Warning that this is a cash encouraged place. I came here to get some beef rolls and some cheap pastries. Prices are still reasonable than commercial bakeries. Customer service was okay. My order was simple that the language barrier wasn’t an issue. Lemon cake was really really good. The layout kinda reminds me of Maxim’s without the trays. Everything is individually wrapped which is appreciated and very very cheap.

Mega Bakery is located at Continental Mall in Richmond for a decade. They have baked goods of all kinds, from buns(like pork buns and vegetable buns), breads, pineapple pastry, braised eggs, and bamboo leaf wrapped rice dumplings. The pastries price is very reasonable but most of baked goods are in low quality of ingredients. Well. what you pay and what you get! That’s why I rarely buy Asian bakery.

Could’ve sworn I had written here before, just too much snacking, so let’s digress. A bit hidden in this sea of Asian businesses in this mega plaza… Everything here is wrapped, that’s a bonus. Love the pound coffee cake, literally, a heavy square that has real coffee flavour. Would say a better choice than Anna’s coffee, which is a hit or miss. Cash only. Recommend. On the north side, just to make it easier as there’s 3 sides here.

This place makes the best pineapple shortbread cakes(literal Chinese translation is Phoneix Tongue Shortbread Cakes) I have ever had in Vancouver or Toronto. Unlike the ones elsewhere, Mega’s shortbread crust is so flaky and packed with flavour(you don’t get that stale bland shortening flavour like others), and the filling is made with real pineapple with the perfect sweet flavour and right chewiness(unlike the fake chemicals tasting fillings at other places). These must be their store specialty items, as they are sold in individual sealed packages. Whenever I travel to the west coast I MUST get these — that’s how good they are; they are worth travelling over 4300 km for :)

Mega Bakery is a Taiwanese bakery located in Continental Centre! The prices a tad bit higher than your normal asian bakery, but for a reason! Their baked goods are really well made and the bread is sooo soft and moist! They have a wide selection of sweet and savoury breads for a quick lunch! They also have a ton of desserts as well, like moon cake, swiss rolls, shaobing and other goodies! Overall, I really like Mega and I’ll definitely be back!

Sponge cake fans will delight in the unusual variety of cakes and rolls. We grabbed a slice of black sesame, honey, a mocha roll, and a loaf of bread. Everything was delicious, particularly the black sesame sponge cake. The sesame was ground just enough so seeds weren’t stuck in your teeth but not completely pulverized to oblivion. The taste was subtle but definitely black sesame. I can think of a certain bakery in Seattle that does a horrible job with black sesame shortbread, so this was quite refreshing. Our little bug who doesn’t like bread scarfed up the slices from Mega Bakery. Now they are a definite must go-to for us when in Richmond.

I just at my mochi ball with peanut filling from this bakery and boy was that thing tasty! Not very much peanut filling however that’s ok because I don’t like getting overpowered by peanuts. The mochi was delicious. Still soft and tender even sitting out on my kitchen counter for 3 days. That alone earned this place +1 stars.
