Pretty underwhelming as coffee shops go, which is significant given how many coffee shops are in this neighbourhood — both independent and chain. It has a huge retail space, yet not a lot of seating and a tiny little display case for what few food items they seem to have on offer. The primary reason I don’t go back to this place anymore is the fact they only have one size of coffee. Not a problem if your main business isn’t coffee, but if you’re a coffee shop, I’d expect to be able to get a large coffee for me and a small one for my partner who prefers a smaller cup. As a result, instead of giving my business to this place, I pop into the bakery next store for superior baked goods and into any of the many other coffee shops a 30 second walk away to get coffee in the sizes that we all prefer.

The inside is nice, bright spacious and very contemporary looking. Great place to go if you want to just relax and get tea with a friend, but the coffee is no good. It tastes much like blenz coffee and is overpriced. The pastries are great, but again over priced for what you get. Really what you are paying for is to sit in a nice coffee house, but you can find better pastries and coffee at other steveston village cafes, such as bells bake shop or the mini donuts shop. Another thing that could… some cozy couches.

This review is only specifically about the roasting. I’ve been roasting coffee at home and now professionally for years(sorry if this sounds pretentious), and have taken courses on roasting profiles, tasting, etc… The El Sal and Honduras we had on siphon was prepared meticulously, but the coffee itself was underdeveloped and very grassy. I love a delicious light roast coffee with dynamic flavors, but the production roaster here must not be brewing and tasting his/her own roasts, because the coffee is obviously green, grassy, and underdeveloped. I like their concept and I frequent similar third wave shops back home, but for a 5 year old roastery, there should be more quality control in place to assure their batches are on point.

Solid coffee, pour over, quality beans. A nice break from Starbucks(which I am a fan of) with a cooler environment and great spot to hang out, grab a coffee, and/or do some work.

Love this place. I’d come here more often if I could. So much natural lighting, high ceilings, great music, enthusiastic baristas. I am a sucker for any café with great ambiance! I am a big fan of their hot chocolate, but heard that their macchiatos are great as well. I wish they added a few more plants around the establishment though, because it still feels a little barren without ‘em, though that’s not a deal breaker for me. Drop by a little after lunch for a warm drink!

I tried their 12oz latte. The latte tasted very smooth and it was better than the one at St*******. The café looked comfortable but I was sitting close to the washroom. I found out that people who did not purchase beverages borrowed and used the washroom at this coffee shop a lot. People were even in line… I would go back to try other coffee beverages next time when I am at Steveston village.

The coffee here got a lot better since I was here several months ago. The cortado was amazing. Strong but balanced. Glad to see the quality here pick up tremendously.

Nice urbane-type coffee place that would fit in in a city but is instead out in a touristy suburb. Good quality coffee and baked goods. The lemon poppyseed loaf reminds me of the ones you can get at Turks/Milanos in Vancouver, tart and not too sweet.

Great coffee, ok pastries, and some of the least friendly customer service I’ve seen in a coffee shop in a while… Why can’t hipsters at least learn proper customer service?

Great Coffee. They have different brewing options including the classic pour overs and chem X. Their sizes however are predetermined based on what drink you order which I thought was a little weird. The atmosphere is open, bright and we’ll spaced out and they have some small patio seating along the side walk. Located in Steveston Village it’s the perfect place to grab a coffee and take in the sights and sounds. Today we ordered to go and headed across the street to let the kids play at the park.

A tad pricey. Fancy hipster coffee shop. Good place to study and catch up with friends. Americano was decent. The staff looked like the saddest bunch of hipsters I’ve seen in a while. Smile. I’d come back but it’s not a convenient location for most.

Very nice café, it’s very open and the staffs are super nice. It’s hard to find a nice/chill coffee shop like this in Richmond.

A great coffee house that wouldn’t be out if place on Main Street or Commercial Drive in Vancouver(that’s where the hipsters dwell if you didn’t know). Forget the dross on the sea from and head a couple of blocks back to this place. Not only will you find a better roast and a way better atmosphere to hang out in, but you’ll be far from the madding crowd. If you’re a home brew junkie you’ll be pleased to see that you can buy the most excellent aeropress espresso maker over the counter here. They’re not very easy to come across!

I would love to give this 4 stars, but the customer service could use major improvement. Lovely coffee shop with a high ceiling and large floor to ceiling windows. Cozy, bright, and clean. The downside is the wi-fi was bad, none of us at our table could connect. Regarding the customer service, the male barista at the counter had a snobby attitude(he was an older man with a large curvy mustache and wore a vest). When I asked him one question about the menu, he just turned around even though he heard me. So I waited till he was done talking to another staff and when he turned around and I asked him again, he replied with a non-chalant tone and a non-smiling face as if I were annoying him. Sheesh, I don’t know if I’d return again. Take your pretentious attitude somewhere else, pretty boy… or else I’ll take my business elsewhere. Plenty of coffee shops in Steveston Village with much friendlier staff!

Love the décor very spacious, good coffee, very snobby and unhappy barista!!! It was a busy cold Friday afternoon. I love Steveston area Rocanini is one of the bigger café places in the area. When I walked in instant love for this place, the art on the wall is my style, the high ceilings, the wood furnishings and so much more. But when I got to the front of the line wow attitude from the barista! I was trying to be nice, but nope not today from this guy. I noticed he was the only one behind the bar I guess I can understand the frustration its busy or maybe he just hasn’t had his coffee yet!?? I ordered a latte and almond croissant both were lovely no complaints there. I would most likely come back hopefully with a nicer and happier barista behind the bar.

Nice coffee shop. Great high ceilings and feels so spacious. The coffee was good but the service was absolutely horrible. The cashier(the guy with the north face hat) was very rude and unfriendly in general. He would just stare at you like you were supposed to understand what he asking you. He was very uncommunicative on taking our order or even letting us know where our pastry went. Not a friendly bunch in general. I really enjoyed the cortado but I can get coffee somewhere else with better service.

This café is alright. It’s not particularly cosy. The wi-fi connection wasn’t reliable when I was there; in fact, in accessible. My devices(two!) could see the wifi networks but couldn’t connect. Atmosphere is not so cosy, though it’s bright and clean.

If this place were to be located anywhere in Vancouver it would probably be packed… packed with people and their laptops either doing work/homework. or pretending to do those two things… the other thing that it would have is a fair amount of hipsters sitting around setting their base of operations here, it is that comfortable… but because it is located in Steveston Village, none of the above really apply! Coming to Steveston Village to walk off a filling dim sum lunch we eventually needed somewhere to sit around, and what better than this place. Big, bright, and has caffiene to keep some of the food coma people from falling into their deep sleep. It is probably the best place to sit in, people watch through the big windows on the side, and also very bright from the décor and from the high ceilings, makes things comfortable unlike anything near water here, which is filled with tourists. For me, the only thing I really order is their in-house roasted regular coffee, but they do drip/syphon coffee’s, latte’s… and other things… which I have not tempted. On this day they had some samples of poppy seed cake out to try. There is the stereo-typical communal table in the front, and many side tables, some that fit 2, some that fit 4. Regardless where you are… it’s a bright, pleasant place. If your needing caffeine, and not wanting the green mermaid across the street… wanting something local… unique… this is the place, and a nice place at that… whether you want to take it to go… or actually enjoy what this place has to offer is up to you. On this day. the coffee was really good… there are days that are off(sour), but usually it’s bang on. If you want water, it’s self serve… probably the most relaxing place in Steveston that doesn’t really play into ‘Once Upon A Time’.
