This is a review of their Fairview mall location. First off, I recently moved from Montréal where I was previously getting my treatments done and I am strongly considering diving the 5 hours every time I need my hair done. I will never visit this salon again! I went in to get my hair relaxed a treatment I have been doing every year for nearly 5 years and never had someone botch my hair up so bad. I was very clear with the stylist about my concerns and repeated myself many times that she had to be vigilant yet she was not. I think this should have been my first hint to run, she tried to assure me that she had used this relaxer on many people, even people with african american hair. I told her, I am not african american and she said yes, yes, but I have experience is what I am saying, I know what I am doing. So, I trusted her and that was a huge mistake. I left with a pretty haircut, but after the first wash I saw what she did. My hair was all broken around the base of my neck and the crown of my head. I literally had huge portions of of my head where the hair was broken at the root. Before I went in, I had shoulder length hair that filled a pony tail very nicely before I saw this«hair dresser»,(I put this in quotes because I would really like to call her a butcher), it now wont even stay in a rubber band. I wont even mention how awful my hair looks when I leave it curly now, with the huge dent I have in my hair circling my head. I believe people are entitle to live their live how ever they see fit, but when this affects how you perform at your job there’s a problem and this needs to be addressed. She was too busy getting high(yes… I mean smoking pot) while the relaxer was in my hair, while my hair was burning. When she finally returned to remove the relaxer, she wreaked and decided to hand me off to someone else while she helped her friend. I have never encountered such lack of professionalism, and I initially chalked it up to a comparison with my pervious hair dresser, but now I know it was her.

This is my first Unilocal review ever. My experience at Tonyc is what prompted me to write this. Worst haircut I’ve ever had. I’ve had good and bad haircuts over the years, but I was really disappointed with what happened here at Tonyc. So I made my appointment a day earlier, the receptionist was super nice and cool and scheduled me in first thing the next morning with Cindy. So I show up five minutes early out of courtesy, the two new receptionists who I had not previously met at that point told me she would be a few minutes late, they were also really nice so I was inclined to just wait it out, being a few minutes late is really not a big deal and good thing I wasn’t in a rush because, Cindy showed up 25 minutes late. I was also told she was a master hairstylist, and that she would be charging an extra $ 20 for her expertise. I was a little uncomfortable with the situation since no one had told me that I would be paying more for a service(her so called expertise) that I did not want nor ask for. I chose to just go through with it anyway, if she was a master hairstylist with years of experience it should be worth it right? No. It really wasn’t. I assumed she had been late due to traffic, but her cigarette breath and coffee in hand proved otherwise. Cindy has incredibly awful manners, and was really rough with me while washing my hair. She has these long talon nails which she will use to scratch your scalp during the wash which is supposed to be a relaxing and pleasant experience. She also made the comment that washing my hair was unnecessary and a waste of time since it was already clean enough. It was just rude and rough and I was regretting my decision to cut my hair there already. During the process she hardly asked me what I wanted and whenever I spoke up she would literally ignore me. Is this what a master stylist is all about? Being rude, rough and careless? What really bugged me was that I asked for her to part my hair on the right, the way I always wear it, and I mentioned it twice thereafter just incase. Guess what? Was my hair parted on the right? Nope. Another thing that bugged me was right when I sat down in the chair after having my hair washed she snipped off about two inches of my hair and without warning held the pieces of cut hair right up to my face and she then continued to ask«Is this good enough?» I had no idea what she meant and she looked really annoyed and then asked again as if I was a four year old«Is this enough for me to cut off or do you want more?». Like seriously lady you could’ve asked in a way nicer way. She literally made me feel terrible the whole time, made zero attempts at conversation and I really felt she wasn’t paying attention. She was also having personal conversations with one of the receptionists and instead of multitasking by cutting my hair and talking at the same time, she would actually walk away from me to gossip. C’mon man seriously? I wish I could say I loved the end result but it was totally awful. Because she had initially parted my hair on the wrong side and had to comb it the other way the top of my head was so frizzy and static. My jaw dropped when she took the black cape off me because I actually couldn’t believe she was done because my hair looked like crap and parts on the top were sticking up 2 – 3 inches high! I think she must have noticed my total shock because she ran to get a bottle of hairspray and tried fixing the frizz. Honestly I went into the salon looking so much better than how I did when I left. I’m just really upset, my hair is really poofy and frizzy and this is in no way what a haircut from a «master» hairstylist should look like. The other hairstylists in the salon looked so much more interested in their clients than mine and I was really jealous of the other customers getting their hair done by someone other than Cindy. I paid $ 73 and I really wish I had just gone somewhere else. Honestly it was just such a bad experience this awful haircut is so depressing. I’m so angry and upset I just hope there is a head office so I can call and complain to. I really don’t reccomend Cindy, the other stylists maybe, but please if you value your appearance don’t go to her or if they schedule you with her then request someone else.
