I use to love this place when I was a kid. I have fond memories of jumping on the trampolines, having family barbecues there, going zip-lining and feeding masses of carp in the pond in the Shakespearean garden. But writing this review nearly a decade after last visiting and thinking of the large animals there makes me feel sad and guilty for one reason — the exotic animals there aren’t treated well at all. They’re aren’t in proper enclosures and it is glaringly obvious. The lions and tigers and bears looked so unhappy in their tiny cages and had little or no interaction with their species. It was extremely heart breaking to see them slowly pace back and forth in their small enclosures with sad and frustrated looks in their eyes. Some of the animals would cry out in misery. Even as a kid I would try to avoid going through the area with the lions, tigers, and bears. The fact that I recognized this poor treatment as a little kid says a lot — it’s just not okay to treat animals like this. Greenview Aviaries could be such a great place to go if they improved the living conditions for these beautiful animals. I don’t consider myself an animal activist at all and I’m not against zoos, but I can recognize poor treatment when I see it. My advice to the owners would be to raise the admission prices to improve the enclosures for the large animals. They definitely have the space to increase the size of the enclosures! Otherwise, I and many other customers won’t be returning. What a shame.
