What do you do when your favorite BBQ house is closed? For me, I go and try a new experience, which ultimately is their competition. This is how I found, Tung Tak Bbq House. There wasn’t much of a line up and it didn’t get much busier. The restaurant is outside of the food court of this mini mall, I don’t actually know the name of it. However, it is just a few doors down from the food court. There is seating area, as it is only a takeout restaurant. The inside looked run down and cramped. The BBQ meats are on display behind the counter, they didn’t have a lot of BBQ pork but they had one roast pork on display and a second one ready to go in that you can see in the back hanging. The prices were relatively low; however, this experience was the highest in this mini mall for Chinese BBQ. The family that runs this restaurant is very nice and it is obvious that they strive to do their best, this includes talking to their customers. The«butcher» or the cook came out from the back and seemed a little unsteady, as he cut the meat and was able to put it into the rice bowl/take out container. However, not much care was taken to arrange the meat, it looked like a hodge podge. He asked the cashier and myself multiple times what I had ordered. The food was also a mix. However, let’s be more specific. The rice was flavorful but the consistency might have been off. This could have been because of the BBQ sauce that they put over it. They offered fried Tofu over any other vegetables placed on one side of the rice bowl. The take out container that I refer to the rice bowl was the right size; however, the soup bowl was smaller than I am used to. The BBQ pork was lacking, it was dry and overcooked. Although, my kids didn’t complain, I was kind of disappointed, as they even threw in the burnt parts. The Roasted Pork meat was plentiful, huge pieces were given. The Roasted Duck, was a mix, a couple of pieces with a lot of meat and then odds and ends. As I have said, this place does try and they were the only one in this mall where sauce was offered and given, this scores points with me. This restaurant is reasonable, relatively quick and close to what I would expect for a Chinese BBQ restaurant. The service was good. Very impressed with the portions of Roasted Pork but disappointed that it also gives odds and ends with their other meats.

Tung Tak BBQ House is one of the three Chinese BBQ takeout joints in this Chinese plaza… and it is one of the worst one. The BBQ itself is not bad… Roasted Duck and BBQ Pork with rice($ 5.50). Duck itself is soft and tender with crispy skin, The BBQ Pork is though does not look like they were BBQ to a dark red juicy coloured but they are quite soft and moist. The one thing it really turning me off and makes me not want to eat food from here again is. they were washing the floors in the kitchen when I was buying my takeout… And it is kind of gross me out when I saw all these brownish water on the floor and the man did not even wash his hands when he came out to the front to prepare the food for me! And even the front counter does not look clean and tidy! :( Advice: go to the other 2BBQ place… your tummy will thanks you for that. Plus, the other 2 places have much better tasting food!
