Excellent service and food. My friends who were born and raised in Shanghai love the food.

Their XLB isn’t as good anymore after their move. The XLBs don’t have too much flavors just tasted like a ball of meat with some juice. Nothing spectacular about this place. We also ordered their meat sauce noodles and it was so bland. It was a huge proportion that it came in but not enough sauce. Also the sauce was lacking some salt as well as it was very tasteless. We also got their pot-stickers and another fried noodle dish. I still think there are way better Shanghai restaurants in Vancouver/Richmond area and this is probably not somewhere I would recommend to others.

Went there for dinner one night while we were staying at the hotel, would not go there again. The green tea would have been better if their tea pot was cleaned. We got a dinner for 2 option with fried rice and sweet and sour pork. The pork was stringy and very fatty with HUGE chunks of uncooked onion and 2 small pieces of bell pepper that were so old they were mushy. The fried rice had a frozen vegetable mix in it that I’ve had from Wal Mart in the past. The only redeeming quality were the pork buns which aside from being overly greasy were delicious. The serving staff stood out in the open at the back of the dining room on their cell phones the entire time we were there. All in all, avoid this place unless you have no other option.

This place was a hit or miss with us. Some dishes were stellar, however others were not up to par. We ordered: — Pecking Duck 2 courses(this was good, although cabbage we received for the second course wasn’t very fresh) — Eggplant(too oily) — Chicken Hot Pot(Small pieces of chicken, not like the picture) — Tofu with Crab purée(good) — Sweet and Sour Squirrel Fish(Good) — Cherry Pork Belly(Too dry) — XLB Juicy Pork Dumpings(GOOD!!) Food came fast, but service otherwise was poor.

Tough Unilocalers, though I can see why. By itself, it’s a 4-star; especially for its fresh modern décor, spaciousness, cleanliness of the washrooms, service and value. But compared to other top Shanghainese restaurants, especially in Richmond, SW comes at second place after Shanghai River, No.1 Shanghai and a few others, in no particular order. Family ordered the $ 88 dinner package which consisted of too many dishes, lost count at 7 or 8, including a dessert soup, the dark sesame doughy balls with a sweet rice soup, which just ok to me. The highlights were the Peking duck & its cousin lettuce dish, the fish, chicken with wine sauce and thick round noodles. XLB were a tad too big, skin a tad too thick, and the texture of meat reminded me of the dim sum sew gow lol. Still, worth a repeat visit. I mean, I’d refer ppl to come here. At least if you’re on this side of south Van or north Richmond, this is better than fighting thru traffic to DT Rmd, and parking here is a bit better with less pedestrians walking aimlessly, if you know what I mean ;) Much bigger than its old location.

I love this place! They moved from their Aberdeen location over to across from Costco. I was really sad when I saw they were closed, but I found them again! I like how they renewed their menu and although their restaurant is inside a hotel they managed to make it look presentable. Like I’d consider having a wedding there(not really). Although this is a Shanghainese restaurant, I had to get Peking duck since I haven’t had it in a while. It was really good! Very comparable to Chinese restaurants like Kirin or Empire. Also the prices are really reasonable. Also had their XLB and Sheng Jian Bao(the pan fried ones) — amazing! There was juices oozing out of every bun and they were delectable! Also for appetizers don’t miss out on their fried tofu(especially the one with the meat sauce) and their drunken chicken, so good! If you feel like you need some fiber after all of that, their string beans with meat sauce is amazing and it’s not as oily as most places which is great. Also their pea-tips with garlic is to die for(although a bit expensive for what it is). The service is really nice here too, they don’t rush you and are really helpful. They really know how to train their staffs since they are all really attentive and don’t forget things. The food is also really fast so if you are hungry this is the place for you(also since their portions are pretty big). All in all, this is a solid place and my usual go-to for Shanghainese food. I really appreciate how they don’t overdo the oil and sugar, although it is necessary for Shanghainese food to be authentic.

Food was bad. The 沙锅 we ordered was very salty and they put in fish balls and fatty pork belly. 锅巴 sauce was lumpy with little ingredients. Beef was sweet and hard. Not a single good dish and they must be short staffed because each dish dribbled out so slowly. Major disappointment.

It’s one of the authentic Chinese Restaurant nearby the hotel we stay. My friends from Shanghai said that the God’s are pretty good, so I take it as true.

Aweful service and did not seem to want to serve non-chinese clientele. Never felt like such and outsider and PS the food was mediocre.

I used to frequent the other location across the street from Lansdowne Mall so I was excited to see that they’ve reopened and just didn’t close permanently. Unfortunately, the menu is smaller and the Shanghai dumplings(juicy buns) aren’t remotely as good as they used to be. The place is bright and the noise volume wasn’t as bad as at many other Chinese restaurants. There was some parking on site but otherwise you can probably park at the Costco across the street. We came early so we didn’t have to wait at all which was nice. The servers were really attentive and the food came out quickly. — The veggie, shrimp and tofu soup was really good. — The shanghai dumplings(as mentioned earlier) just weren’t as good. The juice/liquid itself didn’t let the meat flavor shine and just tasted too saucy. The skin was also too thick. — The XO sauce fried rice was mediocre at best. The rice was clumpy. Some of the dried/sauced scallops(from the xo sauce) were rock hard I had to spit them out. — The only dish that was really delicious was the braised(napa) cabbage with salted pork. It was really flavorful, balanced, the pork was salty but not excessively so, and the cabbage was cooked perfectly. Unfortunately even though this place has less of a wait than 2 other places I really like, it simply wasn’t worth it in my books.

I’m no expert, but I waited patiently for renovations to be complete and Shanghai Wonderful to open. It’s very close to where I live and has become my Saturday morning dim sum place. The XLB is always great — flavour is awesome, full of juice and perfectly folded. I’ve never had one break and I am TERRIBLE with using chop sticks so I’m pretty aggressive. I also usually order the onion cake because it’s delicious. On Sundays they have a lunch special which is a steal — $ 12.95 for a soup, a main, and rice. I got the corn soup with lemon chicken. They forgot the sauce but no big deal. I will note that the prices seem quite high for their dishes so I honestly wouldn’t order anything other than what I already have… But I don’t think the ratings here deserve to be so low.

Went there the day after the wind storm of 2015! In the hotel Best Western Abercorn Inn… Interesting strategy I see of some Best Westerns giving space for restaurants. Parking seems like it could suck though if a table of 10 brings in 5 cars: D Food was overall good, juicy XLB, seemed to taste of soy sauce though, service was really decent with the food coming out at a good rate until middle of the way through, a plate came that was a mix up and after that, it all took a long time and dragged out for some reason. It was ok! Just wonder about parking though that’s the same concern most places in Richmond!

Do not believe them when they tell you it will only be 15min. I waited 45min!!! Also, the dishes are very salty and the tea is from a tea bag. I will never go back to this restaurant. It is worst than before.

I will have to try washing my chopsticks. This restaurant it like in a hotel ballroom? Parking is limited so keep your eyes open for any spots. The food is tasty and a bit greasy. They do apples and mains. Some dishes are on the smaller side but since all tables are for groups of ten or so, dishes are to be shared. The power went out during our visit but that’s due to the strong winds. Not a bad place to eat with fam. Food came a bit slow but otherwise tasty.
