vegetables. The curry beef brisket was fantastic as the beef brisket was so tender and the curry sauce was so strong and flavorful. It would have been perfect over rice except that I had upgraded to a pineapple bun for my starch. Mmmmm, pineapple bun. The beef tongue was tender and well done too. Teriyaki sauce was mild and not overwhelming. Baked Spaghetti — plentiful cheese and baked in an oven until piping hot. Rich, flavorful, and satisfying. Pork Blood Porridge — more a comfort breakfast food, the congee here is solid. Perhaps not as spectacular as Tsim Chai Noodle but hits the spot. Overall, we had a great two meals at Lido Restaurant. Lido even has fantastic business hours of 7:15AM to 12 midnight. Plus they never run out of Pineapple buns unlike other places that run out of their most popular item by noon. Lido is cash only.

Had breakfast there yesterday around 8:15AM. Always been a customer and now it seems that they have new chairs and tables(renovated?). Also, it looked like inflation have caught up and menu prices gone up. Still crowded.

Lido is an old school Hong Kong café in every way from the food to décor. The place was very crowded, but we didn’t wait for too long. The service was below average. The crispy donut rice roll and drinks were on par with the competitions, but I wouldn’t go out my way to come back for them. The famous pineapple bun, on the other hand, was something special. Probably the best I ever had outside of Hong Kong. I think everyone in the restaurant ordered it, and I highly recommend it. We had the version with butter, but I wasn’t a big fan because it was a bit too rich. I say go with the regular pineapple bun.

Came here for the Pineapple Bun and Butter, must say it was as amazing as advertised. There are longggg lineups every weekend from morning until night, so be prepared to wait. However, the costs were a bit absurd for their egg tarts(1.85+ tax each). I assumed the price was due to its size and flavour, but none of the two were worth the price. You could arguably get better egg tarts in a supermarket, so that was the one negative.

A friend had recommended to try this place out, apparently they’re popular for their pineapple butter buns. Can’t go wrong with pineapple buns! YUM! This place is right across the street in a smaller plaza across from Aberdeen Centre along Brownsgate /Hazelbridge. First initial feeling when I had walked in was I felt like I went back to HK. I think alot of people can agree with this feeling since the vibe here resembles very much like HK cafes like as in HK. There are food promotion signs stuck on the walls everywhere. The kitchen area set up is very much like what you would see in HK. Seatings were tables /cubical’s. So of course I came here to order what they are famous for, pineapple buns. Unfortunately, when we tried to order some, the waitress said it will be 30 mins to wait because they are making a fresh batch! That was awfully a long time to wait just for bread… So I decided ok sure what the hell. I got a drink instead and waited for a little bit. I decided to order a small egg custard to eat in the mean time. After 20 mins went by I asked if my custard was done because I was waiting for quite a bit. It came but didn’t taste that good… It was definitely fresh. but it wasn’t given the time to rest therefore the middle came out soft and mushy. When I was ready to leave I tried to wave down a waitress to get the bill and she blindly just ignored me so I waved her down again to ask for the bill, and she said I need to ask the other waitress to get the bill. But soon after, the table behind me she was taking their orders… so you can take peoples orders but not get my bill. WTF? She was also very rude and I can see doesn’t care. Service was very slow and forgetful with orders. Overall, this place is over rated, for pineapple buns. I see no difference in getting a pineapple bun from a bakery and spending less money compared to coming to this place and spending more money and wasting TIME for something that equally tastes the same at any other place. Pineapple bun is a pineapple bun period. This place is also pretty expensive for a café… Disappointed and probably won’t come back.

This restaurant made me feel like i went back to hong kong. The pineapple bun was really good. The top crust was flaky and crunchy, along with the soft tender bun. To add extra goodness there’s a slice of butter in the bun. There’s also the option of 2 slices of butter, but one was good enough for me. The flaky crunchy sugary buttery softness altogether in one bite is just amazing. The egg tarts are really good too! The egg custard inside was not dense, nice and runny. Not too sweet but just right. The outer crust is flaky and not too thick, perfect amount to go with the inner custard. If only it was freshly baked out of the oven, im sure it would taste even better.

As many reviewers have said, their pineapple buns are da bomb. I also think their freshly baked egg tarts(a.k.a. «dan tat») are just as good. The crust is flaky and melts in your mouth because it’s so fresh and warm. As for their entrees, they have a pretty nice selection of Cantonese-style food. In fact, there’s some dishes here that you don’t normally see in other places. I’d categorize some of the dishes as more home-style or village food. That’s a nice welcome if you are looking to try something different. The quality of the food is pretty good. I wouldn’t say exceptional but one leaves with a satisfied stomach without breaking the bank. The place is a definite hole-in-the-wall feel. The owners definitely didn’t put much money in making the place look nice. The walls are literally plastered with hand-written menu items. Most of these are in Chinese but fortunately their menus have English for those that can’t read Chinese characters. Service is fairly typical for a place like this. Be aware that parking during peak hours can be a challenge because of the number of other businesses there. There’s street parking as well as Aberdeen’s parkade across the street if you’re desperate.

A solid 4.5 to 5 stars in my book! I have to say that as far as HK breakfast cafes in Vancouver, this has been one of the best I’ve had. Places like this always fly under the radar because they are rated so harshly by people who do not compare apples to apples. This is not Hawksworth or even a cactus club, so don’t hold it to the same expectations. When you walk in, it’s like you’ve walked out of shiny, new Richmond, back in time to a place with green plastic booths, Chinese only menus plastered haphazardly on the walls, and wait staff yelling at each other from one end of the restaurant to another. All the makings of a good HK café experience. There will be a line up at the door. Expect to be shoved back in line by old folk who adhere to the good old ways — ie: you snooze, you lose! Don’t be offended, it’s the natural pecking order ;) you WILL eventually get a table. It’s all part of the experience. As far as service goes, no complaints, they are actually more polite than most. If you need an English menu, don’t be afraid to ask, they do exist! DONOTMISSTHEPINEAPPLEBUNSHERE. I have tried so many and these are hands down the best. Why? It’s all about the crust on top. It’s crisp, crumbly, but doesn’t fall off in one piece when you cut into it. If you are feeling particularly indulgent there is the«bolo yao» which boasts a thick slab of butter inside. Heavenly. Of note, we also had the oatmeal, radish cake and ham/mushroom omelette. The oatmeal was done just the way I like it, not too thick and not too sweet and the radish cake was quite good as well. Obviously homemade and stuffed with ingredients. My only comment is that it could have been pan-fried a touch longer as it fell apart on me when I picked it up.

2 words: PINEAPPLEBUN! This is a must stop for any visit to Vancouver. Yes, there’s a long wait for a table. And yes, there’s also a long wait for the pineapple buns to come out of the oven. But just imagine, pipping hot, fresh pineapple buns, with a cold thick slice of melting butter inside. It is worth it! And while you’re there, might as well order some to-go for the trip home! Of course, this place also has a million other items to order, like any hong-kong style café. The typical food you’d find in any hk café is just as delicious here! I had the spam and eggs instant noodles, and it seriously was just as good(if not better) than the ones I had in hong kong. So come early, put your name down on the list for a table, and also put your name down on the separate list for the pineapple buns, and enjoy! Service: It’s quite bad. Don’t expect anything. But the pineapple bun is worth dealing with bad service! Parking: Free lot for the plaza, which extends to behind the building. There’s also street metered parking.

This review is only for the pineapple buns. Which are pretty freakin’ delicious. You can reserve them ahead of time for pickup later. Totally recommended because they sell out fast and they don’t make them all day. Lido is a very busy restaurant but the staff are polite and professional, even if you’re standing there awkwardly by the pineapple bun case waiting for someone to notice you want buns.(I think it is hard to differentiate between people waiting for a table and people waiting for buns since the buns were in the lobby area.) We had a nice server who told us the time to come back for the freshest buns and they were still warm from oven when we picked them up. Next time, I want to try their pineapple buns with butter! I hear they’re pretty darn amazing!

My family comes from Hong Kong and I visit the city quite often, but I honestly have to say that the pineapple buns here are amazing! They’re on par or even better than the authentic ones that you can eat in Hong Kong, and they’re baked freshly throughout the day so it’s easy to drop by this restaurant for some take out. I also opt for the«bolo yau», which is a hot pineapple bun with a slab of butter wedged in the middle. So good! Their breakfast choices here are cheap and delicious while lunch and dinner are also quite affordable. I always get the classic HK dishes such as satay instant noodles, deep fried chicken wings, honey garlic spareribs, etc. The place gets quite packed sometimes so be prepared to wait!

One of the few places that actually open early in the morning. I came here for the pineapple bun with butter which was made fresh and served warm. The bun was fresh made and was good, but it wasn’t mouthwatering amazeball. The egg tart was decent and made fresh. The menu is available in English upon request. We also had the breakfast combo which included a platter of burnt looking egg. Looks is quite deceiving, because that darn scrambled egg was delicious and mouthwatering!!! Overall, service was not the greatest. the servers were fast paced and on point. There is no time for customers to think or decide.

Lido is definitely the most authentic Hong Kong style café in all of Vancouver. The moment you arrive inside, you will notice the HK vibe. From the service, décor, food, drinks, there is not one thing in this café that does not represent a typical HK café. The walls are plastered with Chinese characters depicting the menu. Everything is in Chinese here so you will need to ask for an english menu. The most popular items here are the freshly baked pineapple bun(with a slab or butter), the fresh egg tarts, the satay beef noodles(your choice of noodles) and the HK style milk tea. Hands down, the best HK café food out there. The place gets super busy during breakfast & lunch and the service. Well it’s just like a typical Chinese restaurant. They could be a little more attentive.

Great place to eat. When I want to feel my grass roots from the days in Chinatown growing up as a kid in Vancouver. I come here to Lido when I can’t make the trek into Vancouver. I hadn’t realiEd that there are very few English signs on the wall. It’s all Chinese except for the please wait to be seated sign and asking for the English menus. Lido’s has a definite ethnic HK vibe and if you understand this you can have a lot of fun eating here. Famous for the HK breakfast AND their pineapple buns I chatted up our friendly waitress and ordered our food. They’re busy here and they know how to work fast and efficiently. I especially like coming here alone and sitting at the communal table and just feeling the hustle and bustle of this place. Remember the food is Cantonese HK style. So corned beef may not be what you think. This would be the canned variety. Fast friendly and fills the hunger gap. Revision. Guy at cashier was unfriendly and insisted we pay tip even though we were going to pay tip. He said to us «you must pay tip!» Who does he think we are? Oh the gall! How rude! Terrible service! But our waitress was nice. So I sadly had to drop this to 2 stars. #richmondcityneedsenglishsigns
