What a treat visiting Basted Baker was! My boyfriend and I visited from Toronto and were amazed by the delights we encountered here. We visited everyday of the 5 days we stayed! We spent our trip catching up on books, relaxing and indulging in great food. This was the perfect venue for all of those things. The atmosphere made us feel right at home, the regulars welcomed us, and the staff took the time to know us. I tried almost everything on the menu! They take the upmost care in every aspect of the food preparation. For example, all their food is from local sources. They prepare everything themselves, from the ketchup to the deliciously warm and buttery biscuits. They have different desserts every day, not to mention the scones, which are always made using Nick, the baker/barista/general manager??‘s, imagination. I had the cinnamon walnut scone and I was actually amazed. The drinks are crafted with precision, high quality beans, and have the bonus of being beautifully artistic. The biscuit sandwiches are totally unique, full of flavour, and satisfying. If you are feeling something lighter, try a warm biscuit with the *hand made* berry butter. Did I mention they have spelt biscuits if that’s your thing? I tried both. Loved both! Each day they have a different salad/soup/sandwich option in addition to biscuit sandwiches. Get there fast! They sell out quickly, and you can imagine why. They bake their milk buns themselves, and the salad is always different and full of flavour. The soup is always prepared with in-season delights. I especially loved that Chris, the chef, personally came to add more roasted chickpeas to my soup. I also highly recommend the chia seed pudding! Kandace, the baker, even shared her recipe with me. Although, I haven’t been able to recreate it the same way she has. I also tried the Kombucha, their herbal teas, and took some of the coffee beans home for keeps. Get their for Saturday brunch if you can. Their biscuit eggs benedict, topped with generous amounts of hollandaise, will keep you full until dinner. If you are in Sechelt, you really must experience Basted Baker. I only wish they had one in Toronto!
