Pretty steady as she goes. Wontons are consistently too big & tasty, can’t go wrong with a hot soup for just $ 8!

Came here for some late night eats with a friend. It’s a very casual place with a large menu. We had the wonton and beef brisket noodle soup and it did not disappoint! Definitely coming back for this dish when I’m in the area. The wontons were large and juicy and the broth was flavourful. The beef was pretty good too but a few pieces were a bit dry. Surprisingly large portions as well. We also had the deep fried squid with spicy salt. The peppers in this dish are hot! I didn’t like this dish as much, found it a little too oily, but my friend enjoyed it.

I haven’t been here for a while since I’m rarely in Richmond but was in the area so decided to have lunch… big mistake! Well as I & others have mentioned in reviews the service was never really good, well today it sucked! I ordered a fried rice which was not good at all… soooo oily, I didn’t even finish it and I’m a pig! I also ordered before other tables which got their food first. So while I was waiting for my food I also noticed bad hygiene from the servers. They would clear dirty dishes and plates from tables and then reset dishes without washing their hands! And there was sink right out in front! I also was watching the kitchen cuz my food took forever and saw one of the cooks pour some beef I guess on top of something and then used the bottom of the pot to squish it down! Wtf??? That and watching the servers might have been why I couldn’t finish my meal. When I asked for my bill I still had like 1⁄3 of plate unfinished and the guy never even asked me if i wanted to pack it up to go(not that I would have, but still). Anyways, too bad it was good before but I won’t be back…

I came here for a late dinner. My boyfriend and I wanted to eat wontons and beef tendon with some noodles, so we both ordered similar dishes of food. He ordered a bowl of beef tendon and wonton with noodles in soup and I ordered a dish of beef tendon with oyster sauce with mixed noodles with soup on the side. The food was very Hong Kong style and it came out fast. But nothing was special or surprised me. The price and service were okay. This restaurant is located in Richmond. Richmond has many Asian restaurants. If this wonton noodle restaurant wants to stay competitive in the market, they need to maintain their food, service and quality or even improve themselves in all these aspects.

Wontons almost as large as golf balls! That was my first impression almost 20 years ago when I was last at Tsim Chai Noodles. I haven’t been there since my university days when my boys and I were always on the hunt for the best bang for the buck. And, while the wontons may not be as big as I remembered, they are still quite large and the menu still represents good value. The wontons were filled with high quality pork and prawns. They were tender and juicy; some places overcook wontons until they are rubbery, but not this place. The serving of beef brisket was quite generous in quantity but many of the pieces in my order were tiny fragments rather than larger chunks. And the pieces had a meat-to-fat ratio of approximately 7:3 which in my opinion is fair-good. Brisket was well marinated and generally tender. The noodles were the only letdown because for some reason, they were all cut into short segments making it difficult to eat spaghetti-style without a fork. I ended up having to fish out individual noodles using my chopsticks which is not the most efficient way to eat noodles. I also wished there were more vegetables but being in the middle of winter, I understand that it’s probably expensive right now. The black-bean beef chow mein was good in presentation and texture. In terms of taste, it was as good as most other places. Not the best, not the worst. The only weakness was again a shortage of vegetables although there were lots of onions. The deep fried wontons were large, crispy and juicy. Be careful eating them as they come out super hot. Using the vinegar sauce provided, they taste amazing. They cost just under $ 9 and there were 10 wontons. They make a great appetizer or even a meal for one person, although that would be unhealthy. They are best ordered for sharing. Service was quick. We were served food in under five minutes of ordering. Waitresses were courteous and prompt. The restaurant was at 95% capacity the entire time we were there. As soon as one table cleared, another group was seated. We came at dinner time on a Sunday evening, so your mileage may vary.

Surprised that I haven’t reviewed this place. It is straightforward wonton noodle combinations. Food comes out fast. Taste is about right for the price and expectations. To me, it’s basically hong kong comfort food slash fast food. Service was better and friendlier than I expected. It was surprisingly empty on a Sunday evening. I think most people head out to Alexandra to get their food cravings satisfied.

Came here for dinner last weekend. I know it’s a noodle place, but I was in a rice mood. I ordered 揚州炒飯(yang chow fried rice). The rice itself was average, could probably use more BBQ pork, had plenty of shrimp though. But the reduced two star rating is purely because of the service. After we were seated, it took a ridiculously long time before we were able to flag down a server to take our order. After taking the orders, I waited close to a good half hour wondering where my fried rice was. After finally getting a hold of a server, it appears they forgot to input my order. The rice thankfully came out shortly after that. It was a pretty busy time, but they should really have more servers or don’t have so many tables. The rice definitely was not worth the lengthy wait.

This restaurant should not be in business. I am now completely convinced that the foodsafe inspectors in Richmond do nothing all day but drive around collecting payoffs. Discovered this place when I googled«best hong kong style noodles richmond» hoping to find a good substitute for the Michigan Noodle House that is no longer in business. Was hoping and praying for the best. Service was horrible, but… I can look past that for good HK style noodles. Cleanliness… abysmal… should have left after my pre-order bathroom trip… I am an idiot… but I was hungry(please see photos of urinal). Food safe??? Service staff fingering cups and dirty food plates, then turning around and setting tables, putting fingers in water glasses, etc. I got a bit nervous at that point. Worried. 20 minute drive home… 20 more minutes on the toilet. NEVERAGAIN. City of Richmond, you should be ashamed of your food/restaurant inspectors. This place is abysmal.

Best wontons I have had outside of my hometown Guangzhou! When I read other reviews on the wontons, I didn’t believe it because most wonton noodles I have tried here in Vancouver(or even in Hong Kong) were not up to standards(not to mention impressing me), but Tsim Chai is an exception! Extremely soft and thin wonton wraps and giant shrimp fillings inside. The whole wonton just soothes in your mouth, and down your throat. Yes it was that good. Other food such as chow main and beef rice were just alright but I will highly recommend trying out their wontons!

The North American branch of one of my favorite noodle joints in Hong Kong where I used to lunch frequently back when I worked there. Large groups of Hong Kong people emigrated to Vancouver back in the 90s and the owners of this restaurant was part of this wave. Unlike the original Hong Kong branch, they have a full menu with all kinds of dishes in the Richmond, BC branch. However, I have never tried any of them as the spirit of places like this is fast food, not fine dining. You order your noodles, eat, then leave(all within 30 minutes). Do not linger! I’ve eaten here many times over the years and have always stuck with the offerings that they are known for in Hong Kong — big wontons, well cooked noodles, simple vegetables, delicious fish balls. What else can one ask for in life? :-)

This was my first real trip to Vancouver. The other first time in Vancouver was with family and I was high school senior and came with my family. What do we do when we vacation, we visit families and friends. No exploring and no foodie adventures. So this time around, it was my chance to see the real Vancouver and did it make an impression. I was craving some chinese beef brisket noodles or fish ball noodles. My friend and I went to Tsim Chai Noodles. We had no clue where to go. What did we do? We rely on Unilocal.Boy, we’re the reviews on par. I had the beef brisket noodle and fish ball noodles. Both were delicious. The fish balls weren’t fishy so that was great, means it was fresh. The beef brisket was tender. The broth were clear but savory. And you wouldn’t guess it but their coffee milk tea is super delicious. Oh, my. This place was amazing. And the staff were friendly and always checking in on us. A place to check out when anyone in adventuring through Vancouver, BC.

A group of us were at Tsim Chai Noodle Restaurant on a Wednesday night for dinner. It was bowling night so we all met up to grab a quick dinner before hitting the Zone. We ordered a bunch of dishes and shared. It’s a very Chinese thing to do… Sharing enhances a sense of community… Tsim Chai Noodle serves up traditional noodle, rice, and congee dishes. Basically dishes you would find at most traditional HK cafes. The food is pretty good. Service is fast and efficient. Not complaints here!

This place seems to be hella popular and I just can’t really understand it. I’m between a 2 – 3 star for this one. but especially since we are in Richmond– heck– it’s just 2 stars. The only here to come here are the gigantic wontons. They are huge. Massive. Huge. But that alone doesn’t prop a place up; Everything else is about on par with anything else you can find in Richmond, and I’m feeling the amount of food to $$ ratio gives it less than average value. The service is a bit lacking. Like, There are plenty of places that will never check up on you– that’s fine. Bu this place, even as you raise your hand and beckon a waiter, they are taking their own sweet time(in a non-busy restaurant). Top that off with forgetting our order a couple times? yeah, no go.

It still my flavour Wonton noodle place, the service always very friendly and efficient. The wonton and shrimp dumplings are the best! It’s big, delicious and bouncy! The food quality still above the average, pls keep it up and don’t let me know.

I really scratch my head to this one, as I do not know whether to give you a 2 or a 3 star rating. Came here finally, after years of knowing about this place after picking my mother up from the airport and in need of food. Ever since the closing of ‘Michigan’ it has been a sad journey to find a good wonton noodle/congee shop in Richmond, taste buds vary but this is just ridiculous… isn’t Richmond, as the writers in the papers say, the crown jewel of Chinese food… well yet another one that has failed my expectations of nothing! One of the things before even stepping foot in this place is the crazy poor parking situation in this plaza. Chinese drivers are bad enough(I am one of them by the way, yet not as bad as these clowns in this lot), but dealing with a narrow passage, spots on both sides of this plaza, and a number of restaurants and businesses vying for all these spots… well a mess is what you get! Finally after finding parking, and probably much cursing in your own brain, you walk into this restaurant. First thing you see on the door is the trusty Unilocal sticker… ok… maybe safe? Then you see the sign at the cash register… ‘Cash Only’. you have been warned! We were sat at a table right in the middle of the restaurant and quickly given two menus. We quickly placed an order of a bowl of egg noodles with wonton and beef brisket and another bowl of spicy pork mixed with noodle and soup on the side. During this time, 4:30PM on Saturday, I noticed many tables having full on meals, multiple plates, just feasting away, it looked promising, and also made me a little bit more hungry. Our food eventually arrived, piping hot from the kitchen with the steam rising from the bowls. We were already given smaller bowls so we can share, without asking… a really nice touch. I quickly started eating mine first, I was not really impressed as this dish as the spicy pork mixed noodles(炸酱面) are usually a hit or miss and no place makes this thing the same… no one! The pork was fine, but the sauce was less to be desired! I eventually helped my mom finish her bowl of noodles, the wonton’s were big, firm, not bad, the beef brisket I found a little too fatty for my taste. The food sleepiness did kick in after the whole meal while driving home which means that the MSG kicked in. I was really not a fan of any of it, yet to get by it was ok at best. Still looking for my Michigan replacement… the search continues!

My go-to place when I’m needing wonton noodle soup. Seriously the biggest wontons I’ve seen around. The beef pan fried noodle is also delicious as well as the Singapore noodle. Or if you’re craving comfort food, the preserved egg congee is also a good choice. If you come at lunch time, you can the wonton noodles with a drink for under $ 10! Service is fast and food comes out quickly. Beware that parking can be limited depending on when you go.

We have been here several times but this time the food was not as good as we remember it. We have the plain wontons. Size are the same as other places but the texture is not as good as the other wonton places we tried. We also ordered the congee with salted pork and thousand year old eggs and baby oysters. What we got was mostly plain congee and not much of the ingredients. The only dish that was good is the deep fried salt and pepper tofu. The outside was nice and crispy and inside was nice and soft. With so many similar places in Richmond, we won’t be returning anytime soon.

Tsim Chai, affectionately known as «Little Jimmy’s» by my family, is my go-to spot for excellent tasting noodles and congee in Richmond. Ever since I was a little girl, I have enjoyed family trips to Richmond, BC because of restaurants like Tsim Chai. The food here is always incredibly tasty and perfectly prepared. It goes without saying that the Chinese food in RIchmond surpasses Chinese food in Seattle, but even within Richmond, Tsim Chai stands out as a delicious restaurant with great value for your Canadian dollar. We ordered the following(stars denote my personal favorites): –Sliced beef chow fun(good hot wok flavor)* –Sliced fresh tilapia congee(smooth porridge with fresh tasting fish)* –Seafood house special chow mein(fresh seafood) –Seafood yee mein(this is the only one I wouldn’t recommend — just ok.) –Beef and egg swirl with rice noodle(always a favorite!)* It has been a pleasure growing up with Tsim Chai. The restaurant has had a makeover in the past few years, but the food has maintained its excellence. Service has always been fast and cordial. Five stars for the value, taste, and speedy service.
