Only been there for dinner. Usually order the Peking duck(2 courses) and a small soup. There’s lots of variety in the soup category(they say no msg in the soup) and for the appy the mushrooms wrapped in bean curd then pan-fried item is quite good(crispy on the outside and juicy on the inside) Lots of parking, that’s something for Richmond

Poor service. The waitress was rude. I was shocked when I found out that the gailan with garlic sauce was not even peeled(the surface of gailan is super rough + thick and hard to chew, usually restaurants would peel it first) and when I asked why this is not peeled, got the answer like«we just cook it this way, deal with it. «and the waitress even pointed the other table saying they are fine with this dish. Despite that I paid to get dish that I can’t really cook at home, the waitress didn’t explain why their food is that bad compare to the level of their interior design and tell me to deal with it? And stop complain? Is it how your boss teach you to treat your customers? Won’t go there again. And I’ll tell all of my friends not to go there too. This is the best way to lose your customers.

Really poor customer service… we ordered a lot of food and asked one of the waiters if that would be too much, she answered«I don’t know… don’t know how much you can eat»…

We ordered a chicken soup and a mushroom soup. Both are pretty good. The mushroom soup tasted like MSG but I wasn’t especially thirsty afterwards. So maybe it was just the delicious mushrooms. We also had two desserts: dates with sticky rice ball, and lotus root with sticky rice and brown sugar. Both were delicious.

Didn’t get to eat because got pissed of by the BAD service. I don’t know if that waitress had some sort of racist opinions but she was so RUDE! The first time in my life to get angry with a waitress! If u r the kind of person who likes to ask about the foods in detail before u order, don’t go there because the waitress would say, «isn’t everything written on the menu already?(自己看菜单。菜单上不是都写着呢吗?)»

Been to Zhaos several times now and I’ve never been disappointed. They did change their hours(they’re not open as late) and I don’t think they offer their late night menu anymore. However, they did add more items to their regular menu and I was able to try some of their new items. They’re all just as delicious as everything else I’ve had at Zhaos :) Good food, service, and atmosphere. 5 stars!

I really need to praise Zhao’s soup house’s service! So friendly and attentive. The Shanghainese stir fry noodles are a must try. It is so much less salty and less oily than all other restaurants. And the shredded pork quality is so good. so tender. The original chicken soup is so flavorful. The small size is perfect for 2 people, you can get 2 bowls of soup each. They recently changed the dessert Osmanthus Jelly to red bean soup instead. And I told them how much I love the Osmanthus Jelly, so they wen to the kitchen and checked with the chef and let me take home a entire box for a very very affordable price. They are still having the 15% discount off promotion. Come give this place a try :)

Another new Chinese restaurant opened on Alexandra Road(Eat Street) Richmond. Zhao’s Soup house is underneath Jade Seafood Restaurant. I saw the big banner at the corner and seemed like the interior looks quite unique when I passed by.
My girlfriend likes slow cooked soup and we went there for dinner. When we walked in around 6ish, there is no customer inside. We got seated by window side and tea served right the way. The tea set was traditional and fancy. The tea cup too tiny and only good for a zip. The menu is good and the item descriptions(soup) in details, but, you may find the dishes are on expensive side. We ordered few dishes to share and found none of dishes are up to our standard. Dry mushroom wrapped in bean curd roll as appetizer. It served in cold and tasty. Mouthful chicken in chili oil — It wasn’t spicy at all and also served in cold. It’s free range chicken and meat was fresh, taste quite bland. Tan Tan noodles — It’s was so soaky and salty! Pan fried dumpling — It’s so greasy and not juicy inside. Pan fried vegetable — It’s just ok. We didn’t order the soup coz it doesn’t seem like slow cook soup &NOMSG. Never mind… just a gimmick for specialty soup.

Not a good experience for me: Went here on vacation with my parents because they wanted to go to Vancouver, Canada. As we walked in, another customer walked out because their meal never arrived and this should’ve set off warning signs but I didn’t say anything because I was with my parents. We sat down, we ordered and I asked for a glass of water. 15 minutes later, I asked where it was and the waitress says«Oh I’ll bring it right out». Another 15 minutes later, I asked again, and she says«OMG I’m SOSORRY I FORGOT». 10 minutes after this, none of our food has arrived and my mom calls the waitress over and bitches at her. She finally runs in, brings out my glass of water(after 40 minutes), and brings out a raw crab and says is this one good enough. I was thinking in my head«AREYOUSERIOUSYOUHAVEN’T EVENSTARTEDCOOKINGITYET». 20 minutes later, the cooked crab comes out and we eat it. Oh oops, we finish it, and NONEOFOUROTHERDISHESAREHERE. At this point we’re fed up, we ask for the bill and for the waiter to cancel the rest of the dishes we ordered(that were probably not coming anyways). As we were paying for the food, he even had the audacity to ask whether we were paying 15 or 20 percent tip. There’s something unsettling when you waste an hour waiting for food that doesn’t come and you’re asked to pay 20% tip for garbage service. Please do NOT come here, this place is surrounded by so many better Chinese restaurants.

I give them one star for the interior deco and one star for the soup. The place is actually very small so expect waiting a lot. We ordered one soup, one lamb dish, a BBQ quail, and a pot of tea. Quail was not available, we were notified, and then for the next thirty min we sat there asking for our pot of tea whenever we see someone walk by. The tea never came. Then finally we got our food, which is not too bad. We quickly devoured it after waiting for so long and went to pay at the front — since we do not plan on wasting any more time on the place. Guess what we see on the bill? Bingo, the BBQ quail and the damn tea. At least they didn’t give us any hassle about taking it off. Long story short — if you like home made soup, come and order take out

If you love the home made soups like I do. This is the place for you. Located on the ground floor underneath the Jade Seafood Restaurant. There are tons of parking! Great for pick up on your way home.
