I gave this place 3 stars simply because of this evening. Usually I enjoy Scotyz for dinner, I’ve had many nights with a table full of finger food and beer. However lately it seems something has changed. Maybe the cook? The menu got smaller with some staple missing, like the Scotyz platter. The prices are higher. Last Friday I ordered a club sandwich. It was terribly constructed and fell apart, and the fries on the side were cold. Tonight it was a chicken burger(which was good) and a poutine as a side. Sadly, the poutine had actual mouldy cheese on it. The waitress(Natasha) was fantastic about it, she immediately took it back and replaced it with waffle fries, however it was really disappointing and gross that they actually served mouldy cheese. The quality has gone way down and is not the standard for them. Their food was always great, beer affordable. Very sad about this.

This is your typical dive bar, but I mean that in the best possible way. I know people who have been going to Scotyz for years; it’s a sort of «landmark» on Taschereau in St-Hubert, known for it’s very inexpensive, but great food, and overall atmosphere. My boyfriend Danny and I came here for supper on a Friday night(tip: arrive early, kitchen closes at 9pm), and were surprised by the expansive menu, both for the variety offered and the prices. I ordered fish’n’chips(yum!), and he ordered 2lbs of honey garlic chicken wings and a hot chicken sandwich. Our waitress was very nice, and let us in on an Oktoberfest secret; buy a 60oz pitcher of Rickards(red or blond) and get a HUGE free mug(we’re talking the litre size ones). The food was delicious; huge portions, small price. It’s reminiscent of the places you see on Diners, Drive-ins and Dives :) When the bill came, I was personally shocked. Our pitcher of Rickards, which mind you I thought would be a little on the pricey side given you get a free litre-size mug, was only 11 $; ELEVENDOLLARS!!! We plan on going back before the end of October just to take advantage of the deal again(and of course for the food!). Our whole bill, fish’n’chips, 2lbs of wings, hot chicken sandwich and a pitcher of Rickards came to a grand total of 50 $. Not too shabby at all! A definite must!
