Amazing to find a quality coffee shop out here! REAL macchiatos, not that sweet Starbuck-style macchiato(perfectly fine if that’s for you). Great quality food and drinks. Wife got a solid mocha, very tasty, not too sweet. Macchiato was amazing, not overly bitter and allowed coffee bean notes to come through. Also got a Cranberry walnut and brie pizza, super good. And they are VERY attentive to allergies as my wife has a serious peanut allergy. There’s a smaller quick, grab/go coffee shop(Speed Stick coffee) of theirs which you’ll come across if you’re walking from Otter Point rd, but go a little further and turn left to get to the main shop. Friendly staff, and great coffee.

This place is about as great of a coffee shop as one can imagine. They are tucked away on the back side of a small strip mall, and hidden between two small buildings. The shop has a big patio with nice seating leading up to the front. Service is chill, they’re roasting their own beans and serving up some killer espresso and drip coffee. The boyfriend and I stopped in on our way out of Sooke and ended up being blown away by how spot on their coffee is. BF got a capp and after drinking it all, decided to go buy a pound of beans. I did a normal drip coffee and it was perfect for me. Everyone inside was really friendly and welcoming. If you’re in Sooke and you need a pick me up, stop in here!

Kooky fun staff, great space, superior Panini. I don’t think that they called it that though). Great space to lounge in with the Sooke locals, but maybe hard to find off the alley. I loved the mural of the place itself on the wall including all the staff members. Many things to look at inside, I imagine kids would be easily entertained(Bobby Sherman lunch kit, cool art, Volkswagon van toy collection and more). When we asked where we could buy a lemon for our hike trip, they ran and grabbed one and gave it to us. We thought of this place as we bbq’ed fresh mussels on the Juan de Fuca trail. Homey feel for sure! I get the feeling that the thing here is the coffee,.people love it, they roast on premises.

A family atmosphere, home roasted beans, and coffee served in a mug. Needless to say, I felt at home, and comfortable among other friendly people of Sooke enjoying wonderful caffeine beverages. My latte was delicious, an artful design in my foamy top was a delightful touch. The friendly staff and equally accepting patrons made this experience a memorable one. Great area for children to occupy themselves while the adults are quite able to sit relaxed and enjoy a coffee the way it should be enjoyed… slowly, and savored. I look forward to my next visit.

The town of Sooke, is small, and has the same energy of the Gulf Islands, most likely because of the vibrant art community, that is similar to the Gulf Islands. Our only stop for a coffee and a snack was at The Stick. Coffee House & Specialty Roaster. I was immediately attracted to the layout of the café, it is bright, and open. The staff is friendly and open to questions. They have a small working roaster available for customers to see, no coffee was being roasted at the time however. My husband was instantly interested because of the years working in the coffee industry. He became engaged in conversation with the knowledgeable staff about coffee roasting,(all things rather dull to me) so I peeked around. The Stick has Vegan goodies readily available, many are also wheat free, they also have a Vegan Black Bean Wrap option. I choose to have a black coffee, and the Sunflower brittle. The brittle was delicious, I gobbled it up quite quickly. They have a leaflet menu, that you can take with you, as well as blackboard menu. I am under the impression the baked goods do change often, but they always have a vegan, and wheat free option. They also sell merchandise, T-shirts boasting the Coffee House, and I purchased a «wide cuppow» a sippy cup lid for mason jars. Many of the locals were getting coffees and preparing to go to the Sooke Philharmonic Fling, a FREE outdoor family concert at Ed Macgregor Park. The patio seating(with umbrella’s) was full, they also water bowls for dogs. It was a great visit, obvious hot spot in the little town of Sooke.

Amazing place — great people that love coffee and a nice space, and by far the best coffee I’ve had on Vancouver Island so far! Had a lot of fun talking with the staff /owner — awesome to see a local(for me) Verve mug dangling from the ceiling. :) One of those shops you feel confident ordering a cappuccino from — no asking what size or wet/dry, just a good proper capp with microfoam expertly pulled.

Above of all, the quality of coffee is the most important and The Stick roasts its own beans and they do it well. The Vosino – An americano by another name is a clever take on the postal code, V0S1N0 – was enjoyed many times, as well as lattés that were tasty. The eclectic staff were all genuinely friendly which made the experience that much better. Be sure to stop here when you visit Sooke.

After hearing such great things from a resident of the area, I just had to stop by the coffee shop on my way out of Sooke after spending the long weekend and Im glad I did. It certainly made my drive to Chemainus alot more enjoyable. We got a regular mocha with extra whip, two apple cheddar muffins and a slice of Chocolate Zuchini loaf. Everything was amazing. The mocha was definitely one of the best if not the best that I’ve had. The cashier was extremely pleasant and we enjoyed a fun chat with another customer while waiting in line to collect our goodies, definitely wish there was one of these in Vancouver.

There is Nothing better than finding someone who knows about coffee, and opens up a shop in a small town to serve the needs of people who care. Owner David Evans has a gem of a place in Sooke, It is a must if you find yourself here. This is a cozy place tucked away around a mini mall, which has been in Sooke for more than 30 years. As I made my way to the store I was greeted by the smell of freshly roasted beans, That’s right David roasts right here in the back of the shop. It’s a warm and inviting place with lots of great things to eat or indulge. I know a thing or two about coffee, and so does David. So let me just say you will not be disappointed ! This is a place where you can sip an Espresso, enjoy the rich Crema, and know that it’s fresh, perfectly roasted, and extracted with precision. The staff are friendly and know there stuff, this is a 5 star, it does not get any better than this. You have a smart phone using GPS and Unilocal should make this easy to find, if not just ask anyone on the street. or if your lucky, follow your nose ! Just go. you will not regret it !

I stopped at Stick in the Mud on the recommendation of a friend of mine who lives just north of Sooke. It was Sunday morning at 9am and I was prepared to find them closed(running on island time) but not only were they open but they had plenty of fresh baked on the premises cookies and muffins! I had a small double latte. As I frequently find, their default small latte is 10 – 12 ounces, almost twice as much milk as I feel a double latte can have and still let one taste the espresso. My latte was 8 ounces and was great, the barista was cheerful, and the oatmeal chocolate chip cookie was perfect. Stick In The Mud is a little hard to find, turn north off of Sooke Road onto Otter Point Road, then almost immediately left on Eustace, it’s around the back side of the building. It is wonderful how the network of quality coffee is spreading throughout Vancouver Island! read the CoffeeCrew Review of Stick in the Mud here:
