Irving Route 1 Big Stop

This is one of the full service Irving convenience stores offering gasoline and the usual conveninece store fare along with a full service diner.
I dined at the diner last night with several friends. The food was decent. Some folks in our party thought it divine, but I felt it had the potential to be good. Sadly, it didn’t live up to that.
I had a club sandwich on whole wheat. The menu says it has mayo, but when it arrived, Miracle Whip had been substituted for mayo – not the same thing. My fries were just a little warmer than the air around us.
Some of our party ordered diet Coke, and some ordered diet Pepsi. I was impressed that they offered fountain service for both. That impression faded as our server brought only diet Coke and wasn’t too anxious to fix the issue. I know it may be more specific to the US, but I’m used to having my beverage topped off during a meal. This didn’t happen either.
What did happen was that while I was chatting, the server dumped some napkins and stuff onto my plate… BEFORE I was finished. And again, she wasn’t terribly apologetic.
On the good side, they do have complimentary WiFi.
When you go, order what you want, and they’ll bring you what they want you to have… and take it away when they are ready. Maybe it’s not always that way, but if you’re blessed with our server, you have been warned.
